Hi Kona, I enjoyed all the variations you've shown on this tutorial. I just wanted to add, if I may, that before I saw this, I made some swivel tabs with my Cricut. I cut them out of cardstock with slightly smaller ones out of patterned paper to glue on top. Also, it seemed like the edges would get ragged with use so I coated each tab front and back with some glue/sealer to protect and stiffen them. I'd never used swivel tabs before your Regions Beyond mini-album, and I like having them as another type of closure to choose from.

Aloha! Thank you for sharing! Tim Holtz "Tiny Tabs and Tags" has a great swing tab die cut that cuts through chipboard. I never have to layer card stock to make them stronger anymore. I wish he had a set of 2 tabs.

Aloha Shelly! I use the Crop-a-Dile Big Bite. It has an 1/8" and 3/16" hole punch. I use the 1/8" one when punching holes for my swing tabs. 😊

Thank you so much, I love all of these ideas! I am new at making albums & look forward to trying these swing tabs. How do you punch a nice hole in the middle of the page for the brad & swing tab? I have a paper piercer but it doesn’t create a nice hole & my hole punches won’t go that far.
@KonaRaven6 жыл бұрын
Amy Braid Aloha! I use a wonderful tool called a Crop-O-Dile. It has a nice long reach so I don’t have to struggle with where I can punch my holes.

Hi Kona. I love all of your videos. All the albums that you make are so beautiful. Sometimes the swing tabs that I make don't hold/close the page properly and the page keeps opening up.I generally make my swing tabs with chipboard. Is there a way to avoid this ? Thank you ❤
@KonaRaven6 жыл бұрын
sania rahman Aloha! Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate them. So what I’ve found about Swing Tabs is this: if you line up the hole of the Swing Tab along the edge that you’re trying to keep closed and mark it, then punch a hole where you marked, you will always have the maximum amount of the Swing Tab over that edge to keep it closed. Where one may work if the edge is a long one then two would be better or just use a larger body Swing Tab. Another thing I’ve found is if the flap you want to keep closed has a gusset (sometimes I include an 1/8” gusset with mine) then small tabs won’t work well because the gusset allows that flap to shift backwards and out from under the Swing Tab. When I have flaps with gussets I use an oversized Swing Tab. All my Swing Tabs are made from chipboard as well. Next to metal turn buttons it’s the best material to create them from. I hope this info helps. Please let me know if you anything is unclear.

Kona Raven I put my swing tabs on the centre the way you did in this tutorial. It works well when the flap isn't too thick but when the flaps are thick it keeps coming off. I've seen one of your videos where you used swing tabs to close your waterfall cards. I tried the same but it did not work 😅.
@KonaRaven6 жыл бұрын
sania rahman Aloha again! Okay when the flap is thick I have started to put them on top of a chipboard circle punch out. I’ve used a scalloped 1/2” circle punch, adhered decorative paper over the scallop, then I punch my center hole where the Swing Tab will attach to. When both pieces are combined just glue the punched circle down.

Kona Raven Thank you so much for the guidance. You are the best ❤

I don’t understand why the pencil mark goes on the flap. It doesn’t seem necessary if the centre is marked on the lower paper.

The only turn buttons i can find on Amazon come with screws rather than brads. Do you have a link?
@ASoulsHeartbeat10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing, is there a reason your tabs swing up from the larger piece instead of down? Just curious. Patti
@KonaRaven10 жыл бұрын
Hi Patti. Swing tabs work by holding the flap down and keeping it from flying up. It's all about resistance. If the swing tabs were put on the small flap and swung down, there is nothing holding the small flap down, the swing tabs have no resistance. The small flap would open up with the swing tabs attached.
@ASoulsHeartbeat10 жыл бұрын
Well DUH! what was I thinking, I must have been on brain overload, of course this is why you do it that way. Thanks for the tutorial, all the ideas and answering my stupid question, lol. Patti

Hello, I've viewed ur video, AWESOME! I have a question? I'm only planning on making one journal,. But I didn't want to go into expense with buying a box of brads. Is there a way to make our own brads?
@KonaRaven2 жыл бұрын
Aloha! I wish there was a way to make my own brads but unfortunately I’ve always had to buy them. I buy a box of 50 and they last me a really long time though. Sorry PJ, I hear you about the expense but for swivel tabs it’s a necessary tool.
