My mum is from Enniscorthy. I sing this for her every year and she cries. We may leave our homeland but i suspect our homeland never leaves our hearts. Genii loci. Blessed Christmas and peace to all.

I've listened to this all week and I love it. The lead vocals are so sharp clear and precise , it's rare to hear such singing. And the music is spot on. Alison Krause ain't got nothing on you girls. Loved it loved it.

Because it's difficult to learn and to sing. I did because I was born in Enniscorthy, and to be honest, I like that it's not widely piped into supermarkets everywhere. The versions out there are mostly souped up to make them sound more acceptable, by making all sorts of "arrangements", but ornaments are needed on this song like plastic chili peppers on a Christmas tree. The Yoyoma version is probably the best I've seen, because they did the least damage to it. This one isn't too bad

I've loved this carol for years; I think I first heard it by The Voice Squad, which has remained my favourite, probably because I sing mostly unaccompanied. Having listened to various other versions this morning, I think that I have a new favourite! In this key, it's great on the fiddle, with lots of scope for harmonies. Merry Christmas. Martin D'Arcy

Good people all, this Christmas time Consider well and bear in mind What our good God for us has done In sending his beloved son With Mary holy we should pray To God with love this Christmas Day In Bethlehem upon that morn There was a blessed Messiah born Near Bethlehem did shepherds keep Their flocks of lambs and feeding sheep To whom God's angels did appear Which put the shepherds in great fear 'Prepare and go, ' the angels said 'To Bethlehem, be not afraid For there you'll find, this happy morn A princely babe, sweet Jesus born With thankful heart and joyful mind The shepherds went, this babe to find And as God's angel had foretold They did our saviour Christ behold Within a manger he was laid And by his side the virgin maid Attending on the Lord of life Who came on earth to end all strife Good people all, this Christmas time Consider well and bear in mind What our good God for us has done In sending his beloved Son With Mary holy we should pray To God with love this Christmas day In Bethlehem upon that morn There was a blessed Messiah born

Beautiful! Here are Easter lyrics to go with the tune. Jesus on the Heights On Tabor shone a heav'nly light when love the law and prophet met above the Armageddon plain and people deep in darkness kept Then he descended in God’s plan though sinless unlike other men to be in our forsaken plight death tested on Moriah’s height Laid in a tomb he would disown when angels rolled away the stone his work complete took sabbath rest before he rose to greet the blest Seen first by women at the tomb apostles in the upper room disciples on the Emmaus road and hundreds more we have been told To Olivet he came one day and told his friends to wait and pray then unto heav'n was lifted up to set the place where we shall sup Nine days in the upper room they prayed and on the tenth the Spirit came rising wind falling tongues of fire true life abiding soul's desire Divine word speaking babel cure claim us cleanse us take us as yours come to dwell within our hearts and from us may you never part

not bad but a little sad....it misses that major 3rd on the first chord of the verse
@sevenriversvascular7283 жыл бұрын
Well balanced, clear
@mikefinucane668718 күн бұрын
It's supposed to be sad. I learned this in Enniscorthy as a child, and it's a - sad isn't the right word - spare, austere song. It's not supposed to be Chipmunks do xmas. Think dark winter days, frost, snow, walking home, or checking on the cattle. It's really just a melody, no harmony, but the harmony should respect the mode (early music tonality). AI says: "The Enniscorthy Carol, also known as "The Wexford Carol," is typically considered to be in the Mixolydian mode. This mode gives the carol its characteristic slightly melancholic or "unfinished" sound due to the use of a minor seventh scale degree within an otherwise major scale. "
@bellinghammond17 күн бұрын
@@mikefinucane6687 But consider the subject matter....The major also provides contrast for the minor shift into "with Mary holy...". There's a happy medium between the "Chipmunks" and this inferior version of "Wexford". Something more like this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/goi5ineBp8eUaNUsi=niD0xhwRUoPZwHKA
