Swindon Rail Works Tribute 2022

Today marks the 36th Anniversary of the closure of the world famous Swindon Railway Works.
The hooter sounded for 5 minutes at 4.30pm on 26 March, 1986.
We remember the thousands of men and women who worked 'inside' and helped make Swindon the town it is today.

Good video Paul do miss it all Swindon shouldve never been closed. Tell me when Swindon Cable closed what happened to all the archive footage

Very shortsighted at the time, it had everything needed for the railway. Why put a shopping centre instead of a workshop that could do everything. Just think if it was still there how it could serve preserved railways, even new builds. Very shortsighted.

Thatcher & Co had no authority to close something that did not belong to them. I hear it closed with full order books. A .gov gets its orders from us. Not vice versa.
