I like how the fake chest is actually used for something here. Instead of the fake chest being under the real front of the car, kinda negating it's purpose entirely, it actually uses the inclusion of the fake chest to make the transformation backwards to what you would expect, with the chest at the rear of the car and the feet at the front. Brilliant!

Yes. With the shifting back and forth of camera angles of which car part being recorded, it's easy to be fooled. The chest piece (including headlights) was just an illusion that we would think that it came from the front part of the car.

Actually it's worse. There's absolutely no illusion that the front becomes the chest, you can always tell it's fake. It especially bad for stop motion animation, and making a screen accurate transformation, because there's no way to make the center of the chest look like it becomes the hood, and the headlights move to their position in vehicle mode. One guy managed to copy a transformation from the movie using this, but it's not really fair because the transformation was done entirely in one frame with a shit tonne of motion blur, also like the movie. And the thing about that is you're able to do exactly that with the 3A figure, making owning this figure pointless.

I love how the transformation sequence is very reminiscent of the g1 model. Although not accurate to the movie, is still a nice touch on the engineers part. Kudos to them for that nice added detail!

I am really astonished. Not only at how smart the engineering is, but that he actually looks fun to transform! I didn't see any parts where you have to squeeze and force parts past each other. That's the biggest reason I said no to Zeta's and Transform Element's Bumblebees.

Next to no vehicle parts, most of the ones being there being altered into different shapes, making a figure design have to do a bunch of bullshit instead of using the actual vehicle parts; and the complete lack of plot or sanity? Not really. This bumblebee was the only decent design in the movie. even then, his chest is too obviously deformed (hence the faux chest in this toy). Optimus looks like a lazy g1/IDW mashup with random parts of his body ripped open to expose his innards for no logical reason. Then there’s dropkick and shatter. They have to do some physics-defying size shifting to get from a coupe to a jet/helicopter. And then all the hideous cybertron designs in the prologue that were clearly rushed into production at the 11th hour looking like video game cut scenes (some almost directly ripped off from Fall of Cybertron). Those were fine in the 80s when it was a cartoon aimed at 8 to 10 year olds. But Bayformers at least made a decent attempt at trying to satisfy real world design and aesthetics while looking alien and dynamic. And they were new and unique instead of being a sad ripoff of 40 year old designs.

I have been waiting on this figure for FAR too long. I've ignored all other options because I believed that this was the superior choice for me. I still believe that, because *hot DAMN do I love this thing!* Granted, this figure doesn't exceed my expectations, but what it is as a whole is still great. Some of the proportions are a little odd, the faux chest plates are a little unfortunate, and how the Stinger Blaster works is not how I would've liked, but at this point I'll take what I can get. Other than that, I am quite satisfied with how this turned out.

I think the main problem of this is the hinges for transformation in Car mode is too visible that it looks off. No transformable figure can completely hide that, but most are barely visible when looked from a few meters a way. This one's still stands out.

Yeah, but fewer hinges means larger vehicle pieces, which then causes issues for robot mode. I’d take 1000 obvious tiny vehicle panels over a few slightly less obvious panels any day, if it meant that the robot mode was as accurate as possible. And for me, this robot mode is impeccable, so the vehicle panels are a worthy sacrifice.

The knee bend looks a little weird and the forearms look a little long in certain poses but overall this is the Masterpiece Bumblebee figure I wish I had. Good looking alt mode despite panel lines, very clean and posable robot mode. Also those windows on his back look like they can flare out like little wings. A shame it wasn't posed that way.
