I did hear, mostly just about other European countries though, but I was never interested or cared about other cultures, geography etc. I maybe could point out like 5 countries on a world map and that's it. However, that changed when I became an adult and I started learning about all of that on my own. I still don't know a lot of things in that area, but at least I'm trying to learn. In short, I was pretty ignorant when I was younger.

When Garnt talked about his mom not being able to taste the food, I thought he meant that her taste buds had gotten weaker due to old age and that she rarely can taste any kind of food (which, in hindsight, would make her incredibly old), but I'm glad it's because she can't handle that much spiciness. We've now heard that you can train yourself to become tolerant of the spice, so not all is lost.

You probably know this already but just in case for any tourist or foreigners just moved to Thailand, red chili in Thailand usually have high residue pesticide. Our FDA doesn't do anything and it has been this way for decades. So it's actually bettter to avoid spicy food in Thailand unless you cook it yourself. Even so we don't know how much systemic pesticides are inside the chili itself.

It's true. Thai love spicy food but they're not just "spicy spice". It's more like "they taste good but they hurt". Eating spicy food in Thailand isn't just about appreciating the pain. It's building up tolerance to savour the flavour that the spiciness is hiding.

You have to really go looking for proper tasty food these days 😩 My whole family love my cooking, and I dont do much more than put actual herbs, spices, seasonings and alliums (onion, garlic etc) and they all love it 😅

Brazilian food is some of the best food you'll ever eat, without having to rely on unreasonable spice levels that destroy your taste buds.
