I saw Swervedriver in 93 Montreal - they opened for smashing pumpkins- They were sonically so focused - they pulled me into their world - The Pumpkins played a very underwhelming and loose set - Next day I went out and bought Mezcal Head - maybe a top five 90’s album- definitely top ten -

Criminally underrated band. Incredible live performance. I got the Reel to Real Promo EP from a friend who went to an industry event back in 91 and it just blew me away. Adam Franklin is a genius.

I heard ‘Son of Mustang Ford’ on the radio in early 92 and had to get a copy. I don’t think there’s a single bad song on the album. This bands sound is genius. I understand how not everyone gets shoegaze, but I think it’s beautiful. I think Hendrix would have loved it. Never got to see them live at the time, so I’m stoked to find this. Thank you, poster (Scottish Tee Vee) and thank you KZbin for keeping stuff like this alive.

Very similar to my experience. I heard Rave Down on the radio about that same time and bought the cd. I've been a fan ever since. But unfortunately I also never saw them live. Should have tried harder because I know they toured near my area in the mid 90s.

Raise is so beautiful. ❤️ I only discovered it 2 years ago as a Spotify recommendation. Recently my local bookstore had a vinyl of it on a random display shelf. 🤩 Couldn't miss that opportunity. Mezcal Head is also wonderful imo.

I'm one of the ever increasing number of kids in the 90s who discovered this band on Road Rash and fell in love. I'm sad I didn't discover them more organically, but if this is the only cliche thing I've done in my life I'll take it.

I bought Road Rash in 1998, and I think it came out in 1996. Definitely saw my uncle play it first though, and I was hooked. So yeah, organically found at the right(ish?) time period.

I saw them support Curve in manchester SU late 93. I'd never heard of them before, but found myself right up against the barrier in front of Adam. The crush was so much that the barrier got bent to be the shape of the stage, but sonically they put on such an intense show, it was incredible! Lifelong fan since then.

Adam Franklin plays incredibly difficult guitar parts while soloing. Most guys that do vox typically have easier guitar duties but he's doing arpeggios and all kinds of wild stuff while he's playing. I think it's less obvious because their music isn't "flashy" but it's so intricate.

Cool finally seeing Swervedriver play, and from 1993 nonetheless! I discovered them while at the Off Ramp (a grunge venue with a pub in back) in Seattle, and after a show they had the Mezcal Head CD playing on their soundsystem. I don't remember which songs were playing (Duel, Blowin' Cool, or Harry & Maggie? not sure) but I bought the CD. Over here Stateside they weren't really big, didn't get a lot of airplay, more of a word of mouth thing. But it's great seeing what the buzz was really all about.

Glad you found and enjoyed this video. You were lucky to have seen them.

@@ScottishTeeVee Just to clarify, I'd unfortunately never seen them actually live in person. It was a local band that had been playing at the Off Ramp, and when I hung around the pub afterwards the bartender had the Mezcal Head CD playing over the bar's sound system, and I asked him who the band on the CD were, and he told me about Swervedriver. That's why it's so cool to see a vid like this. It's enough like being there. Thanks again for posting the video.

They did tour the States with the Pumpkins and I think Soundgarden. So they gained a lot of US fans that way. I had heard them in Britain from their first album but later after returning to the US I saw the video for Duel on MTV (120 Minutes), and i was like, ‘okay this is unbelievable time to buy the albums.’

Thanks for watching and commenting, so glad you enjoyed this video. Yes it was recorded on standard VHS. But with VHS, if you used a more expensive VCR, you got a better quality recording and if you used good quality tape at SP, then once again you got a slightly better quality of recording.
