I was thinking when Bunchy was saying that she felt sad when she poured the hot water over the flowers, really she is just giving those flowers an exteneded life. Now their color can live on for so much longer in the yarn that she is dyeing. Flowers are here today and gone tomorrow, but the dyed wool will last for ever so much longer. And if the flowers could feel or think, how happy they would be knowing that their beauty is continuing to bring joy to others long after they would have faded from memory if not for Bunchy's work and love.

Hello Bunchy from vancouver island, in Canada. I was so pleased to see someone talking about woad I have been growing it here in my garden and dyeing with it . I love it and cant wait till its time to make a woad dye pot again. I am also drying lichen from the fallen branches this winter, it dries very well and hope I am successful at getting some beautiful pinks and purples this summer. I have four sheep and so adequate fleece to spin and dye with. Your dye garden is so inspiring. please take care and thank you for your video.

How fun, so many plants that give us great colors. I’ve used the outer green walnut shell (the stinky part) as a dye, when combined with an indigo over dye= a deep rich mossy green. Hollyhock petals dye true to their color, coreopsis tinctoria (corn marigold) dyes yellow, with an iron mordant gives a rich brown. So much to learn, I would love to take a workshop with Bunchy.

This was such a wonderful video! I really enjoyed hearing how you first became interested in natural dying (beets do make a beautiful color)! Nature's generosity always astonishes me, and I love the sense of gratitude you brought to sharing the plants, the dyes you can create, and the marvelous end results. Thank you!

Donna Smith has beautiful naturally-dyed yarns. I am in love with it. I wish I had time and room to experiment with natural dyes; but my other two hobbies (painting and knitting) already take up most of my spare time. So I'll just enjoy other people's yarn :)

You are absolutely brilliant and inspiring and a true artist! I'm watching from Canada and getting back k to the pins after a career in education..this puts me in touch with my roots and I hope the Shetland community truly appreciates the hours and dedication to have to this artform Bunchy. Your studio is cozy and I am wondering if you are associated with any museums or universities that research Fibre and textile history? You are a wise woman..so inspired watching this as our leaves in Ontario fall and I wonder what would happen if I died those rich fall colours. Thank you !!
