Yes, only private shooting range provide targets under 300meters for the GP11. You can hit a coin at 300 meters with standard GP11, k11 long or k31, with the diopter. And with practice (lot) with iron sigth you can hit a 5cm target from that distance easily.
@marcmonnerat48504 жыл бұрын
@Charlie B Well, the visual is a black circle of 60cm wide, but grouping fall within 10cm with iron sight, for decent shooters.
@fragnix8084 жыл бұрын
@Charlie B hm.. guess many 16year olds in switzerland do world class shooting then :D I'm a trainer in 300m shooting. the target is explained here: www.jungschuetzen-diessbach.ch/schweizerschiesssport300m/scheibenerklaerungenundvergleiche/index.php the good ones hit 8-10 of 10 in the small circle in the middle with open sights. (not everyone uses the 100points rating though. But for those that do, a100 is a 2" target)

The straight-pull action looks so smooth. I remember Ian from Forgotten Weapons saying that in general straight-pull is worse than bolt-action, but I would say this Swiss precision mechanism is the exception to the rule.
@outspokengenius4 жыл бұрын
Straight pull is still bolt action. It's faster than anything short of the Enfield. The Swiss rifles 1889, 96/11, 1911, and K31 are very smooth as is the Canadian Ross. The 1895 Mannlicher is a bit rough getting the bolt open. The Ross, Mannlicher, and Schmidt-Rubin are the only successful military straight pulls. As far as modern straight pulls I think the Blaser is it. Other than .22 rimfires from Browning and whomever makes the Olympic guns for the Biathlon.
@robosoldier112 жыл бұрын
I think the general question was "does a straight pull make that much of a difference performance wise" in comparison to regular bolt rifle mechanics. I would say it could potentially be an edge but I think from what I recall from ians video and just listening to other sources. In the grand scheme of things its really not that much of a benefit or makes that great of an impact. Not to say it doesn't provide some measurable difference but really it might be so minuscule it comes off more as an esthetic distinction then anything assuming good manufacturing on a regular bolt rifle action vs. straight pull.

I live in Switzerland and I'm a member of the local shooting club in St. Gallen and even though lots of people nowadays prefer Stgw 90 (SIG 550) or the older Stgw 57 (SIG 510), my favorite gun to shoot is K31. One of the most popular rifle competitions across the country is to shoot 10 shots at 300 meters (~330 yards) using any of the Swiss service rifles (other guns are not allowed) and a special version of open sights called the diopter. I think the target is 1x1m and the maximum number of points you can score per shot is 10, meaning you hit a 10x10 cm or 4 inch circle from 330 yards. I'm pretty new to the local shooting club, but I was able to score 87 points with the diopter. My friend who is a complete beginner scored slightly over 70 points just with the stock open sights! He inherited the gun from his grandfather who got it from the army. The gun might be really old, but if you get one in a good condition, it still offers an excellent precision and accuracy. I've once asked in the store and they told me that a barrel in good condition can last around 2000 shots before being worn out. The guns are quite cheap here, around $300 for one in a good condition, but newly made barrels are also available, although they cost a whopping $1000 for some reason. There are also countless accessories for this gun that allow you to install a picatinny rail, new stocks (including polymer ones, alike for a sniper rifle) and who knows what else, but I don't know why would anyone do that to such a nice gun :D Thank you for making such a nice video!

@@Robert53areaIn a military loading both the 7.5x55 Swiss and 7.62x54R run about 2650fps with a 175gr bullet. No reason the 54R would hit harder. While I agree their a great cheap alternative they have nothing on the accuracy or the fit and finnish of a K31, G96, G96/11, or Schmidt-Rubin 1889.

I've had a few 3/4" groups at 100 yards that surprised the hell out of me in a very pleasing way. To me it just feels right when I'm shooting it. It's heavy, but really doesn't feel that much while shouldered. I took it out gopher hunting for the fun of it. Ya, gophers don't hold together that well under a 174g bullet lol. Even a few close misses would send the gopher flying just from the impact lol. I got a clamp on scope sight for it. It's off set, and surprisingly holds zero good for the way it clamps on. Plus I can still use the open sights with it. Great rifle.

The 7.5x55 with a 174gr bullet has basically the same ballistics as a .308 even though the case of the 7.5x55 is a fair bit larger. If your bullets are whizzing past gophers I guarantee the blast is not hurting them. That's simply impossible as proven by Demolition Ranch's video of a .50BMG going through a house of cards and not affecting it. Now if your hitting low the dirt could definately be hitting the gophers.

Only problem is the ammo price is high but if more of these rifles purchased both the supply and demand will go up. Maybe see lower prices in future. Need to find more surplus ammo. That would be great! I seen 8mm Mauser surplus ammo go in bulk for 35.6 a round compared to 7.5x55 at .96 to 1.10 a round. Ammo seek has the best pricing for ammo. Gets the best price browsing all sites. That’s why I kind of want a Mauser too. The dollars that fly out of my barrel are cents. What should I do?

I have a weird but cool idea how about a Italian Carcano with the same style scope that was used to assassinate JFK?

We definitely need the PTR-91 reviewed. PTR vs FAL would be awesome.

Ammo were 37 years old but worked exellent. Rifle without optics and shot very good. This rifle and these ammo were done for real war, not for hunting and other civilian plays, and they do they job. Shooters also are good. Like for video.

cheers. The quality of the rifle and ammo were superb, as you would expect with swiss quality.

One suggestion. Give us a view of the sight picture at the beginning of the video. I've never looked down the sights of many of the rifles being used.

Hopefully a trolling comment...cause that's in the first 4 seconds of the video lol

@@9HoleReviews No trolling. i guess I just missed it. Do you show the sights in all of your videos like this ? I've been watching all of your videos with this format. maybe it was one of the others.

I regret selling mine. Someone offered me more money then I paid for it and I thought I could replace it, and then the market dried up. That has happened FAR to many times. I have wised up though, especially with surplus. Now when someone asked to buy something for more then I paid for it, I tell them na, but I can score you one if you really want one. Has saved me from selling my surplus collection, ha.

Great concept on the sights, moving to 6 o clock hold the further out you go. I wonder why that idea hasn't been more prevalent in modern arms. Excellent shooting as usual Mr Chan!

Not an expert but the older military rifles seem to be of a higher quality than what they make today. The kind of accuracy you just displayed was impressive from a 60-70 year old rifle and open sights.
