Thanks for this - I am very happy to see that you think things are much improved. This will be my first visit to Australia (I live in the US) so I am excited about it, and looking forward to the whole experience!

Hope you have the best time, it's an incredible city and a great place to run a marathon!

Im so glad I found your video in the search! What a great informative video on the many changes and improvements. I'm coming from Chicago to run the marathon! I can't wait to visit Australia for the first time. I have ran Chicago 11 times since 1997 and have seen it evolve into a major and, in my opinion, the best major. I look forward to Sydney becoming the next major! 🏃♀️

Thank you! So exciting that you're making the trip over, running the marathon is a great way to experience Sydney for the first time. I absolutely loved Chicago, you're lucky to have it as your home marathon!

I'm so glad they've cut out barangaroo reserve. Running on that gravel last year 12km was horrible. Hoping for not heat wave this year and always happy to spend less time in Centennial park

Great vid, thanks for the overview. I ran the 2023 route, the OG you say, and agree the loops in Centennial Park were the least enjoyable... oh and Barangaroo where, around 36km, it was very exposed to the sun (I'm not fast so was in full sun). This new course does look better and the forecast is for cooler weather.

What no half marathon? Guess I’ll have to be doing the 10km this year 😢
@owenmcgh3 ай бұрын
I believe the half was canned as the marathon is being moved to an earlier time (the 30°c day last year probably didn't help), and the organisers also obviously want more people to run the full marathon to get to their target of finishers to meet the criteria for the world major qualification. The Victoria Cross metro station is also much closer to North Sydney Oval than the North Sydney train station. The metro line was meant to open this weekend, but there's been some delays due to safety, and no word yet on if it will open before mid-September. I'm sure they'll get the world major qualification and I'm hoping to run the mara in 2025.

Thanks for the info on the metro! It looks like it opened today, so should be good to go for the marathon :)

Thank you! What a great place to do your first one! The vibes are going to be good this year 💪

Glad they have moved the start. Way too many people to try to leave from Milsons Point. It took me 28 minutes to cross the start line. There was good atmosphere in Centennial Park in 23, the heat on that day was so overwhelming it really affected everyone's enjoyment.
@MarathonHarry6 ай бұрын
28 minutes is just crazy! Good to hear about Centennial Park, hopefully that atmosphere just keeps getting better (and the weather is kinder this year…)

I been WAITING for someone to make a video on this! I have told so many running friends I have no idea how Sydney would become a major marathon with all those out and backs as its not what a world major is about.... These changes look SO much better, only a same you can't head up a different road prior to centennial back as those long stretches of seeing running go the other way is brutal! Really stepped up their game with this!
@MarathonHarry8 ай бұрын
Thank you! Totally agree, I’ve had big question marks too, but this is so much better. Would love to have been sat in the room as they came up with this and hear what the other options were!

I'm arriving back in Sydney on my second year working visa in August and will be running this marathon I can't wait 😊 I just watched the London marathon but didn't run it so this will be my first 🥇

Would be cool if they included the path around Barangaroo Reserve. My biggest wish however would be for the race to be moved to a cooler time of the year 10 to 15C would be ideal. 😊

Your video and the comments left by other runners answered a few of my questions including the absent of a half marathon. I think the temperature for September should be up to 22°c. Has it been warm in recent years? I'm from the UK so I'm used to running in cooler temperatures. The 2024 course and everything else mentioned in the video does look like they are making the improvements and I send my best wishes for Sydney to become the next Marathon Major.

So good to hear! Last year was very warm.. September is a little unpredictable in Sydney, but fingers crossed it's good for the runners this year!
@christinebroadhead13262 ай бұрын
@@MarathonHarry Having run the half last year (first time through Centennial Park as I'd only previously done it though Pyrmont) that section of the course was noticeably cooler as soon as we entered the park. Probably a good reason to do the concrete section first.

hai, im from indonesia, im planning to do my first marathon in sydney 2024. i just received email from sydney marathon that says the marathon starting time will be at 6:00 am. is that going to be a problem if i using public transport to reach the starting point? i never been to sydney before
@MarathonHarry8 ай бұрын
Hey! Sydney Marathon are great at working with the city to make sure that there's public transport to the start line. There will be thousands of people in the same position! As long as you're staying reasonably central in Sydney it shouldn't be a problem at all :)

It still won't become a major in 2025, but at least a step in the right direction. Definitely needs to be in August as too hot in September for non-australians.
@MarathonHarry6 ай бұрын
Looking forward to seeing if this is correct next year..!

I also think that late July/early August would work in favour of getting more participants from the Northern Hemisphere because that tends to be when people have longer holidays.
