Y’all must not realize how drunk you have to be to actually black out and not remember anything. In no capacity is someone THAT drunk look like a willing participant. They both agreed that she couldn’t make it on the bed on her own. He acknowledged that she never said yes, just that she didn’t say no. How he’s coherent enough to do all of those things AND remember shows me that only one person had control of the situation

Man this comment section is hard to read. I get that people might be upset by how one mistake sent Tank downhill when he was previously portrayed as a kind character, but you realize that's part of the point right? Most rape cases in real life aren't black and white with an evil man forcing you into an alley, and the outcome may not always be fair on either side of things. "Sometimes good guys can do bad things," right? I'm not even going to get into the argument of who was more drunk. I'll just say, even if they were equally drunk, Bay had already made it clear in the past she didn't want to have sex with Tank while they were in a relationship (while he felt entitled to it), and because you can't consent when intoxicated, it's pretty obvious Tank took advantage of her drunk state whether he meant to or not. Bay was clearly upset and disoriented the morning she woke up next to him, before anyone had a chance to "alter" her thoughts on it, like a lot of people are saying. Just because she didn't have the terminology to call it a rape, doesn't mean that wasn't how she felt when it happened. I know all the comments on here are years old, but I just couldn't stand all the victim blaming. Like goddamn, I hope none of you ever have to support a friend who's been violated.

Bay didn't even think it was rape until her mom said she thought it was. The way they portrayed it, both of them were plastered, and so you can't make a case for one being raped and not make the same case for the other. The way Tank's been treated ever since has, frankly, been unfair. If they had made it to where Bay was trying to stop or say no, then it would've been rape, but that wasn't the case. It was drunken consensual sex. Pour judgment on both parts.

I cringe whenever this situation came up on SAB because i don't think the writers wrote it well. It was written as both Tank and Bay have drunken sex and then the days after you see people subconsciously manipulating Bay's judgement and asking "are you sure it wasn't something else?" and Tank is painted as this horrible guy when it could have just been a drunken hook-up that Bay regretted the next day It's like when iris got mad at mingo for dressing as lil wayne for halloween and saying it was racist and he was making fun of black people. Mingo wasn't in black face nor was he saying that that's how all black people act. He was portraying lil wayne's character but the writers didn't write that story well either

For this situation between Bay and Tank… it came down to 1 question for me. Would she have felt something was wrong if she was single? Or was the feeling more so that she cheated on Emmett? Because when she woke up her feeling wasn’t “something was wrong” it was “I just cheated on my boyfriend”. Even if you didn’t intend to sleep with him; I don’t personally believe this was a situation of assault as Tank was highly intoxicated also. If Bay woke up with Tank and was single … I think she would have felt a little freaked out but it CERTAINLY wouldn’t have gone the route it did. I think she let herself play the victim to keep her relationship Alive more than anything and once she wasn’t with Emmett anymore she genuinely felt bad when she ran into him at the restaurant and realized she actually ruined his entire life. They both got drunk; they both made mistakes but only Tank really payed for it with his future Vs Bay payed for it socially … it was tough to watch but the actor who played Tank nailed his character and I’m really impressed

Literally everything in this comment was disproven on the show. Like literally everything you wrote is the opposite of what was said. Bay said she felt like something was wrong and felt violated not that she felt like she cheated. She BEGGED Emmett to talk about it so she could take accountability for what led to the situation. This is the only series that made me question what is drunk hooking up and what is not. They tried to use rape as a plot advancement as people do very often and maybe tried to make it into something but it just doesn’t work. If someone cannot even standup straight consent is automatically cancelled out, it doesn’t matter what they said before or said mid drunkenness that is a no go. Being drunk doesn’t completely mess you up unless you are blackout like your common sense is still there... you may be hard to understand and be as heavy as a brick but it doesn’t make you unable to make good decisions when it comes to other people.

I think they did a really good job. You grow up with this idea of rape as black and white, matter of fact or nothing at all. In actual fact bad things happen that are very complex, confusing, and made even harder when you can't fully alienate someone as the 'bad guy.' Bay experienced something terrible, and how she felt about that was invalidated by how grey and murky the situation was. I think Tank made a bad choice. No, at the time he probably didn't realize he was doing it, and yes, he was drunk and with less self control or awareness, but NO. What happened to Bay was NOT OKAY. And that needs to be made clear, whether Tank could have been an evil villian or a guy who made a mistake that later proved to be devastating with horrific consequences is irrelevant.

I was drunk, and my "rapist" was not drinking. He really didn't believe he did anything wrong because I had given consent while intoxicated. I wouldn't have otherwise. It was a grey area. If we'd both been drunk, I would say it wasn't rape I would have said it was drunken sex. He wasn't though, and that makes things a little murky. I don't think Bay was raped. I think they had drunken sex and regretted it the next morning.

I do think that Tank was also a victim in this situation, because you are right that the girl is believed over everyone else in these situations automatically and that is not fair. But Bay was not believed, or taken seriously as someone who went through something bad as soon as she said that she didn't think that it was rape. I remember back in the day, the only place to write comments about an episode was on facebook. It was quite irritating the overwhelming majority female voters were all calling rape. The Bay/Tank situation was absolutely not rape. Both Bay and Tank got wasted, had sex, and barely remembered the night. Happens all the time. She didn't say no, he didn't say no. Even as a kid when I watched this, it infuriated me when the writers did Tank dirty like that. THEY WERE BOTH DRUNK, and even if he was "less drunk", he was still drunk nonetheless. After that I couldn't stand to watch the show anymore. I could see what the writers were trying to do, but this was a very poor example/execution. If she feels violated, its not important what it looks like, its rape. When she woke up, she was clearly uneasy. She said, she was thinking something was wrong. That means, her body remember something that her mind couldn't . That means trauma. She was rape. He didn't think it was, and he is not a bad guy. He was drunk too and didn't see the sign that she wasn't giving consent because of that, but at the end, its still rape because she wasn't giving consent, she hadn't say yes and he choose to ignore it. When you are drunk you don't have sex, because things are way too blurry for that everyone is able to give or ask for consent. Its his fault because she believe she was safe enough with him that he would protect her when she will be drunk. For Tank its just a mistake, a misunderstanding, and somehow it is, but when it come to sex, when someone is forced, its not just a misunderstanding. Its a trauma that your body and mind made time to recover for.

It was clear in both of their drunk flashbacks that Bay was blackout drunk and Tank wasn't & lets not forget he has a history of making Bay feel like shit for not wanting to have sex. I have always wondered for years if Tank dr*gged her drink so he can sleep with her based on both of their stories but that will always be a theory. Mary Beth REALLY did Bay dirty after everything we have been through together. Being there for Ty, Bay being there to comfort Mary Beth when her brother died, always encouraging Mary & letting her know how beautiful she was. She basically did all that and put her with Travis & STILL Mary Beth dated Tank?! I get she was struggling but leaning on your best friend's rapist is not the way to go & part of me thinks she dated him because Bay dated Travis, but that is just me.

where's the victim blaming though? seems like people are just more upset that they completely fucked Tank's character for the sake of the plot/"arc", and tried to use "rape" to advance the plot but it was so badly written. that's not victim blaming. if anything, it's the writers gaslighting the viewers who actually liked Tank. insulting the poor writing =/= victim blaming, maybe learn the meaning of the term before you just throw it out. and another thing, less drunk =/= sober. they were both cognitively impaired. it's a gray area but if they wanted to do a "rape" storyline, this was the worst way to do it especially how people outside of the situation manipulated Bay. *shrug*
