Raw diet is definitely the way to go when you know what you're doing. I don't feed veggies as a main part of Key's diet, but sometimes add some. Dogs don't have the right kind of macerating teeth to break down plant matter, so in order for them to get the nutrients out of it you should blend it first, and you can also slightly steam it. This helps them absorb the nutrients. Their diet should be 80% meat, 10% bone, 5% liver and 5% other excreting organs like kidney, brain, pancreas, spleen, testicles. The liver is an important part of their diet, but should not be more than 5%. Necks are fed as part of their bone content (they're high in bone). Bone should be around 10% of the whole meal. For some dogs they need less and some need more. You're right to start with chicken, a week or two on a bland meat like chicken is best for transitioning. Your bone content may be a bit high with the neck and leg bone. And with no liver. You can check through keeping an eye on their poo. If it's very white, crumbly as it comes out and also if they strain to go, then there's too much bone, and potentially not enough liver. If their poo is very dark and sloppy then it's either not enough bone or too much liver. You may also need to reduce their total food as it's a high protein diet and they can easily gain weight on it. I have to cut Key's meat for him, he'll happily chomp through a neck bone, but prefers his meat to be bitesized, haha. I have a raw feeding poster that I added everything you need to know to, you might find it helpful :) It also has a poo guide for reference, which was the reason I made the poster.

@@SixtyFormula You're welcome, raw is the only diet that works for Key. Some people choose to feed their dog the 80/10/5/5 ratio over the course of the week rather than daily, but it should still equate to the same portions as if you were feeding it daily. For this reason I don't like that way of feeding, and most people do it daily. Too much liver in one go can cause diarrhoea and also they can overdose on vitamin A. And as I said above, too much bone can cause constipation. Feeding the 80/10/5/5 daily is much easier to get the right ratio. My poster also has a chart on how much food to feed daily for the size of your dog, it's generally 2-3% of their ideal body weight.

My German shepherd pup eats 6 cups of kibble a day to maintain a rather skinny appearance, grandma was NOT happy 😆 so I have started him on chicken and now I’ll be moving on to some beef, we go to markets and bulk stores (for the main portions brings 3-5$ items down to 1-2$) and then the regular grocery and dog food stores for extra bits and bobs (like oily fish and berries green foods and eggs)

The first night she did not eat any chicken meat, she ate organs, and the fruit. She wanted the kibble. However I refused to give it to her and she was hungry the next day. We are going to post our day two video tomorrow (which will be about tonight) and spoiler alert, she ate her chicken leg tonight. We switched up her bowl from yesterday, so we will go into detail on it in the next video.

i will give some pointers, when you buy the raw meat , like chicken turkey or whatever meat you buy, you will need to freeze it for 2 to 3 days to kill any unwanted bacteria. And as Healer is not used to chewing the meat and bone, cut it up a little bit to help her get started. and the veggies are fine, add some brown cooked rice on occasion for fibre intake. if you can get it fish oil only 2 table spoons, it really good for their coat, eyes and nails. xxxx

Glad you made the transition to raw! I would suggest adding in some liver to their diet. Gizzards technically is considered a muscle when it comes to raw feeding. Also try not to go overboard with the veggies and fruits 😁 *edit: lastly, remove the skin from the chicken!

Have you ever experienced them not wanting the raw food anymore or becoming VERY picky eaters? If so, how did you overcome that challenge? My 11 month old Siberian husky (Nymeria) is becoming picky and does not want to eat her raw food anymore. I found it weird a few days of her not eating anything and I decided to purchase kibble food and she ate it right up. Any advice or opinions that you can throw my way? Lol thanks

No, what the problem is, is that when your pup swallows RAW bone and kibble, the kibble may push the bone out of your dog undigested. Which is not good.

I think I would put all that in a food processor and feed it to them that way. Break down the bone a bit before processing so it doesn't destroy it but...yeah.

What if I only wanted to feed this to my dog say 1-3 times a month rather than fully transition. Even cheaper ingredients will get too expensive for me. Not mention food for myself. My dogs usually eat wet food but I always try mixing up what I feed them every few days. Would doing this primal pack be okay if only incorporated it in 1-3 times a month.

I am definitely going to be switching to a raw diet for my pups. I’m currently using purina one dog food but wanting to make the switch. My one boy has been having seizures every couple of weeks. Went to the vet. His blood work was fine. It’s crunch time for me to get to the bottom of it. I want to try to cure this rather than prevent it. I feel that a raw diet it the way to go. My other pups seem fine with purina. Healthy coat and everything. His coat is brittle and he chews a lot. I hope this changes everything.

Some sorces say raw food should be for pups over 12 weeks of age,but some have done it earlier and not had any problem. For the kibble some say its fine to keep the kibble but others say its not a good option cause it digests diffrently to raw. Maybe kibble in the moring and raw at night. I saw a websight suggest that.
