Who cares about peak power. CONTINUOUS power and SPL is what matters!

Really a trend I hate. They want me to buy 4 figure products and dont tell me the actual power? Whats next? You buy a car that can do 1 million HP for a millisecond and they dont tell you the real power?

These are a nicer line than the HDs. I had 4 HD1531s, and they were OK, but waaay to heavy for the level of output. I would like to hear these in comparison.

Sorry, didn't mean to be negative. These do look great, but again, the Peak wattage isn't a useful metric.

What's the RMS Power?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, Gordon. Thanks for reaching out! Typically RMS is about 71% of the total power listed for any powered speaker or amplifier. I want to hear RMS not peak wattage!! That’s how I distinguish a great product from someone who’s just pushing crap!! Companies who speak RMS get my business.

Take the peak wattage and cut it by 50 percent and that is typically your RMS wattage...it could differ by brand but that’s a conservative approach

Exactly. All this peak stuff is ridiculous. Remember all those 1 million peak watts amps in the 2000s?

SPL and frequency response is how I shop for PA's. Peak Watts do not impress me if the SPL is 126 and frequency response is 65hz -18khz, not saying these are Mackie's specs but this an example.

They aren’t rcf…. Mackie is partnered with eaw and eaw uses B&C components and I don’t even know if mackie is using drivers from eaw who knows but I highly doubt it’s rcf lol….. they don’t even sound close to rcf tier

Hello, Michael! Jose from Sweetwater, here. Great question! The Mackie DRM series of speakers would be more in competition with the JBL PRX line. They are both great sounding systems overall! I'd love to speak with you more on the details, so feel free to give me a shout at my contact information below. Thanks for the interest! At the same footprint, I’d give a slight nod to the SRX speakers in terms of power output and sound but if we’re talking price point, I feel you get more bang for your buck with the DRM series. I don’t think the SRX series is 40 percent better than DRM but they’re priced like they are. Both are excellent speakers. For solo DJs who need a smaller footprint, I like the DRMs because they’re very portable. 3 or 4 of the 212s or 215s should cover most wedding venues.

@@alfredmayes5005 I do think that the srx is better considering that mackie isn’t really anything special…. They are advertising there so called special dsp which is very average…. And the drivers they use we have no idea what they use…. Weather it could be possible eaw drivers since they are partnered which would be B&C components or if it’s just mackie woofers. To me the srx sound much better and the dsp is a lot better and more flexible, not as user friendly but better in my opinion

@@sweetwater I don’t think mackie intended for this series to compete with the lower class prx… especially when I saw the constant curvature array I feel like they took a long shot to try and put up a fight with the srx, etx and even the kw

I'm tired of companies using Peak wattage as a spec. It's useless. Sweetwater, please have them express the RMS wattage as well as the SPL information when they talk about these things.
@davemccall9594
@davemccall9594 5 жыл бұрын
Wattage in general is a pretty irrelevant spec to most people's usage scenarios. Maximum SPL (along with coverage patterns) is what most people are really wanting to know when they're looking at wattage, anyway... and there's not an obvious way to game Maximum SPL (other than changing the acceptable distortion level). DRM212 maximum SPL is 134dB. DRM215 maximum SPL is 135dB. DRM315 maximum SPL is 137dB! DRM12A maximum SPL is 135dB. That's actually how loud they'll get. Wattage won't translate 1:1 into loudness due to varying efficiency of amps, speaker drivers, and the different ways different speakers will distort. Just look at the fact that the 212 and 215 both have the same wattage rating of an amp, but have different maximum SPLs (not that different, but measurably different just from different woofers and probably differently tweaked DSP). SPL= how much noise does this make? Coverage pattern= where does that noise go?
@Scott__C
@Scott__C 5 жыл бұрын
I was far less articulate, but yes, I believe marketing departments unfortunately push the wattage thing so hard that most think that's what they need to look for. Thanks for mentioning coverage patterns as well. Sweetwater could either push manufacturers in this direction, or flat out talk about this info in the videos.

why are we talking peak and not rms as we all know that peak power is a useless measurement , and is normally a way of making the output sound a lot more than it really is.

Not good enough to beat a srx and etx system maybe it can edge out the kw 153 but who knows. The subs I already know aren’t going to be anything special… but to me the kw will always be a lot more reliable…. Dsp and sound wise the srx would absolutely demolish these things
