Purely based on live performances, they should have been in. I don't see a crowd going wild with some qualified participants. Perhaps it is my lack of knowledge, but I also don't see their superiority in looping/beatboxing, etc. My only explanation is that according to Rythmid, they deduced points for electronic music because it's not "unique." That is a feeble argument because it pushes the notion of taking something "unique" rather than something "better" (however one defines this) but not unique. Everything is unique until it's not, and in terms of pushing the limits of music, electronic music works quite well with beatbox and loop stations, making it the most prevalent form; look at past highlights. ------------------------------------------ Edit: After reviewing the stream from Kristoff and some of Rythmids' videos, I have to admit that I have changed my opinion to a certain extent. More precisely, I have developed a better understanding of why certain choices were made, and I am more at peace with the final decisions of at least those two individuals. I can see that their critique shows validity and reliability. And I further acknowledge their trying to be as objective as possible in their judgment without considering that some artists' genre choices work better in a live battle situation. However, this leads me to why not all judges try to level this transparency or why the GBB does not try to be even more transparent. If they would attempt to raise their transparency to a level where a report on each individual would be published, including statistical analysis of scores (because having a different score does not imply actual score difference) and some words to explain the choice, this would take away nearly all controversy around judging (of course some people might still disagree with you, despite the most coherent and objective judgment ever). In addition to that, since we are already discussing judging music, why not change the format of the Loopstation battle category to something resembling a showcase? In this way, every artist could be incentivized to create the best possible piece of music instead of a round that has an insane drop. Even further, you could attempt to account for the difficulties associated with a live performance by creating one judgment of the showcase based on a recording and one based on the live version, each having a specific weight towards one final score. But hey, these are just a few ideas of how these processes could be done to create a more leveled competition. And if anyone from GBB reads this and would like to do this, feel free to reach out; considering that you use excel, I am sure I could help you :)

@@Vee-bv1vh it's not like beatbox is spread worldwide. GBB aims at a very nieche audience, an audience of people that listen to beatbox music because they're really into that. It's not like asking random strangers on the street what round did they prefer. Moreover, if it's totally random because "they are not professionals", why does the vast majority all agree on the same 3 names? That must mean something, at least in my opinion.

@@Mosk314 honestly speaking, i didn't like many judge decision too. But i would have had problem if the other 7 or 8 guys that have qualified didn't deserve it. Also i generally dislike people saying " he was better than this guy or this guy doesn't deserve to be in" well people can still make their point even without pulling other guys down but the still do it. Apart from that beatbox community have knowledge about beatbox yes but loop station is different. Most people don't know about music production theory, technicalities ,complexities and judging criteria is quite rigid. Judges have to follow certain guidelines they can make one or two exceptions if someone sounds a cut above other...but that can only take you so far. Don't forget judges most probably have access to raw audios a lot of people ignore that fact. I think that have certainely affected judgement too.

I understand the judges and how hard it is to choose 7 loppers and everything and even tho I have my favorites loopers and some of them didn't get top 7 I still defend the judges because it's really hard to judge without having favorites and honestly I feel that only 7 loopers it's not enough, I feel that a solution for everyone in the community to be happy and make it easier for the judges to judge wildcards it's to make it a 15 wildcard winners because honestly it's starting to feel a little tight to get into gbb with a lot of loopers at the level like for example kba, rusy and m-age.

To be fair 808banon was 21st so it was basically impossible to make it and he climbed all the way to 11th in the total rankings. The judges rated him like top 3 in the second round

All this category in general is fked up in general. 3 out of 3 french loopers that got in Round 1 also got on Round 2, I wonder why... Placements too buffed, only Robin deserved to be in that spot or even higher. BreZ round 1 wasnt it for 1st, and he's Round 2 was all over the place... Mirsa Round 1, buffed, Round 2 no structure at all. Banon, Rusy, Matej, SyJo, Lennard... completely ignored. Glad Josh, Epos and Dice got what they deserve, altough Dice is No1 for a lot of us. I dont like to underestimate all this amazing loopers work, but when its so clear to everyone, its need to be said. I hope next year spots are more than 7, and they make elims just like solo, because a lot of great loopers apparence is beeing wasted.

I'm not even disappointed, just sad... I would really have liked hearing Lennard and Syjo on the stage (I mean Syjo's in, but not in the category I wish he'd have been)... But I respect the judges' decision. And also, because I'm not a judge, and don't know anything about judging, that may be the reason why I didn't understand this ranking. Judges may have heard things that I, a normal enjoyer, didn't. I'm just on the side of the loopers who made musics which pleased to my ears, and nothing about the actual complexity in their pieces. There’s only so many spots. Not everyone can get in. Your issue is more with how many spots they take, not the judges. Judging was actually pretty fair this year minus one or two outliers

Viewers like aggressive tracks based on the fact that it is a battle tournament. However, the judges evaluated only with wild cards, so relaxed style also got high scores. Maybe it's just a difference in perception.

Also people have the impression that if a wildcard is on the more relaxed side, that qualified looper is not actually gonna be a good in a battle which is just false. All of the qualified contestants will be very good in battles, zero doubt in my mind.

I will be honest, top 8 is not enough for anyone, on top of that they added 2 unnecessary categories, Producer and U18, I know we all want to see our future generations but this is World Category, it is not regional or country level. Adding more categories means fewer participants and fewer rounds, so there will be fewer views because great beatboxers who did not enter through the few positions will not see. Until now, in my opinion, the organization in terms of showcases and rounds was fine in GBB21.

If everyone is producing technically and musically high level routines, of course originality becomes the deciding factor. I’m also a little surprised at some of the results, and obviously there will always be a certain degree of subjectivity to judging for such a competition. Anyway, some people had to be selected and some had to be rejected.. as others have said; it would be nice to see a bigger event with more contestants on stage.

the main reason you don't hear much energy now is because wildcards often reward more complete songs than energy and drops; many loopers will bring much more energy to the GBB stage such as AVH, Dice, Epos, etc.

@@maltalented Yes of course, they are wildcards and made after many attempts behind the scenes, when taking these sounds to the stage the errors begin, for example Dice, Sxin, etc in GBB21. None of them made it past the first battle, in fact none of the ones here have made it far in any scenario except 3 or 4.

The main reason why there is so much "aggression" or disagreement and non-understanding is because there are only 8 loopers in GBB23. I mean, the wildcard session with 2 rounds is a way bigger event than the event itself. Just imagine we had 15 wildcards. How many people would be happier? For me, this 8 looper gbb is dead, absolute boring and not interesting (okay maybe mainly because syjo and lennard are not in;)). but look, we have only 8 loopstation battles for a 4 day event! wth. why going back to that size. makes noone happy. everyone is angry.. Nothing against brez or dice or robin, i love their music, but it could be so much better.

Congratulations to all who qualified, but so sad to see all the toxicity in the community during the reveal livestream. My top 1, Rusy, for round 2, did not get in, but you don't see me telling all the incredible artists who qualified that they don't deserve it because of that. The logistics of running live sound for eight loopers is hard enough, especially one after the other, and it's understandable that they had to pick a small number, especially with GBB at a whole new stage. Better to have a small selection and not have loopers like Dice have to deal with crazy sound issues imo. We need more positivity in the community. All of these artists work incredibly hard to bring us material, they don't deserve to be attacked because of a judge's decision that they didn't even make. Neither do the judges, they have a different unique perspective, but that doesn't make them any less qualified to judge. Music is subjective, not everyone is going to share your opinion of what the top 7 should be. Let's be happy for the ones who made it.

IKR, 808bannon and Cardona did very well in their 2nd round and might as well qualify for GBB. But since these two are dead last in the previous round, it's extremely unlikely that they have any chance to pass.
