Twenty percent - that's one in five - of the UK’s workforce is foreign born, up from 15% a decade ago.
Sky's communities correspondent Becky Johnson has gauged opinions in Swindon, where the population has also ended up with one in five people being born outside the UK.

I still remember the promise made during the Brexit process. People voted leave as they believe they would have control on migration.At the end it was a cheap propaganda which led into more migrants towards Britain More people moved to Britain after Brexit referendum than ever. Many skilled European and British staff left the NHS (left Britain)as a result there is less doctors. East European who used to work in British farms also left. There are several jobs in Britain that British people won’t do it. The migration problem is all over Europe. The solution is simple, send back home the illegal people , recruit more medical staff, cut benefits for those who are fit to work ,encourage British people to get require training to fulfill jobs, reduce taxes for working class and increase for riches. I don’t think Reform, Conservative or Labour would do that. British must vote to a party who representatives comes from the working class.

I think they're complaining because so many people are coming even more now, and a lot are not integrating. That barber is working, and typically Indians intergrate others not so much. The car wash owner set up his own business, and those people are working. My grandparents came over many moons ago, can I complain? Immigration is putting Swindon in the map. Swindon town is re-generating and good for economy. I have lived in Swindon, back in the days everything used to shut at 5:30 pm, there were few cafes and local chippys. Now Swindon town in buzzing. Nightlife is good, multiple resturants, hotels are booked, guests are coming out of town for night out in Swindon. More jobs, house prices are going up making local native people rich. Look on the positive side, Swindon has bright future cause of immigration. The ghost town no one used to visit back in 2012 has now transformed in 2024, its cause of immigration. P.S. I moved out of Swindon to London, seeking for better oppurtunity but can't forget Swindon.
