I was a trucker that went to pozzolan mines where I was loaded with Silica. I got so sick because one day the silos malfunctioned and there was no control to stop the silo tube from releasing the product silica. I unfortunately happened to be inside the silo by the pneumatic trailer to close the top lifld because o was told to do so since it was pouring rain so I had to protect the product from being wet. While closing the top load off out of nowhere a bunch of silica just started to pour right on top of me. This type of work and location ruined my life first because they never trained me properly and never provided any personal protection.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds like a traumatic and unjust situation. If you haven't already, I highly recommend seeking legal advice to explore your options for compensation and justice. Additionally, it's important to prioritize your health and well-being, so I encourage you to seek medical attention if you haven't already done so.

Silica is not the only thing which damage the lungs. Many birds breaders or Pigions get sick from the micro feathers/dust which enters the lungs causing same illness.

Netherlands is cracking down on silica dust misuse. The laws down there are as follows: 1. It is unlawful to process or alter sandstone, because these stones are about 80 to 90 percent silica. 2. It is also unlawful to sandblast on ANYTHING that is 1 percent silica. Violations of that can lead to very severe fines in the Netherlands. 3. Also under the law, the maximum permissible level for personal silica dust exposure is 75 mg/cubic meter, daily. Anything more than that - and your lungs ARE IN BIG TROUBLE! Lung cancer caused by silica dust is known now as pneumocodiosis. Silicosis is as worse as pneumocodiosis, because once silicosis occurs - YOU PAST THE POINT OF NO RETURN AND YOU CANNOT REVERSE THE DAMAGE!!!!!!!!!

CORRECTION - pneumocodiosis is a class of lung diseases that trigger irreversible scarring. Causative agents that cause it include silica, asbestos, and beryllium oxide.

Good video - but the respirator protection set ups are incorrect for silica hazard - a P 100 HE PA filter fitted to a correctly sized and fitted respirator for an individual may only be used if a Portacount fit test is conducted, that validates the protection factor of a particular type of respirator. Check out OSHA information

@dogmutty2
@dogmutty2 3 жыл бұрын
@@tinman6076 no cough, just get winded easy under heavy exercise...but I could just be unfit in that way...chest CT scan showed a small calcified nodule in right upper lobe, but that could be from anything, common...hopefully the cabin air filters did enough to keep me from developing silicosis

Rather than criticise folks add some positive comments, they are trying to get people inform, trying to save lives try helping there are so many people in the work place all over the globe that are working with silica and ignorant to the facts about silica and how it kills people who are just trying to earn a living. Look at the video 7 things you need to know about dust before it kills you.

If someone breaks glass does it release silica?
@linkbond08
@linkbond08 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the particles are usually too big to remain airborne. If you are etching or cutting glass with a diamond wheel that can release glass dust which is more dangerous. Use water on the etching surface or cutting implement.

Are sandstorms dangerous then?
@WilzonTovar
@WilzonTovar 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think so because silica is in higher concentration from man made materials.
@mime2435

Yes they are dangerous. It can haveminerals in the dust that can make you sick. I got asthma from it and later on I worked at a silica mine I was exposed badly one day and now waiting for my body to shut down because of the crystalized silica exposure

We have sand storms sometimes in the arabian peninsula, so no it is not dangerous. Especially talking about natural sand of earth lol as compared to this material. duh.
@SteichenFamily
@SteichenFamily 25 күн бұрын
@@BoNeTaNg Google says beach sand is almost 100% Silica. Sand storms contain roughly 80% Silica in fine grains that can be inhaled. If Silica is dangerous, then sandstorms are the worst form of exposure. Of course this really just shows that Silica isn't all that dangerous.
