Lyrics: Trip to heave and ho Up down, to and fro' You have no word Trip, trip to a dream dragon Hide your wings in a ghost tower Sails cackling at every plate we break Was cracked by scattered needles The little minute gong Coughs and clears his throat Madam you see before you stand Hey ho, never be still The old original favorite grand Grasshoppers green Herbarian band And the tune they play is "In Us Confide" So trip to heave and ho Up down, to and fro' You have no word Please, leave us here Close our eyes to the octopus ride Isn't it good to be lost in the wood? Isn't it bad so quiet there, in the wood? Meant even less to me than I thought With a honey plough of yellow prickly seeds Clover honey pots and mystic shining feed The madcap laughed at the man on the border Hey ho, huff the Talbot The winds they blew and the leaves did wag They'll never put me in their bag The raging seas will always seep So high you go, so low you creep The wind it blows in tropical heat The drones they throng on mossy seats The squeaking door will always squeak Two up, two down we'll never meet Please, leave us here Close our eyes to the octopus ride Please, leave us here Close our eyes to the octopus ride

"Grasshoppers Green Herbarian band and the tune they play is ‘In Us Confide’" "Barrett reverts from Newbolt’s lines to his own choice of song at this point, the mysterious ‘In Us Confide’: presumably a song he connects with the fairground, where the traditional musical accompaniment came from the steam organ, often reproducing the sound of a Bavarian ‘oompah’ band. To add conjecture to this presumption: a candidate for the title ‘In Us Confide’ is the hymn ‘A Mighty Fortress is our God’, which was written by Martin Luther, inspired by Psalm 46. The second verse begins ‘Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing’. 'Luther’s Hymn Book spread across Europe, as had his bible. ‘Mighty Fortress’ became the ‘national hymn of German Protestantism’ and kept its place in the hearts and repertoires of church choirs of all denominations.'"

it thought the lyric was' the mad cat laughed....' and Gilmour misheard it as 'the madcap laughs' , so syd named the album that?
@raksosalado51336 жыл бұрын
the "madcap" is the "popular syd's name", i don't think that he said mad cat.

I would say it depends on the depth you wish to go. It's a metaphor obviously and at it's first level it's the fairground ride but he may well be comparing that to how he sees life. I think we should take from the song what works best for us. Given time the truth contained within his work seems to penetrate the soul, in a good way. For me he was a good bloke.

Syd Barrett is credited for forming the classic rock sound, with The Beatles, and Brian Jones who was also mentally ill like Barrett. See Emily Play, Rubber Soul, and Pet Sounds.
@Sandwich134555 жыл бұрын
Mr Barrett wasn't mad!Rodger waters talks a lot of nonsense,and kicked Syd out of his own band.he later tried doing the same with the remaining 3 members but a judge told him he wasn't Mr pink Floyd and Syd had named the band.so in a way Syd had the last laugh.
