When this happens, people point to it as if to say the match wasn’t close. The thing is, all of the judges’ individual scoring might have been really close, they just all thought Napom was a bit better. For example, the judge’s scores could’ve been something like Balistix: 8 - 7.5 - 8.5 - 8 - 7 Napom: 8.5 - 8 - 9 - 8.5 - 8 Some of the judges don’t have to vote for the other person for the battle to be close

It's funny how Ballistix did that "off-tempo" hand gesture when Napom did the switch on 5:56 . It was clearly a premature remark from him considering that Napom is clearly trying to do his classic syncopation stuff. Saying your opponent is off-tempo when they're doing syncopation would kinda give away your lack of rhythmic knowledge. Fortunately, Ballistix cut off that gesture real quickly. Perhaps he realized his mistake? Big ups to both though! I enjoyed this battle a lot from both sides.

What is "syncopation"?

@@andremartins8230 Syncopation is when you're playing more than one rhythm making it seems "off-beat". This can be done when one of the rhythms you play starts at a different beat than the other one. So this is what I mean in Napom's case (sorry for long comment). First of all, his routine is in 4/4 time signature (so you count the beat by saying "one, two, three and four, and repeat). The tempo is stable (most of the time I think) even during the switch-up. Now, there are two rhythms happening: (1) his regular cough snare which is on the *up-beat* (so it occurs between the 1-2-3-4 beats) and (2) His different patterns on top of it which are always starting on the *down-beat* (so it starts on either the one, the two, the three, or the four). His drum-and-bass pattern follows the down-beat. When he did the switch-up (around 6:00 ), he started the different combo on the *second* beat. Deliberately of course because that's what creates the syncopation. Just try to count the number of cough snares he did prior to the switch-up. He did it exactly *nine times*. Eight of them fill up two measures of four beats. Then there's a single cough snare before the new switch enters.

@@andremartins8230 This is a common technique I see amongst beatboxers to do syncopation or "off-beat" routines. You have one regular pattern which is "throat-based" to keep time. And you have another pattern using sounds from your lips and tongue that tries to work its way around it. I think Bloomer does this thing a lot too although his rhythm gets more advanced than that.
