@@cono4949Found these comments; 1 Experimental music is, of course, a musical genre. Still, the genre seems to fit somewhat uncomfortably within the music industry as a whole ... 2 Experimental music is an umbrella label for a diverse array of contemporary music, from classical and jazz to electronic music. 3 Experimental music consciously deviates from established musical norms (of a particular genre, or of music in general). Music of almost any genre can be considered experimental - but the term is often associated with the more abstract and challenging strains of electronic music, jazz, and rock.

@SomnambulistInternationale having read the other comments, it seems it might be Ayers, Ratledge and Wyatt, which seems reasonable. There's a full drumkit there.
@SomnambulistInternationale Жыл бұрын
@@DM-hh7wl That seems to be the consensus opinion. However, they all deny it. By their own accounts Syd approached them after a gig at the 100 Club (27 March 1969) and they came down to EMI for just one day (3rd May) for 'Love You', 'No Good Trying', 'Clowns & Jugglers'. That was a whole year later. Jerry Shirley & Willie Wilson who play on 'No Man's Land' & 'Here I Go' (17 April) also deny being the musicians on 'Ramadan'. It's most likely Steve Peregrin Took (Tyrannosaurus Rex) on congas. You'd think that, after all this time, someone would step up & say "That's me!" Maybe whoever it was was just too stoned to remember,
@DM-hh7wl Жыл бұрын
@SomnambulistInternationale Hmm that's interesting. I doubt Ratledge would forget, he seems pretty straight, even back then. And Wyatt was more of a drinker, he seems to remember stuff well. Are there definitely congas there? I was listening to the whole rather than parts, but I didn't notice any. The drumkit was being played mostly on the toms which can sound conga-like. I read an interview with Jerry Shirley recently, he discussed the final gigs, but iirc didn't mention recording in 68.
@albaker4827 Жыл бұрын
@@DM-hh7wl Jerry Shirley & Willie Wilson play backing on one of the early Malcolm Jones sessions in April '69, not the Pete Jenner sessions from '68. I believe they are congas not tom-toms. I can't be sure, I'm no musician. But I hear percussion, cymbal, bass, guitar, piano & mellotron. It's still a mystery who is playing what. Some people think that Syd is playing Everything! He does play guitar, bass & mellotron on Swan Lee but this seems so much looser in structure it has to be a jam. The original session just has percussion, cymbal, guitar & piano. 2 weeks after Ramadan was recorded there were bass, mellotron & organ overdubs, with 3 session musicians listed but not named beyond the drummer noted as receiving double payment 'to cover last weeks session'.
