Love your thinking about lack of clutter under the hood and especially your 8 switches! Can’t wait to see them in place! This attention to detail is so important after all that work that Earl did on Eleanore’s beautiful body! 👍

Really cool idea! As far as a mounting system for the circuit boards, you could use ABS sheets with rivnuts to secure the support structure to the vehicle, and the boards in. That would slim down the space used, and you might even be able to build an L shape or something else that might weather protect the boards too.

Thanks for the suggestion, the mounting and the case design for this have become almost as complex as the electrical design... when I got some cool things in mind, so stay tuned!

Earl did such a beautiful job on the paint. Its almost a shame to cover any of it. I definitely like the idea of art deco buttons. That would be great to have power popout windows. Funny how Fierce a 3lb chicken can be. Lol. Good video Lord Duckman. 🦆. Noel

those mounting rails are called din rails. they are used in house fuse boxes here in the UK and other places too. and probably like you said servers. i like the idea of the oil light going on and the starter button turns from red to green sounds pretty cool. definitely make a 3d printed panel to put the switches in that would be nice
@DuckmanCycles11 ай бұрын
Oh yes, I am very familiar with what the rails are called, they are also available in several different widths, and they are found all sorts of places, but most commonly in technology rack. The 35mm top hat unit will probably be what I use here. I thought the smart button lights was a clever idea... now I just need to make it work in the real world! Hehe! Thanks man!

You are welcome. Like I said, I can’t wait to see how this all integrates into the original wiring system. And how it’s going to switch between analog, per se, and digital. Looking forward to the video.

Hi from the uk. Great update, thank you. I expect you’ve already thought of this, but going to say anyway. Have you considered mounting the panels upright but still side by side. Looks like they may fit the vertical height you have and would not be so tight between glove box and hinge. Just a thought. 😊 Keep up the great work. Informative and lighthearted. Enjoyable to watch. 👍👍👍
@DuckmanCycles11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion, I have considered rotating them 90° each... but one of the reasons I don't want them that way is because the case I'm designing in is going to hide all the wires under a lip on the top and bottom. You'll see what I'm saying when I get to that point. But with the boards turned 90°, that's not really possible. 😁👍🦆💩

Can’t remember, maybe you mentioned it already, but planning to have daytime running lights, and like when you hit the left turn signal, have the left headlight go out? Also maybe something cool like, if the car hasn’t been started in x amount of hours, a certain sequence of switches had to be done before the car will start, or even if that’s not done, a shutdown sequence happens after a time period goes by, kind of antitheft stuff but mostly just fun trick things, since you will have endless possibilities. My 58 Beetle has the semaphores, I want to do some things to it like that, I did already make them flash, far as I know they just lit up, no flashing from factory. I always afraid to leave the signal on too long, afraid it will melt down the lift coils, although they do drop to lower power once they are up which is neat as hell.
@DuckmanCycles11 ай бұрын
I could do something like that, dip out the running lights when signal is activated like modern cars. Since every new car seems to have something similar, its not as interesting to talk about. I'm actually ahead of the game on modern cars at this point, too... hehe! No semaphores on this car, although I considered adding them... TO THE SLANTED PILLARS... that would have been different lol!
@waynenocton11 ай бұрын
@@DuckmanCycles not to copy new cars, to help idiots see your signal, but just a thought, there are so many things you can do with what you’re making, can’t wait to see what all you do.

The rats nest is so ugly. I had to take all the wiring out. I am debating buying a new wiring harness cause its the same factory way. I took my harness out of roof channel and i guess i should have left it for a pull. Lol, i will figure something. The old vw switches and knobs are so cool a bit pricey but that beautiful car deserves the best!!! I know your really good but i would try to not mees with the apron. I dont have the factory seal set up whst did you use on your deck lid. It turned out great.
