I used the 1100 box and diff with a 1293cc engine I built, when I was 17, for my mini 1100 special, I had lumpy cam, BVH, LCB with 2 3/4 pipe, jan speed back box from an RS2000, 38 dgas from a 3.0l capri on water cooled inlet manifold, few other mods as well and that did 108mph at 8000 rpm...It made 94hp at south coast RR, which was good in 1989....now I drive a van🙁

Way back, in my 1962 Mini, I used a 1098 engine, 12G295 head, Duplex Timing gears, single 1 1/2" SU, 3.44 diff on 10" wheels. It would easily pull in excess of 6000 RPM in top gear. 6000 RPM is about 100 MPH. I still have the car, it now has a fairly standard 1275 in it, not as fast as the 1098 was. The 1098 engine was in the car for several decades. It's in the garage now, still in good condition.

That thing is a wepon. Over 40 yrs ago a friend of mine over who had a worked mini, webber carb, big exhaust n straight cut box. A noisy rugged ride but great when it came to dragging off the likes of 3.8 Jags

I doubt it, but the MG1100 engine is a great road engine, plenty of low down torque. I had a Vanden Plas 1300, could top 100 MPH easily, Mini Rolls Royce, at least that's what an AA man told me when I ran out of petrol!

@@Radfordperson totally correct…the ordinary long stroke 1098 motor is terrific…you never have to change gear ever again!!

@@Radfordperson I just threw one in my 850 and kept all the same carb/exhaust/ancilliaries...'no substitute for CCs. 30 years later I was racing with and against Swifty in classic Mini racing
