It increases fps and causes your pc to consume more power. Depending on the type of card, one will get good airflow and run cool, while the other cards will receive limited airflow and run hot.

1 680 > 1 7970 but 1 680 < xfire 7970's but what it sounds like is he wanted to run 4 monitors and 7970's can't do that like 1 680 can .... definatly sli the 680's and definatly look into a windows home server for mass storage, it makes file transfers much faster and easier with multiple computers. i would suggest a raid 5 or raid 6 setup for a home server, ofcourse choose whatever suits yours needs best. oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWIFTY!!!!!

Well, both cards have clumbsy drivers atm, so that will improve it for both of them. My experience is that Nvidia provides the better experience, picture quality, stability ect - but thats just me, I have had a wide range of ATI cards, but I always returned to Nvidia, just feels more stable for me. I cant wait to see what kepler 110 can do, Im sure it will be a close call with the 690 and the 7990, but im also 99% sure that Nvidia will top most tests

the motherboard brand doesnt have anything to do with crossfire/sli, if they have more than one slot for a graphics card you can use either setup.

the GTX 590 is still a little faster due to the fact that it is a duel Gpu card, also the gtx 680 was suppose to be the gtx 660 ti originally so nvidia are storing their strongest cards for laters since ati's 7970 was weak.

It think it was Epic games who showed off the next Unreal Engine and they said they got about the same performance as 3 580's when they optimized the 680 like crazy.

I think the main reason he switched out cards is because for one it doesn't heat up as much as two, Jason needed new cards, and really 60 fps a second is the max monitors can handle... Most monitor screens run at only 60hz but you can get some that run all the way to 120 but the human eye doesn't really spot much of a difference after 60fps...

A single 7970 with it's 3gb VRAM will outperform the 2gb 680 in this scenario, in a normal scenario (1080p, single monitor) the 680 would edge the 7970, but the extra 1gb really helps when you're pushing that many pixels.

Its release drivers, when the newer drives get released, it will get better with SLI, it was the same god damn deal with 7970 at the first fail driver.

Another thing I notice is that when I have the ati settings on normal and not performance mode it drops down to 60fps. Conclusion is that WoW is a very heavy cpu performance game, Also forcing the g-card to line out qualities the game is not really made to handle effectavly, its best to set you're G-card to performance mode.

How to get higher fps in wow: I don't know if you have done this already swifty, but if you want higher fps, just turn off vertical sync, and in advanced settings turn off max foreground/background FPS, and disable triple buffering and input lag. I do this and run wow on ultra with aprox. 120FPS on my ATI Radeon HD 5800series.

7990 isn't out yet, and if it was the 7990 would be quite a lot faster than the 680. Or did you mean 7970 or 680? Generally the 680 is a tiny bit better but they're both very similar.
