17:30 Console generations have really elongated out going into the 2000s - There were 8 years between the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One releases which at the time, that was seen as unusually long but it really has become the norm since then. It's easy to forget that ever since PS3/Xbox 360, both Sony and Xbox have had 7-8 years in between console generations (with more powerful mid-generation Pro models as well).

(I’ve adored my Switch Lite for several years….endless hours on Resident Evil 4 & Bloodstained.) Side note: I don’t comment often (busy life), but I’ve been a fan of your stuff for ages, Pat. You’re a true OG. Thanks for the entertainment & apparent passion for this stuff. I particularly enjoy the flea market vids with Frank. I love what they have done with the Switch 2... as it was said... everything ... (almost) we really want... and 100% on point with the mouse function on one to be used for looking/aiming in a FPS title.. etc... just amazing... pretty excited about this.. I just hope there is a supply that doesn't get bought up by scalpers..

Nintendo tends to drag their feet bringing new games into existing franchises because they struggle trying to figure out how to make them new and interesting. Here's my idea for a new Starfox, equal parts 3D shooter, 2d sidescrolling shooter, and top down vertical bullet hell shooter.

I’d be shocked if the Switch 2 does 4K even docked unless they have special sauce in the dock. It’s going to be like a handheld PS4.

The original console generation ran over a decade, ps4 was around 8 years, what are you even talking about, unprecented?. Also, the Switch didn't come up with the template for modern handheld, did you completely forget about the psp and vita?. The tech is way older than eight years, it was already archaic when Sony used it in the ps4, folk complained back then.

my personal guests on why it took so long is because I didn't want to have the switch burn the switch to like the Wii to the Wii u or ps2 did the ps3 and of course the switch selling well

I think you guys are overstating how much Nintendo incorporates gimmicks into their main consoles. Going through the consoles from the NES-GameCube, the core differences were either the improvement in graphics or the transition from primarily 2D to 3D graphics. All the consoles during this era controlled pretty traditionally and were fairly similar to each other aside from additions like shoulder buttons and the analog stick. Even though the Wii was part of the motion control fad from the mid-2000's to early 2010's, Nintendo incorporated those controls into the Wii more successfully than Microsoft and Sony would with their respective consoles. Although the Wii U was a commercial failure in large part due to lackluster marketing, I think Nintendo had the right idea in terms of incorporating the gamepad. They needed a generation to refine their concept, leading to the massive success of the Switch. Additionally, I don't see how a franchise like Star Fox could sell for full price (or even 2/3's the price) of a standard release. I think this is largely due to the relative simplicity and brevity of its genre (on-rails shooter). The only way I could see Nintendo justifying a full-length price is if they incorporate the mechanics of something like Star Fox: Assault with the more traditional gameplay.

All mobile phones have an incredibly high pixel density, 120hz, and most have OLED screens. People are conditioned to this, so a 1080p LCD screen is likely going to feel dated out the gate. 2k would be OK

Pat, the GPU on the switch uses the Ampere architecture. That architecture released on Nvidia's GPUs in September of 2020. It isn't 8 year old tech. If hardware has similar theoretical performance to older hardware, it doesn't mean ti is the same age as the comparative older hardware.
