I liked Corporal Capeman. He's never a terrible character. He appears in the episodes; The Capeman Cometh, Crashcourse in Crime, Gadget's Gadgets, Gadget in Minimadness, The Incredible Shrinking Gadget, Gadget Meets the Grappler, Focus on Gadget, M.A.D. in the Moon, and Gadget and the Red Rose.

This episode was released on VHS by DIC/Buena Vista Home Video in 1993, and again as part of Inspector Gadget: Gadget's Greatest Gadgets on VHS by DIC Toon-Time Video/Buena Vista Home Video in 2000.

Hope I don't upset anyone here, but I think Capeman's rivalry with Brain made a bit sense since he first kicked him on his bike for no good reason, and then he stole his cape, even if it was just meant to get Capeman to go to the roof with him. And Brain might have done other things to upset Capeman in other episodes, but I don't know what else might have happened with them since I didn't see all the episodes Capeman appeared in. At least Capeman was not only funny, but he also allowed Gadget to be a mentor figure, even if not a good one. Wish if he was to ever make a comeback, he can still be a funny guy and have a personality that people can like, but doesn't stray too far away from his original portrayal.

One last ting I forgot to mention that I liked about this episode, is how Brain is making a fool of the Ninja and gets him to slip and trip into the shower in the bathroom since I thought he was actually funny doing that to the Ninja. But I thought it as even funnier that the gadgets in Gadget's house were the ones that defeated the Ninja in the end, and in a funny way. Glad they decided to make the episode include all that here.

I always wondered why people hated Capey so much. He wasn't on the show very long, and it was fun to see Uncle Gadget acting in a mentor role(even if he really wasn't the best mentor).

The Jim Carrey tidbit has nothing to do with Canada. The second season of the series had all its pre- and post-production done at DiC's studio in the United States (unlike Season 1, which was produced by Nelvana in Canada as work-for-hire for DiC). Jim Carrey auditioned for the voice of Capeman in Los Angeles.

@@Mesterius1 I think at least some of the post-production for the second season was also done in Japan, by DiC's satellite studio there. I saw some Japanese-looking names credited as editors, along with all those anime-esque sound effects (contrasting greatly with the sound effects int he first season), and how the film-to-videotape transfer looks pretty similar to animes of the era. The same thing also applies to the second season of "Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats," "Dennis the Menace," the "Care Bears" episodes DiC produced, and the later episodes of "Rainbow Brite." (The early episodes of that had pre post-production done in Canada.)

Hard to believe that Frank Welker, who voices innocent, lovable, sweet, cuddly, and caring Brain also voices the evil, destructable Dr. Claw. Welker also voices Mad Cat, too. He also voices the blue cat, Furrball, from Tiny Toon Adventures.

To be honest i don't mind Capeman I grew up with the 2nd Season of Inspector Gadget when I was a Child and in all honesty I think the 2nd Season's better.

yeah well considering that the first season had the same stuff in 65 episodes (with the occasional Penny capture) I guess they wanted to do something new, yes Capeman was unnecessary (but don't worry his voice actor went on to play a more competent Super Hero) I did like how they used the same criminal in three straight episodes, I mean that was creative at least. so I'm not totally defending the second season

The budgets were also lower for the second season. I know DiC had their own satellite studio in Japan by this time, which did the animation and post-production work (hence the completely different sound effects from the first season, which had post-production work done in Canada by Nelvana). The same thing applied to the second season of "Heathcliff."

wileyk209zback: More importantly, of course, the first season also had all its PRE-production work done at the Nelvana studio in Canada. This included the actual writing of the stories/scripts, the storyboarding, the voice work etc. The only exceptions regarding the voice actors were Don Adams and Frank Welker, who both lived in the United States and recorded their lines in Los Angeles. Aside from that, all the Season 1 voices were recorded at Nelvana in Canada. And of course, the post production and final editing of the season 1 eps was also done at Nelvana.

No, just bad music editing. There are tons of other, more fitting compositions by Shuki Levy that the music editors could have used in that scene instead of "Gadget with the Incas" - but they still ended up with "Gadget with the Incas", which does not fit at all. It was a sloppy and careless choice of music editing.
