The GTOD (also known as Classic Overdrive) is probably the most underrated OD ever. It's amazing with all amps. Does the TS thing, but retains more low end, and has a snappier response than a typical tube screamer. MXR nailed it.

Agreed... I have had the GTOD (my first stomp box) since 2008 and toured with it extensively. As they said, the older versions of both these pedals have a hidden internal switch that will turn it into the other pedal. You can add an external switch if you’re handy with a soldering iron. Nice if you play multiple styles with different groups.

Yup, I just did a pedal shootout in my basement a couple of days ago (through a Marshall DSL100H and two 2x12 cabs with Vintage 30's). Tried out Friedman BE OD (Sounded fantastic!), a Sinvertek Drive N5 (Sounded even better), a Suhr Riot Reloaded, Behringer GDI21 (Great for Metal!), and a few other lower budget but good sounding pedals and nothing could beat the MXR GT-OD to my ears. Amazing pedal!!!

Subscribed before I even watch this... I didn't realize that I need to watch this. I owned an MXR Zakk Wylde overdrive, and traded it a few years ago. Not long g after, I regretted it. Then I started hearing that there was an internal switch on the ZW pedal, that, basically, switched the circuitry to a GT-OD. Well, since I no longer own a ZW, I cant confirm if that is true or not, BUT... I am very interested in hearing a comparison of the two. Let the show begin... 👍👍👍

Hey guys, love your channel and your playing (we grew up in the same era). Here's what I'd love to see in your next video: shootout between the Charvel DK22 and the DK24 HSS. Both have roasted maple necks, alder bodies, heel truss rod adjustment, Dinky body shapes, non-locking Gotoh 510 bridges, locking tuners, Seymour Duncan pups...but one has 22 frets and the other 24. I tend to prefer 22 frets due to the sound of the neck pickup; I feel like 24 frets pushes it out of the "sweet spot" and if you demo'd them it would "prove" that (or at least show diff in sound). But maybe there's an advantage to 24 frets that I need to get used to? I notice that both of your personal instruments have 24 frets and humbuckers in the neck, whereas I prefer single coils or P90s in the neck. I also wanna get away from a Floyd...again, like your personal instruments (JP6 and PRS). And speaking of 24 frets...you need to check out Gus G's new Pro Series signature Jackson San Dimas...candy apple red finish with matching reversed tilt-back headstock, maple thru neck w/maple board, 12" radius, mahogany body, and non-locking Gotoh 510 bridge and his own brand Blackfire pups...passive Titans. I think the reversed headstock is such a cool feature...puts more tension on that low E...like the Hendrix Strat. And that CAR finish is sick! And as far as coffee goes...my fav (so far) is Whole Foods organic Pacific Rim, but I gotta check out Zakk Wylde's coffee. Rock on!

Hi John, thanks for the kind words and for checking out our channel! Comparing the 22 vs 24 fret Charvel’s is a good idea, especially for Craig since he uses the neck pickup quite often. Thanks for the suggestion, hopefully we’ll get back to making new episodes soon!!

I heard that these are exactly the same pedal and that there's a switch inside. But that's just what I heard.....and I should have watched the vid before commenting. LOL.
