You bought an Equaliser (as you stated that you wanted to enhance the frequencies based on a song) A crossover operates as a frequency filter and usually comes in three Chanels ( Front "Hi/mid freq" Rear"Mid/hi Freq" ,Sub"Low freq") to split the audio frequencies in to the right speakers E.G those JBL operate as mid and pioneers as Highs . So a crossover is used to tune the Hertz and prevent the bass from going in to the tweeter so that they don't burn...
