The July #soapchallengeclub technique was the Swing Swirl Technique presented by Rion and Savannah Brandt of San Juan Soapery. This technique seems to be a relatively straight forward (if labor intensive) technique at first glance (but it was quite a bit more challenging than I expected). I did NOT anticipate all the headaches I would get in my five attempts to do this challenge! I don't do anything "simple" so that was part of my problem. I think if I'd started out not quite so ambitious I'd have been a bit more successful. The technique is fun and I encourage you to give it a try! I've tried to share a bunch of tips I learned in the process of making this soap!

But O M G how beautiful is that! You nailed it. ❤️ You were right all along, the soda bottle being too thin. But you nailed the other one. Like I said on Lisa's video this is the most technical soap I have ever seen.

Thank you! I definitely learned a lot from the batches I made. I might fix some of my swing tools to make them work better and try again in the future :) Especially now that I have a better handle on what to do!

Did you enter the pumpkins and the mushrooms? I really hope you win 🎉. Your designs are great ! Good luck!

Thank you! I entered just the pumpkin. I didn't make the mushroom until the last minute and didn't have time to enter it into the bonus category. My pumpkin soap won in the Advanced category! (I just learned yesterday). So that was a nice surprise!

You can email me and I can see if I can make it for you. It's designed for a specifically for the Bramble Berry 5lb mold so depending on your mold it might or might not work. info (at) jennifersoap (dot) com

I love the pumpkin! Will you be selling the tool you used to make it?
@TheSoapArtist

I don't know yet. The tool won't work for every mold, so I have to figure out what I want to do. If you wanted one you can always reach out via email and I can make one for you. info@jennifersoap.com

This was really interesting to watch. What do you do with your failed batches? I have several of my own and Im not sure what I can do with them.
@stevielamonte9068
@stevielamonte9068 11 ай бұрын
As long as the batches are not failed due to being lye-heavy, shred the soap, melt it in a double boiler with a small bit of coconut milk. Might be a type of 'French milled' soap when you are done. I did an experiment 10 years ago with shredding and adding a little coconut milk then remolding after it had sort of melted together. Turned out really nice.

The designs didn't work, but the soap itself is still perfectly good. So I'll sell it. Generally I just discount it a little or I include it in grab bags I sell. There are lots of people who just want some nice handmade soap and are happy to buy some "imperfect design" as a slightly reduced price :)

Idea - next time, don't put the top layer on before you pull through. I love it though.

Yeah...it's a lot of work. Will I do this again for designs I'll sell in the future...maybe. For the challenges though it's about learning a new technique and that can be fun to do and learn :D

@TheSoapArtist i tried some with words like "love", you can see it and the colors are nice but i dont think it's wow, effort vs. end result.....
@TheSoapArtist
@TheSoapArtist 11 ай бұрын
@@heletvanblerk4461 Yeah I think the tool you use is super important and if the trace isn't just right and the pull tool not perfect then the end result is less than amazing and NOT worth the effort. I find a lot of techniques I'll try so I know how to do it, but it's not something I'll continue to use in my every day soap making!
