Especially using a realistic situation that actually happens between two siblings. There have been real situations where two siblings are close to each other as family but their relationship were torn apart due to their family, society, or life in general causing them to go against and hate each other when the actual problem wasn’t because of either of them since they didn’t know.

They rewrote the love triangle into a deeply rooted family drama. They kept the Shoji bit from previous episodes and builded an entire terrifying scene from that. Plus, they wote "no ablo niongo" as an actual line, which is the greater achievement.

14:39 The one thing that Kirito and by extension several reactors don't clue it on here is that Suguha just straight-up said, "You're the worst brother ever!", It's like a throwaway moment that goes very under the radar, possibly because she's blubbering when she says it, but she still says it and he doesn't notice or realize. 😅

Something you notice on the series-long rewatch is that during the entire Alfheim arc, shes constantly refering to him as "bro" and "Brother". It's just always done in a light-mannered way that it feels like friends calling each other bro, not literal. I believe it is due to this series-long setup that Kirito has been programmed to ignore the term "brother" for what it really means. He's been conditioned to just assume it's her way of talking to him. Never thinking deeper than that. That's why when he finally figures it out it's because she says his real name, Kazuto. SWE really does a good job with adding depth and reasoning to all of their writing. It's crazy really how many things you notice on rewatch was just setting up the future episodes. Even something as simple as the finale of season 1 when Asuna is making fun of Kirito claiming he will "make a robot for yui in the real world" and basically bullies him into promising he'll do it. Something that is a real thing he is trying to do later during Alicitization. I... really hope these guys keep going long enough to get to that. But it's so far away I can't bring myself to hope to much. Im just looking forward to Alfheims finale, the dedicated Asuna arc (Because shes by far my fav character in the abridged), and then hopefully GGO. If we get that far, I look forward to they're portrayal of Sinnon and showcasing PTSD in a better way than the original. Also... look forward to finally cashing in on a setup from season 1. Rosalia will get her last stab at Kirito when his female avatar happens xD

Its good writing. You can feel for both characters. He got stuck in a freaking death game. The trauma from that would obviously affect how he is with his family once he was out. And then he also immediately had to worry about rescuing his love. But his sister still exists... and you can totally see where she is coming from. Masterclass in writing regardless if its for a fan made parody or not.

So she didn't know Kirito=Kazuto until about this episode in the actual anime. She was in love with her brother but realized that he loved Asuna after he got back from SAO, so she switched her love to Krito. Then she found out it was the same person.

It's likely with the two years kirito was stuck in sword Art online, that he missed the whole internet culture of starting to call the butt "cake". I said it before in another reaction, likely sugo made it so that the room there was more annoying by increasing the amount of pain that you would feel as well as adding the gravity magic in the update. Suguha really sounded like it actually hurt more than she expected.

that was not why their relationship fell apart its stated outright that kozuto pushed her away due to guilt of her picking uo the slack for him quiting kendo and her issue is that she knows its wrong to have a crush on her cousin but cant help it thats why she so releaved when falls for kirito because it represented her moving on but that was shattered when she finds its kazuto

@@TheGreatBackUpVIDEOS pretty sure the original event basically like this : - Kazuto parent die, and he got adopt by uncle and aunt - Kazuto and Suguha though they are brother and sister - Suguha feel in love his brother, like daughter want to marry his father when she's a kid (but later don't to do that) - Kazuto find out they are only siblings and adopted sister from other side family (no blood related, only related in "big family tree" because 1 marrige) - Kazuto feels awkward and distance himself (stop Kendo with her, but it's dumb af depending on age) - Suguha found out Kirito was adopted and she actually can do that - Kazuto still love / care for her (as siblings lol), and she can't really move on - Suguha found out he stop Kendo / distance him self because of "not blood related but still wierd", but her type still his brother (and fall in love to Kirito) - "This" episode

They nailed that ending and the whole relationship for those two. HUGE props to Sugu's VA. Someone probably wrote it already but in short the OG had Sugu crushing on Kazuto but when she goes to the hospital to actually see How he feels about Asuna, she's heartbroken, however she doesn't know that he is Kirito who she also developed feeling for in game and decided to turn her affection to him. Fast forward to the scene at the "Boss Raid" and that's where she realizes who he is because he mentions saving Asuna, and in shock she calls him by name bringing you too that ending scene where she confeses all that and leaves him dumbfounded

30:30 There was some similarities between both scene in the abridge series and official series: Kirito distancing himself from Sugu and dives into gaming where he was truly himself and felt free. Only difference is the motive behind it... Anime: he discovered at 10 years old he wasn't related to anyone in his family, being adopted by his aunt and uncle and cousin after his parents passed away. He felt like he wasn't part of the family and outsider too. But when he returned from SAO, he regret what he did to her and wanted to fix their relationship. This causes Sugu to feel confused but eventually happy then developing small crush on her cousin. For the record it's normal in Japan for cousins to be romantically involved, just not widely accepted here in American...well most states😂 Abridge: he fell in love gaming and like the official series, they had a strict grandfather, which was the pushing point for him to dive into games plus his mother/aunt suggesting at the coding thing. Not realizing that his cousin greatly admire and looked up to him and when he choose gaming, he inadvertently caused their relationship between them to suffer and she was most likely suffered their grandfathers abuse to reclaim that bond and repair their relationship...and possibly protect him like in the official series if his grandfather abused him too

The incest plot was still badly written and stupid especially by making them cousins so that it feels like more normal which still wasn't because they grew up together like siblings. The abridged version handle it much better by making the problems in an brother and sister relationship more relatable for the audience in Japan and in the west because this writing was actually understandable not disgusting which is why I can't stand Japan with their incest and pedophilic plots in animanga because it's creepy and not normal at all

Also to add, in the anime Kirito's sister has a crush on him but when she saw the way he was holding Asuna's hand in the hospital she was heartbroken which caused the scene where she cried on Kirito in the game and as she was trying to move on from her crush on her brother to her new crush on Kirito in the game (she didn't know he was her brother) she then finds out that Kirito in the game is her brother which caused the scene where she logs out crying.

He's not adopted in the abridge, in this version they are actually brother and sister* Also I'm pretty sure the abuse was mostly if not entirely subjected at Suguha in the abridged, they are strongly hinting that the grandfather was simply just very sexist. This would both explain why Kazuto didn't really notice the abuse, as it wasn't directed at him, and Suguha's troubled relationship with femininity ─ she felt forced to man up, anything "girly" was simply not in the cards.

The actual scene went down when Sugoha found that Kazuto was mentioned I must rescue Asuna. He also held her hand in the hospital. When Kirito failed Leafa found out it was her brother. The original was Sugoha was IN LOVE WITH HIM (Incest angle). The Abridged went to the siblings route.

I just finish watching the official then SomethingWitty's version and man...the scene there was dare I say better than the offical! Both Leafa's dub and sub gave outstanding performance and made me teary eye each time I watched them. Yes the incest plot isnt my fav either but you can't deny both actresses put their soul into that moment and delivery. However abridge Leafa, yall that nearly had me cry like i started sobbing... No, they got rid of the cringe incest. In the original, the sister revealed that she knew that they weren’t actually siblings, but cousins, and she had romantic feelings for him. In this, they played it straight, it’s a damaged sibling bond. It’s relatable family problems. Siblings that were once so close, slowly drifted apart with time. The scene honestly made me want to call my sister and tell her how thankful I am for everything she did for me.

You ask why Kirito only sees bad intentions from his sister when we have seen how cruel she is towards him every time they are together outside the game. Outside of the hospital moment and that last scene, we see how she bullies him a lot, and Kirito also talks about how awful she is for seemingly no reason. It seems pretty clear she, as she said, is the problem. She has issues he had no idea about, as we see at the end of this episode. I assume from Kirito's perspective, she suddenly started getting more and more cruel, sometimes after he quit sword training(most likely because of asthma), and went into koding at their moms' suggestion. While from his sister's perspective, she went into sword fighting thinking she could spend time with her beloved brother, only for him to leave. She still chose to stay with the sword and their seemingly quite cruel and sexist grandpa, enduring hardship that was probably avoidable if she had just talked to him. Basically, a big misunderstanding that ruined their past close relationship.

So In the ORIGINAL story, it was about how after finding out he wasn’t actually brother and sister with Suguha but actually cousins, he distanced himself from his family due to having no genetic bond, but after the SAO incident, he regretted this decision and tried to form a bond with Suguha again, leading to her falling for him (common in Japan, questionable at BEST in the US and Canada where I live) It’s a tasteless incest plot line Then ABRIDGED came in with a beautiful story, a story about how Kazuto and Suguha had a close bond as siblings until Kazuto left kendo training from his grandpa, and since his grandpa didn’t care about Suguha succeeding in kendo, he constantly tried to get her to quit, likely through bullying and abuse, but she stuck it out because she hoped Kazuto would come back at some point (finding out he had asthma could actually explain why he quit, matter of fact I can imagine the reconciliation is legit just gonna be him saying he has asthma and legitimately CAN’T DO KENDO) but when she realized he wasn’t coming back, she felt not only abandoned by Kazuto, but that he didn’t care about her, but now he cares about this girl he met in some death game, and it makes her feel like he really doesn’t care about her at all, that it wasn’t his hatred of people as a whole It went from the original being just outright tasteless incest to the abridged giving us a relatable and heartbreaking story of sibling bonds deteriorating over time

It has almost SAOA's level of production value and he has just recently wrapped up the season within 8 episodes, so now is the best possible time to get into it if interested.

The only thing I fear from abridged series is when they make a regular woman character talk like a dude or vice versa. NPC characters are fine but when they take main characters and do that it's jarring and it feels low level abridged. I'll check it out, bt dubs only said that because smart phone in another world abridged did that to one of the characters. It's good otherwise but that choice makes it suck.

In the original kazuto found out he was adopted and kind of withdrew from the family, his aunt who works with computers tried to get him into tech stuff as a way to stay connected but it left suhgu behind. Also in the original this scene played out kinda the same except it was her saying how much she loves him romantically and she hates herself because she fell in love with kirito and realized she betrayed her feelings for kazuto for kirito and felt like she was betraying herself. The abridged series did this episode so much better.

The way I remember original series, it was kinda similar, but it was sister had more of a romantic feelings and overall it was not quite as extreme. tbh I don't quite get it. if she didn't want to do kendo and grandpa didn't want her to do kendo, why did she keep doing it? what is wrong kirito with being bored and abandoning a hobby? I do remember that I used to resent ppl for leaving our mmo guild, but looking back, i think of it as such a stupid behavior. is that it?

​@@georgesmith6218Japanese culture, especially around old traditions and martial arts, is extremely perfectionist and rigid. Her grandfather wanted an heir to his dojo, chose Kazuto, lost him because he had asthma and wasn't that interested anyway, and had to make due with Suguha. Older traditions in Japan have strict gender norms, so their grandfather trained her as hard as he could to try and get her to quit. Suguha took all this punishment and converted it to resentment for her brother for being able to just walk away from it and, in her perception, abandoning her even though there wasn't much he could probably do. But she never voiced those issues to him, instead choosing to ridicule him in an attempt to make herself feel better by taking it out on him. It is his fault for never noticing, but it's equally her fault for never speaking up and actively driving a further wedge between them.

Suzuha was the one stubborn enough to stay despite grandpa's wishes and apparently she thinks she is entitled to have her brother participate in her hobby. Especially knowing that its the finale too... so it'll probably be a longer episode than the others like season 1's finale. Which means more production time... Ugh I can't think about it anymore, my heart. I literally yelled at the screen "YOU CAN'T END IT THERE" when the credits appeared on the screen after the long silence. I was both so upset yet so proud of them for nailing one of the best things in media. Keeping the audience coming back for more.

@@undeathghost5627 saaaame. It was an absolute masterpiece. I'm mildly salty that instead of the extra progress towards 18 we got Smartphone instead...but Smartphone was hilarious so it's only mildly. Kinda sad it's only a one shot. I'd actually love to see more of that become a series (but also them trying to do three series at once would be absolutely insane). These guys are honestly putting out better content than a lot of established studios and writers, and this is "parody" content. As I heard and agree with in one reaction, if SWE has their own animation team and created their own original series, it would probably be one of the best anime releases we've seen in a while. They've come so far in the last 10 years and it's been a wild ride.

So, from the original, Kirito and Suguha aren't brother and sister. He figures this out at an early age, about 10 if I remember correctly. They're cousins. His aunt was his moms sister. When he found out that Suguha wasn't really his sister, he distanced himself. She developed a crush on him after finding out she and him weren't brother and sister while he was trapped in SAO, but this was honestly just her desiring having her brothers attention back after he spent years avoiding her and not being the brother she wanted him to be. I really like how they changed it for the abridged. In the original, as Leafa, she thought Kirito was someone else until she heard him talking about Asuna. So both guys she wanted to be with ended up being the same person

As much as I want to feel sorry for her and say Kazuto is in the wrong here, he really isn't. If you listen to everything she says and everything he has said about his past, she actively chose to stick with Ken-do even YEARS after he showed no interest in it (and couldn't participate in because of asthma), and openly mocked his interest in Coding and Video games to try and get him to get back into Ken-do. She had More then enough chances to make things right, but instead of trying to meet him half way she made it so the only way for their relationship to become good again is if He went to her and that's not how relationships work. After he got out of the game he was Super depressed, the only people who could understand what he was feeling was his friends from the game, but it didn't even look like she TRIED to be there for him, she was literally spending all her time either practicing Ken-do or RPing in that fairy game. She could have spent at least some time trying to help her brother through a horrible time and maybe try to help him plan, but her first instinct is to openly mock everything he loves and even purposefully delay him from rescuing the person he loves at first. He might have started the Divide in their relationship, but it seems like she never made any actual attempt to fix it and has done more then her fair share of making sure it stayed divided. I get it, they are young adults (I think they are 18 at this point in the show, might be wrong there), they will make mistakes, but it seems like she puts ALL the blame on him, when about 75-80% of it lies on her. What she did was the Equivalent of being pissed at your brother for not being able to play Soccer with you anymore after being paralyzed for the waste down, and take all your anger out on him when he decides to do a hobby he can actually do and is skilled in. A Hobby she could have also participated in if she had simply ASKED, the Grandfather didn't want to teach her, she could have stopped at any time and spent time with her brother but she refused because she was Stubborn. She literally put herself in the place to suffer, hoping that her brother would come back to suffer with her, instead of doing what anybody with more then a few brain cells would do. She is incredibly selfish.

Mostly agree, except for one thing. Asthma doesn't mean that you're unable to participate in sports, as long as you're careful about it you can, and the health benefits of doing them help to mitigate symptoms outside of it. I don't know too much about Kendo, but Modern Fencing is one of better sports for people with Asthma as long as you're not fighting ridiculously long bouts, and Kendo does seem to share a lot of the relevant qualities such as being focused on reasonably short bursts of activity.

I think in the original Suguha was romantically interested in Kazuto. But she knew it could never happen. Then she met this cool new guy named Kirito in a game. And she started falling in love with him, moving past Kazuto. Then around this point in the show she learns the truth, that Kirito is Kazuto, and she gets sad again knowing that she just fell in love with the same guy she can never be with. If you ignore the incest and just pretend they’re roommates, the story is a bit more compelling.

Her nervous system is completely connected to the game, so she can't sense anything IRL, remember that test video from the early episodes before they installed the nervous system diversion? The tester was just walking around his house and when someone happened to greet him, he thought he was being attacked in-game and proceeded to beat the shit out of the guy. For full-dive VR like that, any motor or sensory functions beyond what is necessary to continue function have to be blocked or diverted to the game.

So the current theory about how Kazuto and Suguha. As a child, she idolized her brother so she took up kendo with him. Kazuto discovers his asthma and can no longer learn kendo at the level that Grandpa wants to train him and is then forced to stop. No one tells Suguha why he quits. Kazuto discovers that he likes coding and video games so Mom pushes him in that direction. Because of this, the siblings drift apart. Now, while all of this is going on, Grampa is probably pissed because girls can't be heirs, and tries to get her to quit by being an asshole to her. Or is verbally a prick to "toughen her up" for competitions. Because no one tells Suguha that Kazuto CAN'T continue learning Kendo, she feels abandoned by her closest friend and brother. So she tries to get him back into it by pointing out how much fun she is having hoping that he'll see that it's not boring. Unfortunately this pushes him further away because as much as he'd like to join her, it's just not an option for him and he sees this as her mocking his inability. There more he retreats, the more she tries. And the cycle continues to the point that their sibling bond breaks. Now a good sit down conversation and explanation would have solved this long ago but no one ever let Suguha know. Also as we saw in ep 10, Kazuto is still learning how to have meaningful, adult conversations. Do you have two children that lack the ability to communicate stuck in a downward spiral until you get what you see here.

Oh god the rant at the end is night and day compared to the original. In the og up she has the hots for her brother pretty much the whole season , so when she meets a guy that acts like him in a game she starts to fall in love with kirito (game). Fast forward to the hospital scene and breakdown afterwards that’s when she finally starts to get over her brother and gun for kirito. Then comes to find out right after she saves him from the final boss area that he in fact is her brother (no shock really) so she has a mental breakdown and logs off. The original conversation was pretty much her confessing all this to kirito(IRL). She was mad because as soon as she gave up on her brother the guy in game she was falling for was him. If I remember correctly she did mention that she felt left out when kirito got into games and left kendo (with not apparent reason which swe subtlety by mentioning that he has asthma) but it didn’t really go farther than that. SWE somehow corrected one of the most disgusting and boring plot lines in the show and made it engaging, wholesome, and tearjerking. Honestly it’s a shitshow of a plot Also I use the maybe Lucifer line almost daily 😂

The original series, Suguha didn't figure out Kirito's relationship to her brother Kazuto so she was trying to get over her inappropriate feelings for Kazuto by investing emotionally in this Kirito guy. She's not really over Kazuto when she goes to the hospital with him which firmly establishes to her that no, Kazuto isn't a possible romantic option which is why she was balling her eyes out to Kirito when they logged in. Then during this particular episode, Kirito goes into a manic mode because and is calling Asuna's name which clues her in to the reality and it completely breaks her. Kirito finds out, and then the end scene here is her unloading *all* of that shit on her brother. BTW: it's a scene that's simultaneously really annoying and really understandable. Kirito did nothing wrong. Suguha was trying to do the reasonable thing. It's a shitty situation. But there's a lot of understandable anger and pain that Suguha is feeling in that moment and Kirito, who unknowingly and unwittingly caused that pain, inserts himself to try and work it out and it makes her extremely angry at him but, again, he did nothing wrong so it comes across as her blaming him. Which is likely what the writers were doing (sexist creeps that they are) but it's not the most rational interpretation of the scene. It's supposed to be the emotional peak and yet it just highlights how terrible the plot is. (The most rational interpretation of that scene was all that pain and anger needed to go somewhere and it was unloaded in an unhealthy and illogical way. Which is realistic but useless if the point is to create a compelling narrative)

Sword Art Abridged should be the original watch for many newcomers. The actual original is fantastical, but fairly bland and generic especially when it comes to character development and their relationship dynamics. Here you have actual amazing writing getting you invested in the very flawed unlikeable characters who all have their own hopes and dreams, instead of just being background admirers of a boring OP Kirito who's powerful simply because he's the main character.

the man up kendo stuff is acurate to the original sao kirto wuit kendo to do computer stuff and get into tech which led sugaru to have try harder but their is a unsaid but undertone of you know japans sexism the uncle ewanted a male heir to his dojo this made kirito feel kuilty and its stated back in ep 4 pf sao i think , that kirito felt guilty about forcing that responcibility on her and added ontop of learning they are not siblings he pushed her away unable face her

I only read a few comments but people seem to be leaving out an important part, suguha in the offical material, just flat out admits shes fallen in love with him, too his face, she admits that she knows its wrong, and so on. But overall the scene was very distasteful. The abridged handled it in a way that seems way more real, a sister who feels hurt because her brother distanced and disappeared on her, and a brother whos dumb and didnt consider things outside himself

I just realized you said “hey melon it’s guys here”…… I mean now I have to go back through and make sure my hearing isn’t fucked but that’s hilarious. Anyways after watching the abridged series so many times after getting a weird SAO kick but not wanting watch Reki Kawahara’s train wreck I’ve found that maybe Reki should have stuck to his light novel writing instead of scripting the anime which he may or may not have done. That or the light novels were just that poorly written I can’t remember I’m firmly on the SWE train for all my weirdly specific Sword Art Online content needs because their writing is just so good. As someone with a minor access to funding if they wanted to produce their own show instead of abridging I’d totally fund that in a heartbeat.
