Great video and overview. Totally agree about them being addictive. I bought one 18 months ago and now have 28 of them 😬

They are addictive. I recently bought 4 more at two local flea markets in our area. Only have $35 dollars invested into 4 of them. 😉

It’s so hard to choose between the handyman and the field-master. I think I gonna choose the field-master cause it’s nice and compact while the handyman is huge and thick. I would like the pliers though!
@piotrekz21422 жыл бұрын
So what did you choose? 😊
@davidmathews21243 жыл бұрын
I like the Ranger. First knife I’ve found that adds the metal saw/file to my required wood saw & scissors...and is OK for my pocket. Don’t need the pliers. I don’t come across loose bolts in the woods. The ideal knife would be the above in Alox. One nice thing about a Celador clad SAK is the folks aren’t afraid of ‘em. They’re universally seen as a friendly camping kind of thing.

I like the pliers for fishing, helps get hooks out or any quick repairs
@davidmathews21243 жыл бұрын
Yup. Good plan. Note: it might be mentioned that the file is not intended for hard steel...even steel as soft as an ax. The file steel used by Victorinox in this is not your typical file steel. Non-ferrous should be fine + plastics & wood. This is not officially from the maker but I’ve seen it posted in several reviews, etc.

I used the pliers as a tweezers. I needed to make a hole in 5 mm small detail. The pliers of SAK worked as a tweezers.

I've got the handyman with plus scales and the pliers have come in handy many many times really don't have problems carrying it think to me it's all I need for edc

Mountaineer is everything on the Handyman minus pliers AND saw, on the back it's minus the small flathead and chisel. The one you were thinking of is the Ranger, which is Handyman minus pliers. I do the pairing with a keychain multitool too, but it's the Leatherman Squirt with the Hiker. Hiker is the same as Camper except it has a 3D Phillips SD (like on your Fieldmaster). Personally I prefer the Squirt over the Dime because the file is bigger. The Hiker and Squirt give me the same toolset as the Handyman, minus corkscrew and chisel (which would be difficult to use as a backtool on an SAK anyway), with an added small blade. Squirt lives in my coin pocket and the Hiker goes in my back pocket on a small carabiner off a belt loop.

Great points. And totally squirt is great,wish price was little better so can have couple. Drop has new small tool might pick it up.
@simonh63714 жыл бұрын
@@RandoRaf Yeah you're right about the price, I'm in the UK and US brand multitools are really expensive here, you won't normally find a Squirt for less than £40 ($50), if you shop around you can get a Handyman for the same.

I use my corkscrew when camping to twist into the end of a long stick, then pull out the saw and use it as a saw extension to get dead hanging branches that are out of reach for firewood

How about the Explorer? It has the scissors AND the newer-style magnifying glass. Though I wish the housing was metal and not plastic.

One way to make carrying this easier I like to carry the super tinker with the farmer the in-line all is a great tool and it has a thicker, more durable knife, and a better saw than the 91 mm versions and having two tools with separate things that I can hold out on something like a nut with the pliers on one side while turning a screw with the others can opener etc so it makes it more versatile and easier to carry just throw one in each pocket.

@bohnert753 жыл бұрын
I use a 84 mm 'tourist' as backup for my 91 mm 'huntsman+', and a 'signature light' for my 'tourist'. My first choice for a SAK would be the 'Supertinker' or the 'climber', but they costs more than the huntsman. Greets

I did a bunch of research and decided to get the Fieldmaster. As I'm only going to get one. I wanted to get one to mess around with while rewatching all of the original Macgyver episodes. As I find them a little hard to watch now even though I loved it back in the day. I went to Boyscouts back when Macgyver was on the air, and you had to have a knife. And so we went to the store and they had an authentic red Swiss Army Knife, but I guess it was too expensive. And luckily I guess they had a cheaper knock off, which is what I got. It was a knock off of the Camper. Though I always was pissed that I didn't have an authentic Swiss Army Knife. I also hated the cork screw as I found it to be useless and was jealous of a friend who had an authentic Swiss Army Knife that had a screw driver instead of a cork screw.

I EDC the Swiss Champ in my right front pocket within the inner pocket watch/change pocket. I do not realize it’s there unless I reach in my pocket. I carry a Buck 112 in the left front pocket and the Buck 110 in the left rear pocket. I guess being a former artillery guy I have become accustomed to carrying what others consider heavy.

@@RandoRaf Squirt or Rambler are perfect too. I forgot about those, lol...
@jwilsonhandmadeknives27602 жыл бұрын
the Rambler belongs on every single keychain on the planet. It’s just incredibly useful, while totally unnoticeable size wise. I carry my Deluxe Tinker on a dangling pocket clip and don’t even know it’s there. I’m 50 and kind of wish it had a magnifying glass. I use the magnifier app on my phone quite often to read serial number or see fine details if I don’t have my reading glasses handy. So that led me to the Explorer, but I also love my little pliers on the Tinker Deluxe. Gahhh…. So many choices. I may just customize my Tinker by adding the magnifier, but then it’s going to be a chonk.

Is the handyman too bulky as a keychain? Weight is not a problem for me. I have around 6-7 medium sized keys. So will the pocket bulge be really visible?
@RandoRaf3 жыл бұрын
Yea I would say so, I couldn't imagine it as keychain. I think the camper or compact would be as large as I can see being keychain worthy.

@@RandoRaf oh thanks. Also most of those tools are never used in urban environments. Could settle with something smaller. Personally I think the simple 5 tool one is good. Maybe I'll buy a special edition design/ color or material or something so I can add to the aesthetic value.....
