Great video! I too have always admired the pool since visiting with my family in 1978. It was fascinating to follow the restoration project on it also!

Thank you so much for stopping by, yes, this pool in particular is a very special pool. I doubt there are many pools like this in the world, but California does have a big swimming culture.

Sad to think the folks who jumped in a got right back out took tickets away from those members of the public who would've loved to have had a good swim in one or both of those pools. I hope they do more of this sort of fund raising - to give others a chance to enjoy those gorgeous surroundings as they were meant to be enjoyed.

Because i was asked to bring my vintage Cadillac limousine up to the hill for historic file photos, i was invite To come swimming as well as attend staff bar-b-ques. It was great to swim in that pool, especially the first couple of times but when I would arrive and it was foggy, the water was freezing, the allure quickly faded!! Fortunately, with my purchasing other automobiles over the years, i have shared my transportation for guests of the castle, SLO county film festival driving Drew Carey from Hearst’s private landing strip, Sir Richard Taylor (who received the King Vidor award) and charming wife and even driving Steve and Barbara Hearst for a thank you dinner in the refectory in thanks for their support of the “Friends of Hearst Castle”. We are fortunate to have the castle so close by and a tour now and then reminds me of that privilege! The “Chief” once said if he could be anywhere in the world, it would be in San Simeon on Camp Hill....as Hearst told his architect, Julia Morgan: “ I want to build a little something there”!!!!

What exact process did you do from start to finish to accomplish this?
@pedrozatravel Жыл бұрын
Thank you for visiting, it was pretty easy. Like I said in the video I became a member of the Friends of Hearst Castle. This is an official club of Hearst Castle that is dedicated to help preserving all the antiques at Hearst Castle. When you do that you get a special tours and invitations to special events. One of the special events I got invited to was a fundraiser event that was a pool party at the Neptune pool. You had to pay for a ticket to the party and at the party you got to swim in the Neptune pool.

Is it possible to swim in the indoor pool

Yes, I have seen some opportunities to swim in the indoor pool. If you join the Friends of Hearst Castle and volunteer, they sometimes do volunteer parties.

how deep is it?
@pedrozatravel2 жыл бұрын
I don't know exactly, the sides are kind of shallow like 4 feet, the area by the venus statue is like 5 ft deep, but the middle is pretty deep, my guess is like 8 feet. I jumped in from the middle to the middle and I was completely submerged and I am 6 ft. tall.

I think WRH and Marion would love people to still be using the pool. This house was built to enjoy and share with others.
@pedrozatravel Жыл бұрын
When the Hearst family donated the house to the state they still maintained the right to use the house (and they still own all the land around the house) and the Hearst family still hosts parties their as well.
