I love this watch. All the tracking things: approximations are good enough for me. Even when I was a hyper-fit serious fitness freak, all that stuff seemed like ... gadgety frivolity to me. The ruggedness, notifications, and battery were of primary importance to me. General fitness tracking was secondary. And like I said, approximate accuracy is more than enough. I need to see trends. That's it. Nice review.

Great review. I was actually coming here to try and get more information on how to use the triathlon tracking. The firmware has changed with this watch since this video, so it may be worth giving another test if you still have it. It can connect to an external heart rate monitor now. I have not tested with open water swims, but the GPS works great on my runs and biking. It does fairly well with pool swimming. I'm not a strong swimmer (I stuggle to do 600 meters), but it does a decent job with tracking distance/laps with my short swins. You can also set up custom training templates for the workouts which is pretty cool. I have used that feature for swimming and running. It's also awesome to ge able to download a map (such as a hiking trail) onto the watch and use GPS with the map.

Great review. I’m a regular runner and I swim once a week. Perfect watch. If you’re a data/chart/map accuracy freak or you are a PRO, go for Garmin or Polar high-end. If not, You’ll love it. I love watches in general, especially automatic ones, I refused to use smart watches for everyday until I found this one. It’s comfortable and battery life is excellent if you don’t live on the GPS.

100% agree. It's a solid option. Is it the most accurate? No probably not but it'll get the job done and the battery life is much longer than a lot of the standard smart watches on the market. Thanks Jose!!!

Good review Matt. It looks like it could nicely disrupt the budget end of the market (if indeed there is such a thing). For me though, the lack of connectivity to external sensors probably would be the deal breaker. Knowing this - and if this was my budget - I may be inclined to look for a used Garmin - something like a used 745. It will be interesting to see how this watch develops though.

I think... You can enjoy the functions of these watches without looking at sports goals, sleep, Body Mass Index, answering calls etc etc... THE REST OF THE FEATURES ARE GREAT... 🤛🏼⌚️💨 In my case, I give it a different use and maybe it's a topic for another type of video... * I use it in DRIVING mode when I'm in my car and although I don't do sports, the app amuses me to see the map and/or convert them into route files, see distances traveled to calculate fuel consumption and I can mark places on the GPS . * I see the weather, wind, humidity, temperature, UV rays, the current moon, anticipate 15min before sunrise/sunset and if I'm in a clear place I could prepare you to see it. * When I go to a building I see the different heights or when I use the elevator, I go up/down stairs. * With the compass I can see where the structures, statues, bridges are oriented. * I use the calculator, the birthday calendar, the kilos/pounds-meters/inches converter. * The timer/countdown is useful to me when I am cooking or grilling without fearing intense heat. * Someday you would like to go snorkeling and this watch will be ready for that; Oh! For fear of losing it, I would not change the strap to withstand extreme use... What I want to say is that in your day to day you will have access to curious data on this type of watch and I will surely discover more useful things...

Good question actually. You can set the a watchface for the 'non-raise to wake' view. I made mine in this video show the time in that modern font. I actually like the way it looks. These watch faces don't use a ton of battery (or update the screen with seconds) and therefor the watch does ok on battery life. Thanks for checking this one out Tomy Boy!

I'm mad this doesn't look anything like a dinosaur.... I LIKE THE PRICE! The arm view from under water to on the bike was GOLD (really well thought out and executed) This isn't a dig at triathletes, but are they super interested i the dimensions of watches? I only ask because I have no metric for understanding what 47mm looks like on a wrist (but I could also just be an idiot) OHHHH, I saw "stress" I'm keen to hear more. "Actually not that bad" golden review! Lol "maybe"....Very funny. $200 watch and two weeks of battery? That's pretty good! I'm working on Trustbusting type stuff for the progressive era in US History. If you had to guess market share in the fitness watch world, what do you think it would be? (this is really interesting to me- I'm most curious) I hope someone says "Kit, extremely impressive for the price" about me one day! What do you think about the name? Amazing Trex? GOLD (but why are there are no dinosaurs in the marketing material!!?!?!?!? Oh man, I feel horrible about Evan and David, have they returned to live up in the PNW? 100% more dinosaurs needed in all marketing material 🦖 But yes, the price is right. 👌. I'm really disappointed with mine. The watch faces are very hard to see in sunlight. You can barely see the minute and second hands; the smaller dials are impossible to see, much less read. That said, if you are in workout mode, you can see your KPIs because there is enough contrast. On a 25-mile ride, the GPS told me I went 1 more mile than my old Apple Watch and bike computer. 4% might not seem like a big deal, but it is when you're training. I might return mine, all the reviewers said the brightness on the display was incredible. Is mine defective? It was brand new.

Maybe those reviews are comparing it to a non AMOLED display? 🤷🏻‍♂️ What would you try next if you return this one? It’s such a big jump in price to go to a Garmin but I’m working on a review of the 965 and it’s a nice option. The GPS is very accurate.

The impression I had while using Amazfit products is that they actually are not sportswatches, at least for someone who is mildly interested in accurate and trustworthy data. Those gaps that Matt mentioned are there since other watches for at least 5 years now (specially GPS and HR related inaccuracies), and changing that is simply not in their business plan.

Why are you reviewing a watch that you haven’t properly used. You mention you don’t know how to put it in night mode or at least didn’t bother to figure it out. Which is very simple. You also don’t know how well the sleep tracking works, why not? Then please don’t review the watch. Then you said “ I haven’t explored the watch that much (2:59) Come on ! Why are you even reviewing this watch ?
@mlegrand
@mlegrand Жыл бұрын
I don’t know that I ever called it a review but I’ll touch on a few of your questions here. The night mode thing is still something I find annoying. I use the quick menu to put it in sleep mode but also use theater mode to dim the screen and I still find the AMOLED screen can be annoying at night. Sleep tracking accuracy is hard to determine because there isn’t a gold standard for tracking sleep stages accurately. It’s just hard for consumers products to do in a range above about 60% accuracy. Apple and Fitbit seem to do a decent job. But there’s a lot of features on all these different watches. Lots I haven’t explored which is why I mention it in this video. Why did I make the video? I enjoy the process and paid for the watch so I figured I’d talk about a few parts of my experience owning it. If you spend a few hours making a video for us, let me know. I’d love to check it out. I’ll post a positive comment because it’d be good to hear your opinion and I know making a free video for others isn’t easy.
