Syd was miles ahead of his time. He was one of the most influential musicians of the 60‘s. In this composition you can hear which is the path which he would have taken. He will never be forgotten.

@@Qwacked8999He was definitely on the edge of schizophrenia according to people who were very close to him such as Roger Waters. He even talks about it on the Joe Rogan Experience. Syd was a genius and incredibly creative, but mental disorders are no laughing matter and unfortunately he seemed to have fallen victim to something of that nature, causing his break from Pink Floyd and eventual reclusion from the world as he lived out his final years. Such a beautiful yet sad story.

@@cono4949Found these comments; 1 Experimental music is, of course, a musical genre. Still, the genre seems to fit somewhat uncomfortably within the music industry as a whole ... 2 Experimental music is an umbrella label for a diverse array of contemporary music, from classical and jazz to electronic music. 3 Experimental music consciously deviates from established musical norms (of a particular genre, or of music in general). Music of almost any genre can be considered experimental - but the term is often associated with the more abstract and challenging strains of electronic music, jazz, and rock.

@@DM-hh7wl That seems to be the consensus opinion. However, they all deny it. By their own accounts Syd approached them after a gig at the 100 Club (27 March 1969) and they came down to EMI for just one day (3rd May) for 'Love You', 'No Good Trying', 'Clowns & Jugglers'. That was a whole year later. Jerry Shirley & Willie Wilson who play on 'No Man's Land' & 'Here I Go' (17 April) also deny being the musicians on 'Ramadan'. It's most likely Steve Peregrin Took (Tyrannosaurus Rex) on congas. You'd think that, after all this time, someone would step up & say "That's me!" Maybe whoever it was was just too stoned to remember,
@DM-hh7wl
@DM-hh7wl Жыл бұрын
@SomnambulistInternationale Hmm that's interesting. I doubt Ratledge would forget, he seems pretty straight, even back then. And Wyatt was more of a drinker, he seems to remember stuff well. Are there definitely congas there? I was listening to the whole rather than parts, but I didn't notice any. The drumkit was being played mostly on the toms which can sound conga-like. I read an interview with Jerry Shirley recently, he discussed the final gigs, but iirc didn't mention recording in 68.
@albaker4827
@albaker4827 Жыл бұрын
@@DM-hh7wl Jerry Shirley & Willie Wilson play backing on one of the early Malcolm Jones sessions in April '69, not the Pete Jenner sessions from '68. I believe they are congas not tom-toms. I can't be sure, I'm no musician. But I hear percussion, cymbal, bass, guitar, piano & mellotron. It's still a mystery who is playing what. Some people think that Syd is playing Everything! He does play guitar, bass & mellotron on Swan Lee but this seems so much looser in structure it has to be a jam. The original session just has percussion, cymbal, guitar & piano. 2 weeks after Ramadan was recorded there were bass, mellotron & organ overdubs, with 3 session musicians listed but not named beyond the drummer noted as receiving double payment 'to cover last weeks session'. All that you can glean from 'Random Precision' by David Parker.

Syd replaced door handles (at his moms house) with toys. When Floyd's band members finally got Syd to see a doctor 'shrink'. At the end of meeting Syd says to the doctor,'' But don't you think this is,"Syd's problem"? LMAO!! As if Syd was different person.

The stomach is empty in the day, and then filled at night. Which is the effort to retrieve the soul from the north. That, has with it inspiration and perhaps the hope of visitation. The clear thought purging and sobriety. it is not always interpreted so, but logically a good time for innovative music.

@@robyn051 Incorrect. I have since found out that the band accompanying Syd here are the Soft Machine. So it may be Kevin Ayers (with whom Syd collaborated several times, post-Floyd), or it may be the bassist who replaced Ayers, whose name escapes me.

Sorry. I do not recall any information on the download link from the official CD. I believe I just plugged in the URL and maybe a password code and was asked where to save the download. I am not so sure it was Pink Floyd members on this. Syd seemed to have surrounded himself with many musically talented friends. Unfortunately we may never know. There's talk of Glen Sweeney on drums. From the band, Third Ear Band. Cannot confirm.

... And I wouldn’t be surprised if Stephen Ross Porter aka Steve Peregrin Took aka “Tookie” aka “Shagrat” also played Electric bass guitar on this as well... In Tyrannosaurus Rex, Tookie also played bongos, African talking drums, tabla, finger cymbals, maracas, tambourine, kazoo, pixiphone... IN ADDITION to electric bass as well.

Syd's adventure into free form trippyness? It's been said the he did all the instruments while someone else is on drums/conga's. Definitely an experiment and I am glad it was captured to tape.

@@BlindSniperz There's no way Barrett played all or most of the instruments. For one thing, the bass guitar doesn't sound like Barrett's style, and I doubt Barrett had the chops to do those bass lines in the first place. The same can be said of the piano playing.
@BlindSniperz
@BlindSniperz 2 жыл бұрын
@@Videosop23 Maybe so... hence the "it's been said". Kind of wish the remaining members or even EMI studio people would lay down the facts behind this. I had a guy denying that Syd was even on this. Guess he didn't read where I got this download. The CD had to be in my computers CD player to even get it. I'd just like to think he was melting into his guitar while doing this.
