whenever people talk about how easy SWTOR is it always hurts my soul. The earlier levels (especially for free to play characters who leveled slower) used to be way more difficult, I'll never understand why they nerfed everything so hard. Great review!

I remember getting clapped as a kid when the game came out on Coruscant and being stuck there. It was much harder when every companion was a set role and you had to rely more on healing items and stims because most classes didn't get healer until later on in the story. It required far more thought than it does today, but also we do so much more damage and are stronger due to exp gains as well, which you can see in the Sith Warrior storyline where there's a fight that takes away your companion and it's still easy and can be done without even relying on medpacs or stims if you're even remotely near the same level as the enemies.

This is still my biggest complaint. I will say that when i do play, i do remove gear until i feel like im a bit underpowered to give myself more of a challenge. Now my second biggest problem is the combat, but thats helped by the combat styles update. But even at that the work is on me to do all that to just enjoy the game so it can get tiring and i stop so the problem isnt fixed. But it does help.

@@nch2004 The fight on Tatooine against the two Jedi without Vette was brutal. I had to throw everything I had into the fight and it was still a close call with under 10% health left. But it was so satisfying to win fights like this. You had to reach out for other players, too for the h2 and h4 quests. I remember one random dude I invited on Dromund Kaas. He played an Inquisitor. We decided to meet on a regulary basis to experience the story together. Back then I had no teamspeak or discord, so we always used the chat system to talk and I had spelling errors all the time, because I was not used to fast writing with the keyboard. And I had a crappy PC at that time and the game used to crash during holo calls, so I skipped those all the time. ^^ You can't bring back memories like this. Now you are steamrolling through everything except for the endgame dungeons. I still come back for the story and to look if they changed one or two old dialoge scenes. I play on the german server and PvP is also dead there. I used to play a lot of starfighter PvP, but now you can list for two hours straight without a single battle popping up, normal PvP has the same problem.

Veteran player here. Most of the things you touched on were pretty accurate. I’m glad to see you went through the game and it’s expansions before making this, as with other reviewers they tend to play for 20 levels and call it the best game they ever played. Which is shockingly oblivious to the real state of the game, in 2024. The content is more than fine for any new player. No complaints here. 1000’s of hours for you to dive into. Newer content? Haha. The passed 3 years they have removed features from the game, and dulled down classes. They have also started banning players for asking about new content updates. They promised a new NiM operation, over 2 years ago and now they refuse to speak on it. They removed DvL bosses and only just now brought them back, and they don’t work anymore and are bugged. They didn’t even bring the actual event back for it, just the bosses themselves which is kinda lame. They removed ranked PvP and opted for a battle pass that gives you terrible rewards. The past 5 updates have been stale daily areas or meaningless romance updates no one asked for. We wanted legacy of the Sith, instead we got a farming event and Malgus being used as “dangly keys” to keep you around. The dev team are a joke and they do not have any intention of growing this game or updating things we actually want. This is actually a huge issue. A new dev team took over a few years back and ever since, the game has gone down hill. Now we see hate speech and violence endorsed by the lead writer and community manager on social media. The community manager has bullied several actual players of the game in Twitter for asking about more story. The game used to be just getting by, especially after KoTET ended. But now they have embraced apathy and welcome content in ignorance.

Hey there Central! I wouldn't call it shocking, because its not their fault, that they don't know the issues if they aren't there yet. Yes, the removing sucks, the dumbing down sucks, the banning sucks a lot, Malgus is amazing... and they still made him suck, farming events and Gal.seasons suck, the "story" "updates" suck. And even as a singleplayer, CRPG enjoyer, and a sucker for a good love interest character, doesn't find these date nights a good thing. You see it once and then its like, thats it? One cutscene which is the same every single time? LAME. And I didn't play any multiplayer part exept for a few dungeons, but I know removing a whole gamemode is nuts! I usually yap in YOUR comment sections, but this made me realise the issues (Which is not a dig at you of course mr. Devoid) Its that for an MMO, the free part is so big, it shades the real issues of the game. The all the things you can pay for (Im looking at u Cartel Market, which I absolutely despise) And of course I have my 2 own personal things against the game, which I still can't forgive. 1) That some companions just don't exist for you, if you play a certain class story(mainly smuggler ones, and Azshara and others.) (during KOTET, KOTFE I mean.) 2) The FKN non-collectable codex entries, but their place is still empty in the codex.... :(

​​@@swcentral EQ1/2 offer over two decades worth of content to play for free. So yeah, other mmos do offer the amount of content and even more, and they still get monthly and yearly expansions too. Tbh, I want to see Star Wars Galaxies return in a refurbished and revamped state. I'd take Swg over Swtor any time. Swtor = BioWare = EA = both have gone downhill and it shows in Swtor and the new Dragonage and their new policy for kernel level anti-cheat.

That depends if the endgame is fun. Operations were fun before the Knights of the Fallen Empire update. Every boss is a breeze to go through and certain classes feel overpowered compared to others. Same applies for PvP. I still remember the days when Dread Fortress and Dread Palace were hard to do even on normal mode.

@@Gooordito I wouldnt say 10 years but there are a lot of "mechanics" that come from the game being broken, some things being written badly, some things working not as intended and you can expoit it which you gotta learn from someone with experience. Honestly most of those 50% normal people miss is just 16 man mode operations where your PC will lag like crazy and most people just say "f this, Im out" and dont bother OR "Master mode operations" with too tanky enemies to care where the operation takes just too much time to complete. The 16 man lag is so bad even the devs acknoledged and 2 newest operations dont even have it.

I really enjoy the combat. When you have everything key-bound and get into a flow, it is very satisfying to me. Getting full Rakata with max Augs and Implants is quite the grind to say that there's no end-game. Especially, the mechanics involved in Master-Mode Operations.

I feel like if you’re getting bored of a game after 1000 hours of playtime, i’d say it’s done it’s job and maybe just maybe it’s time to move on to another game?? MMO’s are so weird cuz like imagine i play a story game and after i complete the good parts i get mad that i have to go back and do all the tedious collectibles for achievements. Point is you don’t have to do the tedious boring parts. I played through all 8 stories and gone through much of the expansions and guild activities, but once i realized i wasn’t having fun anymore and the game was becoming a chore, i knew it was time to move on. But does that really detract from the hundreds of hours i enjoyed the game? MMO’s are the definition of never wanting something to end. Just like TV Shows have a perfect amount of seasons before it gets bad. Sometimes it’s better to know, well you know what I’ve had my fun, time to move on. Instead of ripping on a 15 year old game for becoming stale.

Fair assessment. I got a love / hate relationship with this game. There is a lot here and some of it is really good other things not so much. But I do remember some of the moments of those stories vividly years later, that part worked.

3 planets I absolutely love is Korriban, Dromund Kas and Nar Shaddaa. Still wish they’d expand Korriban, nice little starter zone but yeah something something dark side… (Just editing) Yes always said this, some planets are too big for their own good, always hated Voss even though it had something eerie about it, the other planet is Alderaan even though it was awesome to see it visually considering we only saw it blown up lol Then there’s the worst ever planet for traversing which is Corellia. Part of why I struggle to replay the origin stories past Nar Shaddaa. I dislike the light side starting planets too, but yeah I have wished they put fast travel straight to each story zone just so as a seasoned player you can skip traversing the world. There’s a really fond moment, I can’t remember what it’s tied to story wise, maybe HK-51. Basically it where you go onboard an abandoned ship and it’s got a proper eerie atmosphere, like horror esque reminding me of that alone feeling in KOTOR 2.

'a strange & chilling presence'.... does anyone still do the Dreadful & Hateful 24man hidden entity runs ? hardmode only in 2 operations plus many section-x boss kills, was original L50 content i think.. good fun unlocking it all & going on a few days journey with a larger group than normal... back in those days things like that felt like great acheivments for most players 💪

Very nice review. I played KotOR 1 and 2 first and I still love SWtOR. For me it's like a continuation of those RPGs. And as for an MMO, it's extremely unique with such a strong focus on story and RP element. I'd even say it's one of the best Star Wars games, because I can choose to be a Jedi OR a Sith. For the most part, in SW games you can really only play the good guys.

I've been actively playing swtor for 5 years, I've played almost all the available content (expansions, 7 max geared 343 toons, NiM ops) in the 4th year(2023) I was getting bored of always doing the same thing until I saw a guild doing RP, I gave it a try and I was captivated. Now in my 5th year playing I'm still doing PvE, RPing on various toons, getting cheevos, titles taking the costume/outfit to the limit. This game is far from dying but it needs a group of devs to get it out of the pond it is in. -New races -Enable the use of different weapons in the classes (jugger with dual saber, commando with rifle, assasin with single saber). -Random world events on planets like a krayt dragon attack on tatooine, a gigant wampa attacking on hoth..Just like gw2 -Open World pvp? Guild vs Guild? In conclusion so many ideas that I have seen on reddit and EA has decided to ignore.. Great video btw!

Nice work! OK well reinstalling. It has been so long I forgot what I was aggravated about. lol On the surface always sounds awesome. I think I remember one of the issues people were having was with end game raids not functioning properly. Lags and disconnects. Very intricate boss fights where you would need to be all doing separate things at once to beat a boss, required good communication and such. But fighting stuttering and lag and then wiping teams, well.... I mean I guess that is end game, newer flash points, that are super hard, they nerf the older content for sure once it is played out. But there is also difficulty levels too. I think one of the things that got me was a jumping puzzle thing in an aztec temple thing. Was driving me nutz. I also was pretty upset because sometimes things aren't explained at all or very well. Like the speeder races. That was so frustrating. I think there was a limit on how much you could do per day as well. Events seemed to kind of have that content you were mentioning, like a boss would spawn and you would team up to destroy it. Gree is what came to mind for that. I was working on hoth toward the end. But that huge boss was a lag issue. But like most games it is always a wonder if it is server, internet, routing, computer, connections, etc. OFC game going blame everything but themselves. But then everyone going to blame game so IDK. Will sub and let ya know if I do get back into it. Really wish it had day night cycles. My other main MMO is black desert online and it sets such a high bar on so many things. Makes this experience feel like 2k garbage. Thanks

So i played this game for years from about 2013-2018 all through Middle School to Graduating High School, and I always loved doing content solo. Its a great game for a big star wars fan & RPG fan, but sometimes i wanted to do the group content because half the game is group content like Operations, Flashpoints, etc., and most of them I never did, and since the game barely has a player base anymore, Ill probably never get to do any of that content sadly. The Imperial Agent base story is the best star wars story ever. Sht had me so fucked up that I still say "damn" even a couple years later. The rest of it is pretty downhill but I had fun fuckinng with the in-game economy and hanging out in the Dromuund Kaas General Chat. The Eternal Empire plotline just fell so flat and was so bullsht in some sections. The story fell off. I didn't like any of the other Class Stories that much, but being a Light Side Sith Warrior was fun.

Yes, light side Sith Warrior is one of the funniest thing in the game, next to dark side Jedi Warrior. It often makes no sense but I had the fun of my life messing around with the options.

What I love most about the Agent story is that it's easily the most replayable, because every chapter has like 4 different endings. Plus, it's one of the stories where I feel like every planet I went to linked back to something later in the story, even if it was in just a small way.

As a veteran player, this is a nice review to see and gives some refreshing perspective on my time spent with the game, though I must say... World Events wouldn't work for SWTOR because there are so many abandoned zones. I didn't see CZ-198 or Black Hole once in the video... did you even know they exist? A lot of zones have three or four people in it, which would make raid-like events impractical to code in because they'd always end up in failure. Also, while I can agree that SWTOR does have a nice balance in their combat, I ultimately became disillusioned with the gamplay over time. SWTOR uses the Hero Engine for their game, and that quickly began to feel old even during Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion. I play FFXIV and I recently went back to WoW for TWW, and both feel significantly more fluid to play. I had maybe like five crashes in the 13 years I've played it (on and off, tbf) but it just feels laggy, lacking and terribly outdated. Another issue is that Legacy, while it does provide some buffs, doesn't transfer nearly enough. Valor (your PVP level, so to speak) is still character-specific, but some transmogs are tied to it. I have transmogs on my main that would require grinding to Valor 50 on an alt... and I ain't doing that shit, so I'm disincentivized from ever replaying that particular class or making it's mirror class. SWTOR in general desperately needs a Collections system for transmogs... Finally, the story. I just have to warn anyone reading this that some class stories just won't mesh with you. The Imperial Storylines had far more care put into them than the Republic, and nowhere is that more evident than Imperial Agent vs Smuggler. IA is a vast web of conspiracies that require you to connect the dots and be very careful about who you trust and who you work with, which can actually drastically alter the ending of the storyline. Smuggler, by contrast... is basically T rated Star Wars Rebels.

As an MMO its about middle of the pack. It does have great stories, but once you beat your class story it goes downhill. It feels extremely rushed, like they didnt really try to give it their all when they were designing the story. The endgame is a bit confusing for me. Its not explained very well. Depending on your class, its either extremely easy or somewhat difficult. For instance I have a commando and it doesn't have great damage, making some encounters take longer or I take more damage. Compare that to my inquisitor/sorcerer and its vastly better and easier. The balancing seems a tad too off. As a Star wars game, its easily one of the best of all time. And thats what it is, its a star wars game that is also an MMO. You get loads of interesting stories and choices and it reminds me of KOTOR, just much kess impactful. I'm a wow player since 2007ish, I think earlier. And its wildly different. The combat in WoW v SWTOR isnt even close. SWTOR can feel good but after WoW it feels so rigid and empty. Even if you compare it to FFXIV its not as good. Both FFXIV and SWTOR are chunky in combat and stiff, but very flashy. In FFXIV its flashy in a good way, not masking the impact of your moves but emphasizing your moves. In SWTOR it feels bolted on and doesnt really show the impact of your moves. Its difficult to explain, but the flashiness of your moves doesnt indicate the impact they make in combat. Interrupts in SWTOR seem less necessary than WoW which is nice but then it makes me wonder why its present.

PVP and co-op are basically dead due to a lack of players, and if you want to move your character to a more populated server, you guessed it, it costs $10 per character. Not to mention, the personal money cap for free-to-play (F2P) players is set at 1 million. Back in the day, that wouldn't have been much of a problem, but with in-game inflation, 1 million is more or less worthless. What happens if you hit the 1 million cap? Yes, you still earn money, but it gets stored in a separate bank called Escrow. And if you want to withdraw it, you have to pay real money. This game makes you feel like an IRS prime target. Honestly, with the cost of a one-month subscription, you could buy a genuinely good game.

@@fidalf99 you cant carry more than a million credits (as a preferred player!), you earn less xp, you cant even participate in the endgame content because youncant carry artifact level equipment, etc etc. They game really fucks you over if you dont have a subscription. And I'm talking from the viewpoint of a preferred player - aka you paid money once already. F2P is even worse. The basic class stories can be enjoyed without subscription, thats correct. But dont expect to play much at the higher levels

I've been playing this game off and on since it launched... SWTOR has several fabulous single player stories in it... but the story gets worse and worse as you go on past the separate class specific ones. Its not really a good multiplayer game. The multiplayer content is rather bland really, especially when compared to the excellent solo campaigns. Hard to really be an MMO when your only multiplayer part is endgame and wandering past people while doing your class missions. Then... there's the combat system... ugh. it used to be challenging and engaging, but now... you can sleepwalk through practically all of the combat till you get to endgame raids. This leads to a ridiculous learning curve where people who didn't need to learn their roles for 20+ hours of content suddenly need to be optimized in both skills and gear, and to pay attention. It always makes me laugh when DPS who don't even know enough to stand outside the flashing red circle or that pulling mobs while the tank is busy with the last one, start raging at me for not being able to heal them fast enough. (I generally play sage, and was one of the top healers back 10+ years ago) People shouting "the healer sucks!!" while they have gear from 20 levels ago and are standing in the middle or 2 enemy aoes of the 3 mobs they pulled early, is both hilarious and infuriating. I really do miss the days where the combat needed actual skill and knowledge, and when you had actual choices to make while working on your build. Example, you used to be able to pull skills from multiple trees of the same general class... You could have a few healing skills while being a dps sage, for example. I loved to min/max my skills to focus on a specific thing, for me it was picking up several different aoe skills from different trees in order to be the mob clearer for the team, or picking several defensive and cc skills in order to cause pvp rage (lol). This sort of thing is probably why they took that out. The combat style thing made me so happy when it came out... though, like you, I was hoping to combine styles. The reason I love it so much is that I favor sage for combat, but it may have the driest story of all the classes. So, being able to go back in with a new character again while playing as a sage but with a different story line.. its magic. The story and characters are the highlight of the game, by far. Its reminiscent of the bioware of yesteryears. The combat systems themselves are solid, though the actual combat itself is far too easy in most cases... except where its randomly extremely difficult or reliant on odd, unintuitive "puzzles". Endgame? its a few "dungeons", and a lot of grinding for gear/currencies.

I actively avoided the game for 8 year because I wanted KotoR 3, and a dedicated ending to the Revan storyline, and from all I had heard swtor did him (and HK-47) dirty. In the end I gave in and have been playing off and on for the last 5 years. I'll always have a tinge of sadness that this is as close to an end as we'll get for Revan, who is possibly the greatest SW character ever, but if I look past that and the underwhelming 7.0 update I can enjoy the game for what it is, a better than most SW game.

SWTOR character customisation is absolutely amazing in comparison to let's say World of Warcraft. I wish more games followed that model.

I wasted hours with character creations. I it so fun to create somebody and imagening his backstory while doing so. One time I wanted to try out RP, when SWtoR still had different servers, so I created a Cyborg Sith Warrior with a burned face, a mechanical eye on the most burned side, a violett like dark side teint and I brought him on the first dark side level to get the yellow eyes and then I threw myself into the abyss of RP. There were some really weird things going on in many RP groups but some of them were really fun. I even got praised by one the the players for my character look which I was very proud of. ^^

The game is not a money cow it made 1B over its life time others makes that faster and with no high investment to voice all this dialogs it self is realy expensive

I preordered the game and played on release, quit very soon just like everybody else, and guess what, when I tried getting my old account back they told me they deleted it when the game went f2p and I -missed out- on keeping it. I dislike those thieves
