Union Pacific freight train flat yard switching with Front Runner commuter passenger trains passing overhead. These trains are in Ogden, Utah at the huge railroad yard. Also I chased a very fast freight train to Evanston, Wyoming. Listen to these awesome EMD diesel locomotives as they chug while pushing and pulling heavy lines of freight cars. I filmed this on my trip to chase the Big Boy steam locomotive. See my steam train playlist to see my Big Boy steam locomotive videos and other steam trains. Filmed May 9, 2019. Thanks for watching!

I hated switching, especially when we would pull 60 to 70 cars out to switch, with one SW 1200 or one old Alco RS 1 or 2. It took forever to get them all moving, and about as long to stop them. We would kick 2 or 3 times then pull back. Kick 2 or 3 more times then pull back. It wasn’t until we got rid of about half the cars that we could switch them much easier. To have even two GP 9s would have been great. But to have a couple SD 40s to switch with would have been almost in switching heaven. But for me there could have never been any heaven in switching. Except when the switch Forman said, “We are done, tie em down and let’s go to the house, and we were finish before we were on duty long enough to go to lunch or supper.

My husband and I lived in Ogden. That's where we met. He had been there since 1996 from New York. And I moved there in 2013 from Cincinnati right after thanksgiving. We got married in Ogden. Moved back to my hometown 3 years ago. Every morning I'd take the Frontrunner to work.

Steam locomotives are wonderful machines that are alive and talk to you. Much better than any of the diesels. And they are much easier to run than I originally thought they would be.

Very cool bridge and some beautiful mountains JT! Nice passenger train passing over it and two UNION PACIFIC EMDs pulling a short mixed freight train. Mountains, bridges, and snow always make a good video to me. Awesome view of the passenger and mixed freight train coming from under the bridge! Them EMDs sound so good! Nice to see that firetruck and that UNION PACIFIC passenger car to! Very beautiful scenery with beautiful mountains JT! That is AWESOME! Thanks for sharing!

As big as the Ogden UP yard is we only saw a very small portion of it here. Before the Espee was bought by UP both roads had huge yards in Ogden and the yard was miles long. Todays Ogden is still big but nowhere near what it was at one time. Miles of track have been torn out and there are huge open areas where there once was track. There are still a lot of trains through here but not like when I was a kid watching trains here. I remember seeing all kinds of first generation loco's. GP-30's, GP-9's, Alco's, U boats, Centennials. About the only things I can't say I saw were turbines and U-50's. Maybe I did and just don't remember. Trains 24/7/365.

15:25 mark: You've got to be kidding! Now we have switchmen/yardmen riding ATV's following a cut of cars in order to throw the switch? Flashing lights on engine 589, so must be remote controlled. Now that's playing train. Every 'kid' should have that kind of train set. lol

Very nice video, In WA there are some old GP38s and 50s they mainly switch, load, and others, They even have their own switching zone over in Finley WA, They've mainly been graffitied over, The main runs on UP and CP for going north, I've also been out to Colfax WA and there are some units that load grain to later be put on the main.
