I want purple for my sorceress. It's the only color you can't get automatically for your character. The remaining colors come with a certain class, and yellow is default.

The starter lightsabers you get at the end of the Jedi and Sith tutorial planet isn't character bound but instead Legacy bound so you can use it to store and transfer any crystals you want to other characters. Makes giving red crystals to Jedi and blue crystals to Sith much easier.

If you have trouble finding basic purple crystals to go with your Revan armor, you can extract one from Empress Acina's lightsaber in the second chapter of KOTET.

While the artifact authorization is an expensive market item, it's actually worth the money if you're a "preferred status" player like I am. I'm not really big on group content or operations, but having artifact armor for all the expansion packs and some of the harder flashpoints is actually really helpful!

I picked up some Cartel crystals from the GTN for relatively cheap (sub 100k). As long as you don't mind apparently unpopular colours like pink and gold it then only costs you 60 cartel coins to unlock it for your account. Sure, my colour palette is limited until I get my artifice crafter levelled, but my Sith warrior never looked more fabulous. Now I just need some armour dye to match...

Interesting fact : crafted crystals can be equiped at level 1, if you happen to have some in legacy bank. They used to have incremental level requirements (ie +27 required level 47 back in the day) but those were removed a few years ago. Cartel crystals require level 10.

As a super cheapo alternative, if you let go of bonuses you can pick an inexpensive weapon (loot, GTN, vendors) and take out its crystal. Most of the time it's orange, but some are red or yellow. edit : oh you mentioned it

Also if you buy a cartel market crystal, you have the option of using some cartel coins to make that crystal usable by all your characters.

The green Darksaber ones from the Rakghoul event are probably my favorite color crystals by far (even if they don't really make much sense), been a staple of my Jedi Sentinel ever since I first picked one up! Apparently you could get something similar for your "collections" tab (which must be nice) if you bought some kind of special keyboard and I've also seen some black bladed crystals with blue and red outlines you can pick up off the GTN. Not sure if there's a regular Darksaber crystal though... Another one I really like is that blue blade with a yellowish core, since it kinda reminds me of the OT ...Lightsaber colors in SWTOR can get kinda crazy and outlandish at times, some of 'em even have *multiple* outer colors. A pretty common one on the GTN is a pink blade with a yellow core I've affectionately dubbed "pink lemonade". There's a lot of neat options for saber colors if you look!

thank youuuu! i got this game a week ago and im loving the ability to cut between light side dark side renegade etc. the 8th and final character finally gets her lightsaber, assembles it, turns it on and its blue but not doublesided(female super good darth maul type for context). thats ok its probably just the cutscene. turn on the lightsaber, now its doublesided but green. did not see that coming. cut to 1 hr later, my jedi owns 30 crafting 'blue color crystals' and my smuggler is on tattoine with a character-bound blue modification crystal -_- anyways, subscribed. thanks for the info!

Another tactic for getting different colors is to toss these items from the game character to another using "your estate". for example, if you want to be a Jedi knight with a red sword, simply send him a "weapon" of the desired color in a shared repository in the "mansion" from the sith. or vice versa . I don't know if it's fixed, but the crystals can't be shared in the "estate", the objects from which you pull the crystal out, yes. it's a smaller hole in the system to share crystals between characters.

A *METHOD to Store Artifact Authorization Crystals without taking up Storage-Locker Slots...* Before your subscription expires, bind crystals to your character & put them away in a Companion's weapon so you can always take it out and equip it for yourself later without sacrificing the limited slots you have available in your storage locker. I think after something is bound to your charachter you can always equip it later....But my sub has yet to expire so I have not tested this

I bought the Advanced Lime-Green War Hero's Crystal in the GTN for 40,000, super lucky and cool color since green is my Fav colour. it's actually gotten better over time. when it first launched you had to buy the game, buy each subsequent expansion, and sub to the game, and buy cartel market things separately. now if you sub once you basically get access to everything and you get the original stories all free. it's basically just sub if you wanna really invest into the endgame and min-maxing but the regular game and stories come at like no cost

If you don't want to get purple bordered crystals when you search on the GTN you can specify the rarity to "prototype". It won't give you purple bordered items if you do that.

WRONG!!! F2P and preferred players can also use the purple ones crystals with stats +41. And yes - i'm talking not about color, in case you thinking about it. Because there are two types of purple ones. The ones that glowing like on 3:11-3:13 (in this case their color also purple, but its not the point) can be used by anyone, and the ones that's not glowing like on 2:54 can be used only by subscribers because they need artifact authorisation. I know this because while i'm started playing only recently, on my first character i played as F2P until KOTFE, but since chapter 2 of my jedi origin storyline i already used 2 purple +41 critical crystals with purple color (i just like purple ones more)... And yes - i bought them on GTN... And right now as preferred player i recently bought even better +41 pink one with dark blue (almost black one) center. But of course the price is pretty hi - around 750k-1mil and more... Purple one with black center would be better and i saw them on GTN but the price was more than 1mil and i can't buy it as preferred player since i can't buy any thing with the price more than 1mil ((((... But the pink one is still ok, for now at least... I even had a lucky moment when after one of the missions it gave me green crystal with +41 endurance and i could use it but since i'm not playing as tank, i just sold it with other trash to a vendor...

I don't think I've ever seen a game punish its free to play players as much as this game does. You need to be level 10 just to use sprint if you're free to play. I don't have a lot of experience with MMO's but the restrictions they put on non subscribers seems ridiculous to me.

I really don't get selling basic crystals for so much. Whenever I happen upon them (you can get them for certain story rewards, for example, and they're not bound), I put them in GTN for a few thousand and keep it moving. I like to think I'm helping out newer players rather than hindering their ability to enjoy the game. Also, and I'm not 100% on this, but the 600+ Artifice crystal recipes - I'm not sure if those are artifact-gated or not. Of course, they're not very pretty, but eh.

This is good timkng for me like everyone else. As I've been preferred for years. And my guildmate crafted me two crystals to use at 70, and I haven't had the heart yet to tell him I can't equip them. I'm glad I have non artifact options. I'm sure they'll just get you by. And I'll still have to sub one day if I really do want to upgrade gear and do operations for some sort of endgame content. Also there is a magenta that doesn't require artifact authorization. I really forget where I got it. Maybe it was an old crafted one before they got changed or something.

Fantastic coverage of, as you said, a lot of odd issues related to artifact authorization and color crystals. I could not agree more; unless you just have to use a certain color and want a crystal before level 10, the "Advanced White-Purple-Blue" & "Advanced White-Yellow-Orange" crystals are the way to go for non-subscribers. If you must have a color other than the above two before level 10, you can search the GTN for your color and either 'Resonating'(power) or 'Lethal'(critical). For example, searching for "Blue Resonating" should return only the blue +27 power crystals. If you're already level 10, those cartel market crystals offer variety that ought to satisfy anyone, provide the full +41 bonus, and can often be had for not *that* much more than other options. Intuitively, searching the GTN with "Usable by: Me" selected ought to exclude items you cannot use at the time of search, but the mechanism does not seem to take artifact authorization into account. If you plan to create characters across multiple servers, and as free-to-play you'll need to do so in order to experience all the class stories, spending 60 cartel coins for an account unlock of a cartel market crystal, like a Farmhand Blue, may still be a practical option, even if you can't use them until level 10. I realize 60 cartel coins is a lot for a free-to-play player, but I can't imagine anything else that provides that kind of bang for the buck. Or should that be clang for the coin? If you're preferred, spending those 60 cartel coins for the unlock makes even more sense. For more info on this subject, Swtorista also has a fine guide on the collections system.

If you buy a crystal you can't equip, it's not usually that big of a deal since you can sell it. The account unlock costs Cartel Coins, which are precious if you are free-to-play, so choosing wisely is important. Am I making sense so far?

I'm personally fond of stealing Acina's crystal during chapter 2 of kotet then putting it in a legacy bound saber and sending it to my lower level alts. Obviously only works for preferred, but that's one way to get a purple saber "like Mace Windu" :)

This is my personal experience that I passed on some F2P players last night asking about this (it comes up a lot in chat actually) Join a guild. Most guilds (bigger ones at least) will have a buttload of GTN color crystals available in the Guild bank. These will be in all sorts of colors. The only down side is most are going to be Power or Mastery instead of the one you really want, Crit.. As Crit is the go to crystal in sync'd gameplay. I've been in and indeed I'm still in several guilds. This seems to be the case in nearly every single one I've ever been in. Edit: Don't be greedy though! Take one you like after asking and don't leave the guild right after. That's just poor form. Being in a guild is generally a good thing anyway.

It's a pain in the ass, but you can get 2 purple eviscerating +36 crit, level 50 required crystals after doing HK-51s quest. The gun he comes equipped with, and the one in his outdated gear package have them.

On the GTN, the credit price is set by players. So it's whatever they want to price it at - supply and demand. On the Cartel Market for cartel coins, they give the same stat boost, it's just whatever the developers felt was a fair price for the color.

Honestly, i'm feeling kind of disappointing when i found out that game did not include any other lisghtsaber cores, such as the Dragon Peral or Ghostfire white crystal. in my opinion, there should be more varities to lightsaber cores that are from canon and legends, not only because they are the coolest to know about, but also more engaging to discover. You go to said planets, just to discover a planet-exclusive crystal/ingots/gemstones and you'd get these special attacks when equipped...Oh, having the Frost-type cyan lightsaber would be so much awesome, since it frezes things instead of melting them, or having the Mustafar lava-spewing orange crystal, that kind of stuff.

1) Yes. Subscribers get to equip items of any rank. 2) Depends if the crystal is bound to you or your legacy. A crystal can be use by the same character on different weapons though.

Ok. Thank you. I THINK I know what my problem is. I have a Jedi. He's only level 10, and I haven't FINISHED Tython just yet. I have a Few crystals. They all have a green border. I tried to switch them out, and it simply wouldn't let me. The ONLY crystal it would accept, was it's original.

Once a Character gets to Lv 7 they can use the Shuttle at the starter planet's Spaceport/Landing Pad to visit fleet. Before Leaving the starter planet i'll grab the Heroics from Console/Terminal near the shuttle. Typically, as soon as my char is Lv 7 & has an XP Boost running, i hit Fleet, do the Crafting Skills Mission from the Console/Terminal & get Fleet's Two Lore Objects. After the Crafting Skills Mission & Fleet's Two Lore Objects, i return to the shuttle hangar for the two starter planets, then take the shuttle for the other class' planet. There i'll farm XP from everything! When done with that planet i use the FREE SHUTTLE FOR MY STARTER PLANET'S HEROICS. Yummy XP Buffet! Then finish my char's starter planet!

It doesn't matter what crystal you chose. The rest of your gear will have a much bigger impact but from my experience most seem to think +41 Critical, or Mastery if you can't get Crit, is superior to Endurance and Power crystals.

only critical works on planets due to level sync (level sync brings down mastery and endurance to a limit, but leaves crit alone). Mastery and endurance ones only work in flashpoints, pvp, and endgame.

sure can. buying a gtn crystals on the gtn will actually give you the "free copies" from collections the same as if you bought it form the cartel market instead. just make sure the gtn crystal does not require artifact auth

From what I understand you can continue equipping something you had equipped before. But I've gotten lots of conflicting reports about whether you can safely unequip it

Even if you've used an artifact crystal in a weapon before while subbed you cannot pull new crystals out of Collections and place them in new weapons unless you have Artifact Authorization or sub. If I recall correctly you can pull the artifact crystal from a previous authorization but you can only place it in one other weapon. once you place it in that new weapon it's basically reset and if you remove it you won't be able to use it anymore. But, don't take my word for it without double checking.
