I'm glad I watched this one. When I was a teenager in the '70s, one of my classes included a section on leathercraft. When I tried using the swivel knife, I couldn't make it cut smoothly, and I thought it was entirely my own fault...but now I think about it, was that blade ever cared for? Sharpened? I doubt it. I never tried again, but now I think I shall. Time to dig out the scraps! Before I do that, though, I should remember not to assume that my father's old tools are sharp. It was awfully nice of him to spend so much on tools, so I didn't have to....one of the few things I can thank him for, not that dead men can hear thanks, or anything.

I'd like to see what you think about the Duane Watts design with the fixed yoke and swiveling blade.

I would like to test it. But I haven't managed to see one. It sure sounds interesting.

OMG Leatherworks do you really want a blade that swivels on its own though? sounds hard to control
@omgleatherworks32534 жыл бұрын
@@squintygreeneyes I'm sure it takes some practice and getting used to if you come from a standard swiveling barrel camp but its an interesting concept. If you don't like it, turn it upside down and you're back to normal.

OMG Leatherworks have u tried it? its not about getting use to it, i just dont see the advantage of having the blade on a swivel you cant control

was hoping you would cover the tandy craftool pro. what do you guys think of that knife\blade?
@Rabom4 жыл бұрын
We don't have a local tandy shop here in germany. But I guess the Swivel knife will be absolutely fine. See, the real secret is the blade. And how to sharpen it. Thousands of leathercrafters are using the tandy knife. Buy it...use it and learn to handle it. And after a while, when you really looking for something special ... look out for that leather wrangler knife. But again... there is NOTHING wrong with a tandy swivel. You have to learn to control your knife..doesn't matter what brand. In the video you can see my three knifes. And one of them is s really cheap one. I use it as often as those expensive swivel knifes.

_ Rabom_ i believe you can also order leather wrangler blades made to fit the tandy swivel pro. ill prob do that until i can get a better rig since their steel/heat treat is different and probably a lot better than crafttool’s (tandy brandy) stainless steel

@@squintygreeneyes absolutely correct. As I mentioned in the video (i think) leather Wranglers do sell their blades for other brands to fit.
