STORY:
This is a tale of the time before “Lightning Flash” and “The Black Swordsman” were known by those names…
The day that she happened to don the NerveGear, Asuna Yuuki was a third-year middle school student who’d never even touched an online game before. On November 6, 2022, the world’s first VRMMORPG, Sword Art Online, is officially launched. But the players, still euphoric over having logged in, suddenly find themselves trapped inside the game when the Game Master deprives them of any way to log out.
The Game Master then gives them this warning “This may be a game, but it’s not something you play.” If a player dies in-game, they die in the real world.
Hearing this, all of the players panic, and pandemonium reigns. One of those players is Asuna, but despite not yet knowing the rules of this world, she sets off to conquer the floating iron castle, Aincrad, whose peak is too high to be seen.As the days go by in this world where death is never very far away, she has a fateful encounter. Movies typically have a higher budget and thus, better animation..The animation we're seeing is definitely better than in season 1.. Accel World had amazing animation though compared to most of SAO so I guess it could be done.. I wish we would get more of Accel World as well.. It's something that feels incomplete and it deserved a 2nd season.. I want to see it end as in someone reaching level 10/meeting the creator of Brain Burst.. etc..

@@Eyrothath Personally, I'd sacrifice better animation for a more detailed story with potential for multiple seasons, rather than stuffing it into an hour and a half or two hour movie (not sure on the actual length, just guessing here). But I definitely agree on the Accel World bit. Would love to see more of it! I really just want more of both. SAO isn't the greatest anime out there by any stretch if the imagination, but I've always enjoyed the story and the novelty feel to it and have wanted to further explore it on screen.

Foxen Anime has a review of the movie up on his channel as he was invited to an early screening of the movie. It was a spoiler free review but he says there's some drastic changes form the novel and that the new girl Mita and Asuna get all of the screen time while Kirito only gets about 1/3 of screen time and Argo only makes a brief appearance

@@Eyrothath They wasn't sure if people would like SAO that much, so risking into leaving the series at first 10 floors didn't sound so good compared to telling the whole story with more characters and weapons etc. Remember that Anime is for companies no more than a great ad for the merchandising of the series.

They did that because that was literally the amount of content they had to work with. The author had a word limit to work with when making SAO. Can't really blame the anine company on that.

To test bugs. You don’t necessarily good at the game to do that. If you’re a game reviewer, you technically look for the manual and stuff that in it (regardless of games) Also, beta testers aren’t that big of a deal. It’s just that you have high tolerance to work for long hours and by efficient enough to do so. Aside, it’s limited to the game you’re playing(working). Consider you have Sinon is godlike sniper, so technically she’s a vet in term of shooting RPG. It’s really depending on the type of game and how that process work. Btw, Kirito is definitely not a type of guy you would see as a guild leader (and most of those ppl are usually choosing as tank class rather than dps). Asuna is an exception to that since she isn’t a gamer before entering the game. Though, plots likely the same since the original so it’s just adding more context to it. Klein really need his own show now lol.

It's just for the beginning of the movie I'm assuming. It'll focus on Asuna for just a bit but it'll be both her and Kirito once she meets him unless they change how the Progressive novel/manga went as in Progressive we get to see her backstory/school life, and initial experience being stuck in SAO so that's what we're seeing in the trailers but that was all we got and then it starts being in both their POV's If you didn't know, this is gonna be a floor by floor telling of the Aincrad arc with the author aiming to write each individual floor and what happens in each (this movie is only the first floor). Asuna and Kirito will be traveling through these earlier floors together (like floors 25 or so and under) so they'll be together 24/7. Better story than the original and more expanded ideas of how Aincrad works.

Asuna will get more pov and since we are going back to aincrad, we will see the hidden parts on earlier floors that are skipped (or begin to retell) and how they team together before finally reunited when Asuna's already got in KoB

The Aincrad arc was what it was meant to be. It was never about clearing each floor. It was about Kirito remembering moments throughout his time in Aincrad.

@@molduga actually no, the aincrad arc was what it was because Reki wrote it to participate for an award, however he was over the page limit, so he excluded a bunch of stuff, STILL being over the page limit he said "screw it" and posted it as a web novel that got alot of positive feedback and motivated him to expand on the story (the light novels, manga's and anime series we have today) he started writing progressive wich he released the first volume back in 2012 becasue he held a "need" to tell the aincrad story without the insane time skips hence the much loved progressive light novels and manga wich are both still in progress

The first SAO arc was so good, but it was only 14 episodes long, I wish that instead of the other 11 episodes of season 1 being that whole fairy arc that nobody liked as much, they should’ve just had more of the first SAO arc for those extra 11 episodes instead, then we would’ve at least had a whole 25 episodes worth of the first SAO arc, would’ve gave them more room to flesh out the series more as well
