Hi Matt, enjoyed this 2nd swim jig video! I was really hooked on your 1st video on the California Swim Jig, so I subscribed! You probably don't remember me, but my son and I came up to speak with you at the 2016 Sacramento Fisherman' s Exposition after your presentation on "How to Catch The Biggest Bass in The Lake!" I mentioned, "I had caught more larger bass in one year, since switching to the California Swim Jig, than I had caught in all my years of fishing. Lots of 4-7lbs bass, one 8lber, still waiting on my double digit fish! I'm using a Dobyns 765 Flip with 65lb braid on my Curado 300E! Thank you so much for the informative videos and taking the time to speak with me!!! You are awesome!

I live in upstate South Carolina, so im surrounded by herring/threadfin shad lakes. Thanks for the tips! I will definitely put the swim jig to the test this fall. Y'all should to take a trip east and come get on the blue back herring bite. When the fish get keyed on herring it is an absolute blast! They will start schooling literally 2 feet from the boat chasing the herring. There are days when you can go out and catch 100+ fish basically anyway you want to catch them. Of course my favorite way to catch them is throwing a topwater plug. Once again great video and thanks for the tips! Hope you guys decide to take a trip east.

Best swim jig video I've seen anywhere. I love swim jigs, but I didn't know half of this. The only problem I have with swim jigs is the same problem I have with many baits. I love ultralight fishing. Ultralight rods, and ultralight line. I love the challenge of catching big fish with very light tackle and line. But this sometimes makes throwing various baits as much a challenge as landing the fish. By "ultralight", I mean a rod designed to throw six pound test, or lighter. I sometimes throw two pound test, sometimes four, and sometimes six, never anything heavier when I'm fishing this way. With the right rod, I can still throw a 3/8 swim jig, but I have to be careful no to overcast it. A big Californian swim jig is really out of the question. Anyway, it's an area I'm still experimenting with, and I'm loving it, but it is a challenge. This video helped out a bunch. Thanks much.

I am a longtime jig pourer and tyer. I love to watch anything to do with jigs. Leaving my old home in Arizona for health resons and moving back to my hometown in Pa. I left the big fish that I had become accustomed to. Now I am a kayak fisherman hitting small mouth rivers. Being able to kayak got me back outdoors. With having two below the knee prosthetic legs. Not being able to walk the banks anymore got me into kayaking. My Native Ultimate 12 is serving me well. Now for the swim jigs. I have tons that I made while learning to walk again. The 1/4 oz. size is my goto. Your video on explaining the correct trailers was priceless to me. Thank you for your expertise.

Caught my first two bass on a swim jig today! Used a 3/8oz Dirty Jigs Swim Jig with a Keitech Swing Impact Fat 4.3. It was the best lure today on a shallow weedy lake. Fished for bass from a float tube for the first time and loved it! Also caught my first bass on a 7" senko. All 3 bass were small (between 1 and 2lbs), but nice bass for this lake. Lately this lake is getting a lot of pressure, with all the people keeping all the bass they catch... There's not many big bass in this lake. I caught those bass in the middle of the lake. That's the place were most bigger bass are now, because this lake only has people fishing from the bank. The bass are in weeds around the deepest area. Caught a bass almost 5lbs from this lake on a S-Waver last year, but this year, in the last 2 months haven't caught anything over 1lb. Today caught 3... Thanks for your tips Matt and Tim! Your tips are working for me!

Best advice here is the retrieve. On any decent swim jig backed with a Keitech, steady moderate retrieve is all that's needed. Matt/Tim, it might be worth touching on when to set the hook. I've found that waiting until the fish loads it up helps. Thoughts?
@tacticalbassin8 жыл бұрын
I actually crack them immediately but I'm running braid, that might be the difference? How about you? -Matt
@simplecircuit8 жыл бұрын
i usually feel a couple bites from behind then wait for the fish to grab it and turn and then set the hook. i know zona preaches the same thing. so many times, i feel the fish tracking and bumping at the swim jig and then finally committing. i'm using 15lb fluoro on a steez mh rod with a 6.3 steez reel. i find that if i set the hook the first tap or two i feel, i end up with no trailer, and no fish. could be a mid-south thing.

Love the video! Just wondering if you have tried the Jackall rhythm wave as a trailer?

I played with one pack but really didn't get enough time to figure out its niche.

Hey I live in the Midwest and the fish smash a bluegill colored lethal weapon swim jig with a baby paca craw on the back. I'm looking into other jigs because I don't like some of the features of the lethal weapon. Also starting to throw more swimbaits. Question...have you tried the optimum double diamond as a trailer I like the kietech like you do but I'm gonna try the double diamond and see how I like it. I think it will have more body roll.
