I flew one to Germany in 1996. I wasn’t in to aviation then, so I’m not sure what variation it was. It had the staircase, I remember that because it was so cool to see on a plane.

Fun fact my grandpa was a boing mechanic for over 30 years in the very early 60s to mid 90s I think He worked on Hawaiian Airlines flight 243 when it turned into a convertible and I think he flew on this plane. He also worked on the landing gear got slammed into the concrete wall I think

The upper deck on that thing is perfectly preserved with its 1960's-70's styling. Really a bummer that they dont let guests go up there. the museum has some old photos of the upstairs laying around somewhere which I got to see when I was a volunteer there.

I've seen the Boeing 747 from my own👁👁 but never flown on it before. I did however once in a lifetime eating a steak pasta onboard a retired Boeing 747-400 at a restaurant called Steak 21 at Bekasi in West Java, Indonesia. FYI, Back in August 2024, i manage to calculate how many of those Jumbo Jet that are still in operation and the answer for that is 454. Many of them are cargo planes or converted into freighters

I've been in that plane! I also definitely went inside the 787 prototype on my visit (it was before I'd ever actually ridden on a 787--now I've crossed two oceans in them). So it might have been a timing thing.

As someone who grew up in Seattle and has been to this museum 15+ times, most of what makes the museum special is in the indoor portion of it. The outdoor pavilion is very cool but a lot of stuff onboard the display aircraft there has always been closed off. That 787 has genuinely been closed for maybe 7 years. The museum is really great as is but they keep screwing up its potential by having so much stuff closed off all the time.

The 747 sadly stopped production in January 2023. The 747 was memorable and participated in many events like Operation Solomon. Sadly the era is coming to an end. The last 747 was delivered to Atlas air. But overall the plane is amazing. Long live the queen!✈👑
