Edit: In blender 3.0 and above the whole Geometry Nodes system has been refactored to use the new Fields system, so this tutorial is unfortunately a bit outdated now. I will make new tutorials, though :) Let's see what you guys think of this new format with the text boxes! I do realise that I leave a lot of explaining for the texts, and that it might be a bit jarring to pause all the time if you want to get all the info.. Then again, I managed to fit a reasonably complex effect with a lot of additional info in a

@@SketchesForHumanity I really like it as well :) I often rewatch tutorials and being able to read the in-depth notes the first time and afterwards be able to rewatch without needing to skip any long explanations is really nice. I also memorize written things way better so these notes really help with my understanding of blender! Also the disc golf part was very relaxing. I enjoy the harmony between the tutorials that require focus and the relaxing content afterwards.

This text box system works really well, making it possible to learn more without extending length of the tutorial. I would move those boxes a little bit higher from the bottom part of the video because KZbin video timeline goes on top of it when pausing the video making it harder to read the texts. Thank you for informatic and well done tutorial. Kiitos!

with the last build of blender 2.93, If you don't have any reaction of the distance (and thus , of the sphere scale) variable to the movements of the falloff, first create an attribute fill node with the z position of the falloff, then do the math with the z value of the initial plane. Took me long time to work around ;

Hey! I really enjoy your tutorials! information is constructive and straight to the point. Loved additional text boxes, great way to add up info for noobs (like me hehe) to learn basic stuff in detail. The "after tutorial time" is my favorite to be honest. I love learning new blender tricks but sometimes it could be quite daunting to go through even a 20 min video, but with your videos I know there is going to be a "treat" at the end, motivates me to do more. I like some philosophy or to see whatever you do in your regular life and that... that connects me to you on a personal level. Like, you are not just a random blender tutorial guy, you got essence! Gives me such great desire to know more about you, what you do, what is your name, what are your plans for the future, how do you figure blender out? Anyway, thanks again for your videos! They are pure gold.
@SketchesForHumanity
@SketchesForHumanity 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this comment, Aleksandra! I really appreciate you taking the time to give this positive feedback :) This is exactly what's been my plan, to try to also provide something else than pure blender in these videos, to hopefully make people interested in other things I've got going on. My "big picture" goal actually has nothing to do with blender, and this whole channel started out as a behind the scenes channel for my "main project", which is the Songs For Humanity project/channel. Songs For Humanity is about using music, animation/video and philosophy to try to increase people's sense of global unitedness, positivity and mindfulness, and to get excited about the future instead of all this fear that we see nowadays. As I say, even if the ship is going down, I want to go down singing beautiful songs instead of screaming :) Well, as it turns out, there's absolutely no search visibility for a project like that, so I figured I'll first gather an audience with some other types of videos, and try to include some philosophy in there also to hint at these greater aspirations, and to then hopefully get back at the big picture project at some point. And as you can see, blender tutorials turned out to be the best way for me to do that. You can check out the Songs For Humanity channel if you want, but be aware that there's now only a few quite old videos.. I'm of course learning a lot about making engaging content with all these other videos :) But yeah, stay tuned for a lot of other things besides blender tutorials! It looks like I'll get a dedicated small studio space later this year, which means it'll be easier for me to make music/videos. I'm very excited about that, and the growing audience I'm getting here at KZbin! And again, thanks for the encouraging comment :)

@SketchesForHumanity
@SketchesForHumanity 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! Yeah, the 0:08 effect was done by separating the points before instancing ("point separate" node) with another random mask attribute (just a random 0-1 float), and then adding two instancing nodes with two different spheres, one with the emissive material and the other with a regular green material. Another simple way of making the same thing would be to just copy the whole setup onto another plane and choosing a different sphere for those instances. Hope this helps!

I loved the tutorial, but i think it would have been nice if you included how to make the swirls different colors. For example in the result you showed in the beginning of the video there was some swirls that were green and some had blue emission on them

Thanks for the feedback! The different colors were made by having one more random float (0-1) in the first geonode group, and then adding a point separate node using that random float as a mask, and then feeding both outputs into different point instance nodes. Those instance nodes can then have different sphere objects with different materials. Another way to do it is to just copy the whole setup and changing the seed of the point distribution, and also changing the instance object to one with a different material. Hope that helps!

The disco golf render wasn't too bad. A bit noisy. Eevee or Cycles?

Cycles, since I wanted to get that realistic lighting around the baskets. Took forever to animate the player, though!
