What a joy it is to see them behaving as normal as possible. I wonder what the discussion in the nest was about. To have their season come to such an abrupt end is heartbreaking for us as observers, but their eagle instincts would be kicking in…. Whether to try for another clutch, or wait until next year. I am so glad to see that they are still interested in the nest and bonding. ❤️🦅🦅🇦🇺

I saw them both live on the cams yesterday and it was wonderful to see them. They both spent time above the nest - M15 would look down and then up to search the sky, and F23 spent time staring at the nest and looking more towards the ground and at the people on the ground. Both seemed to be looking for the eaglets. Maybe since they watched E24 taken from the nest and then they watched E25 be taken from the ground, they are waiting for them to be returned to the nest? M certainly has more experience with loss but this is F23's first time. 🙏❤️ to them both they remain healthy and strong! Thank you, Lady Hawk!

Hello Linda I think that they are acting differently because both M15 & F23 are infected with the HPAI virus and have not felt good - especially at the time that E24 & E25 passed away. We can't compare the two situations because they are totally different.

Hi Heimargis CROW made a statement about the virus and the nest "While it is likely that avian influenza virus is present in the nest following the deaths of E24 and E25, it is unknown exactly how long the virus will remain active and infectious there. Avian influenza virus can survive in warm environments for a period of hours to days to weeks depending on the surface material, temperature, and humidity conditions, and may also be impacted by factors such as weather and exposure to UV radiation from the sun." "Disinfection of the nest would be challenging due to the high presence of organic matter (feathers, feces, dirt, etc.) in the nest and the unknown safety of disinfectants in regards to bald eagles (including bald eaglets and eggs); however, this would only be done at the jurisdiction of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) as it is otherwise illegal to tamper with, disturb, or remove a bald eagle nest. Furthermore, the nest itself is certainly not the only source of avian influenza in the area, and it would be impossible to fully prevent the adults from encountering the virus again elsewhere."

That is totally normal to feel that way! I have to be very careful to not let my grief get out of control too. I got really sick the morning after E25 passed and am still not feeling well. I think the stress and emotion of what happened knocked out my immune system and I caught whatever was floating around out there.
