I was actually wondering why you had less than 20! Not why you had more than one!! Lol I think the extra slide is from the versions with a clock in the scales. I think it's really just the XAVT and the traveler. I'm not positive, though. I really glad that you made this video. Because I have found this mod to be a little bit nerve-wracking for me for some reason. Now I might give it an attempt. Thanks for the shout out!!

Anne Hi you are correct it was for a special short pair of tweezers the head tilted the same way as normal ones and opposite the toothpick. Over the years there were several models with a screen in the front scale. Originally they just didn’t include tweezers. but then they came up with the short ones. Interesting though the scales were made from a different plastic, more brittle. I replaced the back scale on an early Altimeter Plus model to add the tweezers and the old scale exploded into several pieces while trying to remove it.
That’s awesome! I had no idea about the secret slot. Looks easier to do than it sounds. Great video!

@@ConansEasyDadCarry I was looking to get one for myself. It can’t decide which I want. I found some with pliers and scissors found one that even has slip joint pliers. I also want the electrician one very small but has two blades looks very handy. Also hard time finding yellow or any color other than red

@@jamesfair9751 - I'm actually doing a video about different saks and their features soon. Picking the "right one" is tough. I actually rotate through a few. As far as the scales, besides red and black, I recommend the link in the description for more colors and kits!

Love the yellow scales. They had them for the Vic Walker 84mm for like a whole week and now they're gone. If you did re profile the tooth pic would you use 3 different grits of wet sand paper, a dremel tool or just the file from the handyman? I've always been skeptical of small ferro rods. That is until I was gifted a Leatherman signal. It too has a small ferro . Then the use sank in. "Where's the Zippo? Where's the Bic?" In a pinch you still have a spark.
@ConansEasyDadCarry Жыл бұрын
The toothpick will just be like I did for the Handyman. The file on the sak, and some 600 grit sandpaper I keep for general finishing. A small ferro rod is definitely not a replacement for an actual lighter by *any* means. But it *is* better than no lighter. A Spark is a spark!

I was able to convert regular scales to plus scales, no extra slot. I used a 2mm watchmakers screwdriver as a chisel for the pen slot and a .06 screwdriver for the pin slot. Slow and steady. What other SAK modifiers don't tell you is that the plus scales are thicker, 3.9mm at the pin opening vs 3.3 on regular scales where the pin hole will be. I also used the file on my ranger to make the opening for the top of the pen. You can buy complete plus kits for $30 plus dollars or just buy some pens for less money and do your own mods. Everyone has straight pins.

@hitchpost5822 Жыл бұрын
You might get a toothpick from a 58 mm knife and see if it fits better. the main difference between the so-called small & large toothpick is the design of the head because of where the slot is in the scales. the small toothpick slot is in the middle of the end instead of to the side. so reprofiling might not have to be as drastic. That slot was designed for a special short pair of tweezers, I just put a small toothpick in the regular tweezers slot on a 91 mm knife it actually fit pretty well with out any modification. If you have access to a small toothpick you might give it a try and see what you think. I would be interested in knowing the results.
@ConansEasyDadCarry Жыл бұрын
The head is definitely profiled differently, so requires less work to line it up. It's still a little long and needs some trimming at the end, but that's not the real problem. The head on the toothpick of the smaller tools is actually *thinner* than the standard large toothpick, and sits flush if not a little recessed on the 91mm scales. Makes it almost entirely impossible to pull it without another tool. Honestly, this has already felt pretty good!

i watched 3 other people try and take the scales off of these and they made it look like a nightmare... this looked like cutting cake....
@ConansEasyDadCarry Жыл бұрын
To be fair, these were pretty new scales/saks, so it may get harder over time as they collect grime inside and the plastic swells and warps. If I have trouble in the future I'll probably try the soaking thing, but it was way easier than I thought it would be.
@Happycamperedc9 ай бұрын
Would the small toothpicks fit so you dont have to trim?

I did the same with my Huntsman, opening up a second pinhole next to the original one for a sewing needle.

How do you stop the sewing needle from falling into the scales and also is it easy to withdraw?
