No. That guys are not a real pros. They have no clue how to "dress the post" properly. Professionals take each tension band and brace band and bend them hard to make "egg shaped". Then ONE man SNAP them on to the terminal post and guess what? They stay on the post right on the place you want them to. Eggshaped bands have the gap between holes as wide as you make them and inner end very tight on the post but outer end -- flexible, so you stick the bolt in and push outer end of the band with the bolt in it to catch a nut. ONE MAN operation! It's hard to visualise but looks like magic when you see the oldtimer does it.

@@jakebrown9829 thank you for reading! Like I said, it's very hard to visualise, even more! Some guys keep staring at the foreman demonstrating it several times and still can't repeat! I so young guys were ready to cry! So, I decided to make a video with pictures and with more details. Now I hope it can be helpful. The video is the last one at my channel. Welcome.

I'm a dirt work contractor who was just awarded a contract to remove various types of fencing along a 40 mile stretch of natural gas pipeline right-of-way in preparation for pipe replacement. After the pipeliners move through and we've completed our dirt work, we will be required to re-install new replacement fencing anywhere it was removed. This is something my crew and I have never done. I'm well aware that I don't know what I don't know about fencing but I know it's a lot. After searching KZbin for days in an effort to become semi-competent in what we're going to encounter, I came across your video. EXACTLY what I was looking for! Unlike 99% of the fencing vidoes I've watched, yours actually shows and explains the tiny details that will make or break a quality build. I know it's only the smallest tip of the iceberg but it's a great start. Please keep them coming. Thank you.

Thanks for making these videos. You really helped me out as I have been tasked at work with resurrecting an old fence which has been laying flat for 20+ years due to trucks backing into it. I'm talking bent/broken posts and trees have literally grown through the fabric!

This is a Master Class on how to do it! This project is much bigger than repairing my HOA's tennis court fencing with wind screens (blinds), which are sun fabric (plastic) over the chain link to prevent off court distractions. Thank you for the recommendation on good tools. Learned from my uncle Leonard, long ago, "Buy a good tool & you will never be sorry!" I think I would like to get on a fencing crew with a journeyman who will work my "Azz" off to learn properly how it is properly done!

Looks good, I predict all my fittings on post b4 framing & streching, it's really nice when the tensionbands are already in place on the entire job. It just takes a quick grip squish with the palm of ur hand and the tension band will stay in place

We built a small chicken pen a couple of years ago at my daughters house. I had shown my grandson how to stitch and unstitch chain link a few years before when we tore out an old dog pen. We were using several short rolls of 6’ fabric from the dog pen project. So, I threw down a couple of rolls in the driveway, handed him the pliers and asked if he wanted to stitch them. He said sure. Then I went to get water. When I came back I rounded the corner and stopped. There he was screwing in a stitch between two rolls of wire… his dad was watching him with his mouth wide open… he had zero experience with chain link and his 14 year old son was giving him a lesson. One he never expected to learn from a person he thought had nothing to teach him! Fencing can build character… and teach lessons too!

The fence hog works great as long as you can get to the outside of the fence. Of course I didn;t have a fancy tracked Bobcat but an 863 that loved to get stuck in the mud. For some reason I always twist the top of my splices, but I am usually doing it alone I don't have a good looking helper like you.

Fencehogs are the only way to fly. They can also make it easier to roll out wire if you can’t drive down the fence line.
@mattsergel57043 жыл бұрын
We call it dressing the wire, or combing the wire, when finessing it to look good. I usually take my fence pliers before the chain link is to tight and I dressed it down the line.

Very informative, thank you. We are trying to install a 5ft vinyl coated fence in the backyard that we got from Menards and the chain feels too flexible, we tried stretching it but some parts towards the top do not seem to be stretching, we tried the same method and used a stretcher with tension bar and a ratchet strap. Any suggestions on what could be going wrong? The middle part stretches fine but it doesn’t seem to stretch well at the top and bottom.

Great video's...Noticed your truss rod tightener is at the line post and not at the bottom of the terminal post. Is that on purpose? We use combo rail ends and slip the tension rod into the brace rail and tightener at the bottom. Just curious.
@SWiFence2 жыл бұрын
Just like skinning a cat there’s more than one way. Yes you can use the combo railing and I have the truss rod tightener at the bottom of the terminal post. What we do is use it to haul rail and then have the truss rod tightener at the middle point of the line post. Biggest thing here is you don’t have to bend down to tighten it and it’s less likely to get Covered up with any sort of silt.

Do you add any middle railings all the way down for a 10ft tall fence or is it built just like this 6'ft? how long of a run do you go without putting a terminal post on a straight run?

What's the formula for when or when not to include a truss rod and brace? From what I've ever seen, it's almost as if it's a preference only.

No middle or top bars though so only 2inch metal posts with strainers at corners...keen to learn!

Ok, I've got a question... My wife and I decided that 6ft ta chairs link fence was going to block our view. So I cut the posts shorter and framed it. Now, can I just cut the bottom 12 inches off the 6ft fabric I have?
@SWiFence2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but cut it at the right spot so you can re-knuckle the ends back together.

Looks like that is getting barbed wire at the top. I thought it was SWI’s policy to put the twist at the bottom for extra security at the bottom since there is barbed wire across the top of the fence.

You guys are wrong with this video! Just as tie wires correspond with tension bands on line posts. hog rings correspond with toprail ties. 9 diamonds? 7 is the max for me. Also I can put a twist on top when I weave two rolls of 9 gauge together. But I have been installing fence since you folk were just infants though. 35+ years in the business. Basically the only machine I had in my years as an installer was an auger. Still getting it done today.

I’ve noticed in the chain link videos you guys don’t cut the top rail like 6” to 1’ off the line top. You can see the sag in the rail at the point where your rail joins in the sleeve. Why don’t you guys do that ? It would look a lot better and have no weak point. Thx for all the content tho love what you guys put out and I’ve learned a few things in a short time watching !!
