The extension of the trams in le mans is needed. As a big French motorsports fan I've beneath a few times, and damn does the tram gets crowded during the race. The track is directly connected to the tram, so you can get from paris to the 24 hour without ever needing to get off a train!

Some more transit news in the Boston area: In addition to the BRT project in Everett I mentioned to you before, Everett also got money from the reconnecting communities federal grant to plan for an infill commuter rail station on the Newburyport/Rockport line, that connects with that busway, along with improved multi-use trail connections. That same grant program also gave money to Lynn to plan a relocation of the only private station on the system (Riverworks), also on the Newburyport/Rockport line, out of an industrial wasteland which blocks pedestrian access and into the nearby neighborhood, and for a project that reduces the size of a highway interchange in Alston and places an infill commuter rail station and bus loop (West station) on the Worcester line. Boston Mayor Michellle Wu has also announced a city funded infill station on the Needham commuter rail branch in West Roxbury. In the past week or so we have had new announcements or major progress on 3.5 new commuter rail stations in the inner urban parts of the Boston metro area on 3 different lines (I say 3.5 because the relocation will functionally create a new station).

5:40 agree completely. Building a tunnel and putting it outside the city makes no sense at all. Put it where the people and city life are!

both cities I've been living in have recently upgraded to those ultra long trolley busses. I just hope they will soon upgrad some of those lines to trams.

8:51 I've noticed some things about things in North America, caused by, you probably guessed it, car dependency. The sprawl has gotten so ugly, that cities' budget tend to break even more than going up. My home town of Victoriaville QC announced at the beginning of 2023 that it got the biggest budget by taxes yet (likely due to current growth), but spending is still higher so they are getting more loans. Meanwhile, a French city of a similar size (48k) can afford buses (the entire Québec province is having severe funding issues for public transit, so service cuts have started in Montreal). It's anecdotal sure, but for cities out here, it seems they always need to get loans. It tells that maybe they're too big for their economy. Spendings being too high partly because... well... sprawl. Sprawl can reduce the capacity of a city to act because money. Car dependency makes us collectively poorer.

04:28 Rail bypasses where stations get moved to the middle of nowhere? Nothing new here in Italy, unfortunately, and I doubt we’ll see any real development. Just look at Catanzaro, various stations on the Riviera Ligure (Andora, Diano, Imperia, Taggia Arma), the planned bypass in Pesaro the current mayor wants so much, the under construction and long-delayed standard gauge link to Matera (Matera La Martella station), or, sticking to the Bari metro area, the new standard gauge stations in Modugno and Grumo Appula. These are just a few. Unfortunately a lot of Italian local politicians seem to only be interested in getting a high-speed train (not necessarily high-speed rail, though) to stop at their town. The results are either out-of-reach bypasses replacing legacy railways that are seen as nothing more than a barrier, or a handful of “high-speed” services stopping at a lot of stations, while regional rail services are infrequent and often bus-replaced.

News from istanbul! Because of fight between municipality and ministry, newly opened metros are left without trains. Municipality is trying to compensate but the frequency is down(or up idk) to almost 14 minutes. It is pretty hilarious if ur not living in the city.

That's sad. Why are they fighting?
@kaanotta

@@cityforall Different parties are controlling them, ministry is doing everything they can to make the municipal look bad since there are 2 weeks till the municipal elections. Apart from the train issue, several metros have been delayed for years because of this. M9 extension is opening today, it will add 11km and 8 stations. It shares trains with the M3, the line is talked about with 14min headway. I am really wondering what new headway is gonna be… M3 26km 20 stations, M9 17km 14 stations and a total of 20 trains

6:30 Innsbruck is actually running coupled pairs of Bombardier CityRunner (Flexity Outlook C) on its Line 5. But in theory (and until the early 2000s in practice) you can also couple two busses together, as it has been done with the Škoda 9Tr and the ZiU-9 in several former Soviet cities.
@cityforall
@cityforall 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I know about the use of coupled trolleybuses in the USSR. It certainly happened. But, in my opinion, this was done rather because of poverty and the lack of technology for manufacturing high-quality joints for articulated trolleybuses. And also, two articulated trolleybuses is probably the maximum, and then such a train will become very difficult to control. Trams, on the other hand, can be coupled to form trains of up to one hundred meters, and this is their great advantage. Rails rules.

the Nancy gadgetbahn was a combination of trams and busses, bringing together the worst of both worlds

That _gadgetbahn_ in Nancy was just way too expensive to maintain. Replacing them with more "standard" trolley buses was a way better idea.

It's a shane that Nancy isn't using its already tramway-compatible trolley infrastructures to build a tramway lines. Trolleys are great but trams are much better for the longer run
@cityforall

They estimated that conversion to trolleybuses cost 50 mln euro while to the trams - 500. A missed to include it in the video.

@@cityforall The overhead wiring was already in place. switching to a rail trolley would have cost a fortune in Euros due to having to rip up the street to install the trolley rail lines.

Afaik there is a steep incline not viable for a regular tram on this line, reason why they had opted to the "hybrid" version.
