I have one of these and it has been the Best filter I have ever used. I have purchased many different ones over the years and I purchased one of these and have not needed to replace it now for over 4 years. You do need to clean it out every 6 months or so, other wise it will keep polluting the tank from the broken down waste it traps. Once cleaned it is good to go for a while again. I use the fine particle filter on mine and the water is crystal clear.

you are supposed to mix the 2 sizes of bio media together
