So it is true, SAO really is about to end soon. I honestly expected this coming soon I just didn't really want to believe it all that much, discovered the series on 2012 August or somewhere around there and the series has played a major role in my life ever since. I know it sounds really silly but, still this series really did and still does mean a lot to me and many others by the looks of it. I just hope that this series can go out on one final good note before it says goodbye to us all, god i'm tearing up while writing this if i'm being honest lol but, still in the meantime I guess we should enjoy the series before it goes away and *Stay Cool!*

I wouldn't say "soon" so early on. We do not know how long Unital Ring is going to be. And actually, Alicization was supposed to mark the ending of SAO originally. So, think of it like an additional treat :P And Unital Ring does not mean SAO will just stop. We have the games, spin-off series, Progressive re-write, tons of side stories etc. There is always more SAO, it's just that the main series is at the final arc.

There will always be countless additional and spin-off material! Alternative GGO, Alternative Clovers Regret, Girls Ops, Progressive, there are amazing Side Stories like the Ordinal Scale prologue like Hopeful Chant that takes place in Aincrad and OS Epilogue Cordial Chords taking place after the events of OS, and then there is Gameverse, other spin-off games for mobiles, there is too much SAO to be sad at the lack of SAO! Cheer up, SAO will keep going for a long long time! And maybe by that time, you will grow to like Kawahara's other series, Accel World and Isolator!

Volume 21 is titled "Unital Ring 1" so no, it is not yet finished. It is going to be a multi-volume arc. We do not know how long it is going to be though.

Such a thing has never been stated. All we know is, Reki said URIII was almost the midpoint. If we assume URIV is the middle, then that means URVII will be the end, which means it will be 3 volumes shorter than Alicization. But knowing Reki, he'll probably write a bit longer. Still, at the moment, it's blatantly false to claim it will be longer than Alicization.

I do have an idea for a new enemy in Unital Ring. It will be a cyber-terrorist group whose name is the Abridgers. They capture people in VRMMOs & alter their personality completely. Their cover is a video channel named "Super Wimpy Eggheads". (To Gamerturk, this is a revised edition.) Leader: Digrin Bro Second-In-Command: Guyigok General: D(estruction (e)X(treme)Fan619 Technical Dev: Austin Eraptun Subordinates: Rosalia, Laughing Coffin, Sugou, & Death Gun. Despite those people barely doing any "SAO hate promotion" nowadays, I have a bone to pick with every single one of them. Geoff Thew/Mother's Basement is safe since he likes SAO to a certain degree. (Try guessing who are the names hidden within my censors.)

Help a guy out. I'm a bit confused here. I haven't read Vol 19-20 yet because it shows what happened after the war ended but weren't we left with Kirito returning to the underworld along with Asuna and Alice to find a secret room at the Tower they fought Quinella in? With Star king Kirito leading the people into the Mechanical age with Dragon Jets and all those things? How come that this is completely disregarded in this Final Arc? Did i miss something?

hope he does some shenanigans and gives them their actual swords near the end of the arc :D and now with a potential AW character in if they don't get their swords back Idk how (spoilers for AW LN) the symbol of their swords as a program icon in AW will be explained although I still believe since GE is the one that gave it to her he's actually Kirito :D and especially with how he has Matsuoka-san voice him in the AWvsSAO game I'll be in complete shock if it's not him and the lines they exchange AND the game afaik was mostly written by Reki (he included himself as the robot character from the anime in the game, too) god so many possibilities in this new arc it's amazing because there is no WN to spoil everything now :D

Whoa! Some say SAO is really about to end soon but I have to disagree, its not. I watched the series ever since the anime was released and then tracked the whole of the franchise throughout my anime collecting hobby, reading the manga, watching the anime, as well as playing their famed games! Sometimes writers do tend to have a surprise up their hands where they saying that its the end of one thing but at the same time in their mind, its only the beginning, people should not jump to conclusions on whether the series will end once in for all as there will be many arcs to come or begin a new cast of characters introduced and where we see an older version of Kirito and the gang. E.g. we still have several SAO light novels that need the full translation (official via Yen Press), the games, Progressive, the Alteranative Gun Gale Online light novels (maybe a second season if the light novel side tends to be popular), and maybe see a Progressive/Girls Op anime series! However, if it ends, I suppose its the truth... All great series must have a true ending... (except for possibly the Simpsons since they are still going on through season 30 now...) P.S. 6:47 Karen is pretty cute trying to sing... Also, I would love to see sometime the Sword Art Online fan's finest brains who can answer any SAO question...

Aincrad in main Argus servers was deleted. Aincrad in various other back-up servers was not. The New Aincrad in ALO was brought from those servers, as well as Ordinal Scale. The crashed Aincrad is the one from ALO specifically.

First off, welcome, I hope you enjoy your stay here on the channel ^^ There is of course no legally binding contract or anything that is to guarantee that Unital Ring will be the final arc, however, it is based on the only current information that we have. Words of Reki himself. Originally, SAO was to end with Alicization, that was the vision for his story, but he was convinced to write one more arc for the time being (seemingly aiming to tie things into Accel World). His own comment was that he hopes that Unital Ring will be the end of SAO, and that is pretty much Reki saying "I want to end this here" without being too harsh towards Kazuma Miki, his editor (who has a lot of connections and stakes in the business).

In my mind I was thinking, is it possible for the manga to end, but not the anime. It’s very unlikely when I say it out loud but, it’s just a thought. All good things have an end, it's better for something to end if the author wants it to, rather than soullessly being extended as a cash grab. SAO is not a Manga series, it's a Light Novel series by the way. And there is plenty of SAO even if main series comes to an end. SAO Progressive, a floor by floor retelling of Aincrad, SAO Gameverse, Alternative GGO, Alternative Clover's Regret, plenty of side stories for the main canon etc.

Oh, it is absolutely certain that Reki won't be the one finishing Progressive with his current pace. Sure, once the mainline SAO ends with the Unital Ring Arc, he will have more time for it, but then again, he still has Accel World and Isolator too. Either Progressive will speed up in its narrative, or somewhere down the line, he will pass the torch onto someone to complete Progressive.

From Kawahara, yes. But again, Progressive is still going, the final arc seems to be tying into Accel World and we got tons of spin-off material, both canon like AGGO and non-canon like Gameverse to keep SAO going!

I might be the worst fan ever, but this last arc makes me feel concerned. I haven't finished reading Alicization (I think the French translation is toe to toe with the one by Yen Press), but it feels definitely like the most ambitious arc for SAO period. And I'm pretty sure Kawahara said that he thought about this as the last one. So I'm watching this cover... which is gorgeous ! ...but kinda goofy. Alice is a Caith Sith ? Seems a bit out of character. The premice sounds way too similar than some of the previous arcs (back to level one ? Again ?) and the illustrations make me fear a very fanservice oriented story, with all the gang coming back for a last adventure. Or maybe it's the ALO vibe ? I don't know... I'm not saying that it looks terrible (can't judge with so few elements). Actually I have nothing about a little bit of fanservice ! But it's like watching the cover for a side story more than a conclusion. Hopefully, I will be 100% wrong ! And in the worst case scenario, it will still be a nice epilogue. ... and that Argo picture made me Hooked. I'm just a man after all...

From what I heard so far, it is somewhat fanservice-y, with how certain things progress, but I can't comment on it fully, since I cannot read Japanese to read the book myself. But we still do not know the actual "plot" of Unital Ring, there has to be a drive other than "It's a new world! Who knows what it entails!". But it surely is intresting, solely based on the Kamura illustration. If the arc truly ties this into Accel World, then it'll be huge and would act as a nice, lighthearted transition into a new story!

It depends on how you're watching it ! Personnaly I couldn't care less about Accel World. Not that I don't like it ! But I just don't know it. So if you ask me what I would like for a final SAO Arc... a cross-over with A.W won't probably be my answer. Now it also depends on how Kawahara will put everything together and the length of this last arc. So no judgement ! Just concerns. But yeah ! It can definitely turn out to be really cool, even if it less ambitious than Alicization.

So far, Accel World also has over 20+ Volumes of Light Novels, so it wouldn't be surprising that as Reki leaves one of his series to rest, he directs the readers to another one of his very established series. Or rather Miki would want him to as his editor... Reki wanted to end SAO with Alicization in the first place :/

Let's hope Kawahara has enough inspiration for another last arc. And maybe the A.W thing will just be a nice touch, without the need to know the franchise to enjoy it. But yeah... even if I'm always happy with more SAO (for now), I was perfectly fine with Alicization as a conclusion and continue to get my fix with Progressive or to some extent with Alternative GGO. And maybe later, after finishing Progressive, coming back with a new story for the Main Serie would have been nice. I'm sure this "Unital Ring" will be a lot of fun though. But will it be an epic conclusion ? I am wondering.

You know M and Pitohui I find okay. But I have serious problems with liking their characters and the development they went through. LLENN and Fukaziroh were 2 of few characters I liked. This is me coming to certains opinions with that series. I not sure what Mothers Basements by this in his video. To me this kinda badly written since i didn't enjoy this series that much as main series SAO. So SAO main series better for me here.

Well, since SAO is in it's final arc, I do have an idea for a new enemy in Unital Ring. It will be a cyber-terrorist group whose name is the Abridgers. They capture people in VRMMOs & alter their personality completely. Their cover is a video channel named "Super Wimpy Eggheads". (To Gamerturk, this is a revised edition.) Leader: Digrin Bro Second-In-Command: Guyigok General: D(estruction (e)X(treme)Fan619 Technical Dev: Austin Eraptun Subordinates: Rosalia, Laughing Coffin, Sugou, & Death Gun. Despite those people barely doing any "SAO hate promotion" nowadays, I have a bone to pick with every single one of them. Geoff Thew/Mother's Basement is safe since he likes SAO to a certain degree. (Try guessing who are the names hidden within my censors. For "Super Wimpy Eggheads", try using "Laughing Joking Numbnuts" to figure it out & use the intentional misspellings to figure out the true names of the core members of the Abridgers.)

How could SAO have been great? No ALO, no GGO, no other. A direct Aincrad with either 10 Level or 100 Level with a Boss at each 10th Level or so. After that using copies of the dead 4 thousand people to create the AI in Alicization. Yeah, that would have been a great story. Ah and of course Alicization should have had here and there a lot of differences. BTW, I hate Yui.

That sounds like a terrible idea, throwing away the backstories of every character etc... It partially exists, but instead of throwing away a chunk of the story and have a makeshift and random connection that doesn't make sense in the established constraints of the universe as to what NerveGear is and what it's capable of, Progressive novels just expand on Aincrad, without messing up with the rest of the series.

I don't remember Volume 19 and 20, did I miss something? The only thing I remember during my reading with Alicization is up to the epilogue of the final arc of Alicization. I'm wondering if those two volumes are like uhh the arc where Asuna and Kirito stayed behind during the moment where they almost died due to memory and time progress while in STL. Because that's the only part in alicization that I wanna know.
