I actually ordered the Auxilla Spatha back in March from Kult of Athena. I'm looking forward to it's arrival.

If you think about it, in a way the people of Eastern Rome/Eastern Europe never really completely walked away from the cut & thrust short sword. In the end they just start carrying the Kinjal short sword in combination with a full sized saber. Which while it technically is not a gladius it ends up being basically the same due to the Kindjal/Qame & the Gladius hispaniensis both ultimately descending from the same sword. Which seems to be the Schythian Acenakes. Dr. Khorasani over at RazmafzarTV has done some good videos on Akenakes btw.

Thanks for the review. As always, Albion swords are very pleasant things, yet almost each piece has its own minor flaws (albeit less so than other premium-level makers).

I genuinely did not know that those kind of swords could have fullers

Great review. Unfortunately, I have also experienced relatively subpar sharpness on both of my Albion Pieces.

Compared to the pieces Purna is making for you, your Albions must seem like butter knives at best.

@@alientude Haha, indeed, The knife included with the eating set for example didn't even need a stropping. It was already cleanly push-cutting through paper like my tanto video.

Would love to put a crazy sharp edge on that blade.

I think it would be a ton of fun to use, even with the currently less than ideal edge...putting a great edge on it would make it even more so!

It is a myth that stock removal and forging yield the same end results of a part. Untrue- forged components yield a higher strength than stock removal parts. This is true for high stress mechanical parts with engine components, springs, and also swords and other industrial blades. I find that this myth that stock removal is the same as forging is mostly perpetuated by sword collectors online who are invested in stock removal blades. Which makes sense, though it still is simply false. There has been, and still is, a strength difference in forged versus stock removal parts, and forging parts is the top choice for high mechanical statistics in the manufacturing industry.

What a nonsense... where do you think the blanks used by Albion do comr from? Do they grow on blank trees? No, they come from a FORGE! Jeez... this is as snobby as sword snobism ever could get...

There's no difference in strength. There's no study or actual evidence that shows forging modern steel makes it stronger than just grinding it.
