For those of us who have been suggesting that Syd should chase the 200m or 400m titles, we must understand this. No woman has neither defended nor won the 400mh title more than once, so going after this 400mh is a historic attempt. Winning an Olympic title at the 200m or 400m would diversify her collection, but winning that 400mh title would be unprecedented, which would put her in exclusive territory Once she's comleted this feat., there's nothing left for her to do in the 400mh (unless she wishes to win a 2nd WC title) However she can move on to other title hopes after this Olympics. Kersee loves when his athletes create history - which is why he moved her back to the 400mh. Additionally, if she can take the world record lower and to even dip below that magical 50, then it will all create a bigger storyline for her.
@StewNWT3 ай бұрын
the other thing is that the 400m world record, which is the real goal, is still absurdly inaccessible for a clean athlete. You watch the actual record setting race by Marita Koch and it couldn't be more obvious she was drugged the gills. It only looks more reasonable because the athlete in lane 1 was drugged up as well as kept relatively close to her. She beat the field by 80m. It was insane. 47.60 is inhuman

@@StewNWT agreed. That world record is impossible.
@alansamuel24543 ай бұрын
@@StewNWT You're right, the 400 m is not going anywhere cause it's not clean. Salwa Eid Naser was the first to come close until we found she wasn't clean either. McLaughlin still can medal in the 400 currently with ease, she can hit maybe a career-high of 48.2 or 48.3 if she really tries. But considering the literally endless history she can cement in the 400m hurdles, maybe even going sub-50 (crazy I'll admit) it makes total logical sense to prioritize the hurdles while doing the 200/400/100 hurdles to test out her flat speed. I want her to try do the 400m seriously, she's the 10th ever and can become the 7th best or maybe 6th best ever but that's where it ends and considering that, it's not fair for us to expect her to focus on the 400 so much.
@alansamuel24543 ай бұрын
She can do more than just titles, they really don't mean anything to her in the sense of like effort. I agree Bol is good and all but really speaking there's no one in her level right now. I'm crazy I guess, but I think a sub 50.25 is possible which would really make her one of the most immortal track and field athletes ever. She can get a little higher in the 400m, maybe the 7th best ever but who would want that when they've gotten into the habit of not winning titles but breaking their own WR?

@@QuamfyMarc Bol is a phenomenal runner but the primary differences: 1). this was literally Sydney’s season opener, NOT an Olympic run (where faster times are expected where folks should be running/peaking at their absolute best). 2). Sydney ran that on her own (3 seconds ahead of her competitors) while Bol was being pushed to keep up with Sydney and Dalilah (who both ran sub 52 in comparison to Bol’s 52.03) 3. That’s on top of Sydney not running this event since 2022. 4). Her coach, Bobby Kersee, made it clear that this was just a practice run just to pace, not push. Regardless, even without that context, 52.70 is a top 10 of ALL-time run. It’s a major accomplishment that many female sprinters in this event will never achieve! That deserves praise. It sometimes seems unfortunate that Sydney & Dalilah (and now Bol) have pushed the pace so much that folks (usually new to track) don’t realize how big of a deal it is to run sub-53 in this event.

Just a little "tester" to open for Sydney. She almost looked to be jogging (slight exaggeration). Why would you want to be punishing yourself at this point in time with over 9 weeks (65 days to be exact) until the 400M hurdles first heat in Paris on Sunday August 4. That's when she's aiming to peak of course (and probably set a WR - in the final), not at this stage. How long can an endurance sprinter hold their peak? She injured herself early last year maybe pushing too hard too early. She won't make the same mistake this year.

Dude she wasn’t chopping her steps bc she had more in the tank she was doing to lead with the correct leg to come off the hurdle in a more advantageous position. She did not run 14 steps all race that’s insane. She never had. No one has. You can simply go count. At worlds, she went 14 through 7, then 15 which actually was 2 more on 14 than normal when she was splitting the race. In 2019 syd did all 15 but the last 2. She starting dropping right when she starting splitting 14 and 15. She used to literally run the exact race she just did in 2019 in this race. She wasn’t holding back. You’re speculating at best but not in good faith bc she 16 stepped. Any hurdlers know what that means. Not to mention, in her tune up the year she broke the record June 5 2 years ago she was a full second quicker. Bobby was keeping her consistent as she’s had a lot of turnover work this year and no long hurdles but still she was behind pace of 2022. That’s not a good thing. I was expecting mid 51 or high atleast . It is crazy what she did bc it was almost slower than her 2021 opener when she did this program and nearly lost to dalilah in Tokyo. She’ll need to drop A lot of time at trials which she’s capable of but I worry about her legs at that point if she can’t hold 15 steps. They changed her steps bc she’s not in the shape she was the year she set the record and was 14 at the start. I tried to tell you she wasn’t running a world record lol obviously that’s not bob’s aim for her right now. Look honestly I don’t like the man but I know he atleast understands how to taper his athletes. I disagree syd should race in Europe more as others suggest. I actually agree with Bobby there but she needs to race a bit more. She’s very very young. And she looked very rusty in this race. You failed to mention last hurdle was 16 steps. If she had more, she wouldn’t need 15. Bobby isn’t going to tell you or anyone the whole story but from my experience hurdlers are NOT messing with step counts 2-3 meets out from the gd Olympics unless for good reason. I think he wanted to see how she looked leading with the same leg while ensuring she wouldn’t be mentally defeated going 14 steps forcing her to go at rapid pace while switching lead legs. The worry is Femke Bol has always does constant 15. No 16 no 14. That’s the advantage Syd has over her. If bol gets a 14 step her time will drop like syds. And if Syd can’t do 14 anymore I’d be a bit surprised and this is the issue not racing her enough we can only speculate. But we don’t know what we don’t know. She might feel great behind closed doors but fact remains, she needed 16 in the final few when normally she doesn’t. It’s a tune up I get that but 16 steps is kinda shocking. She would be in shape you’d think with trials weeks away. While no record I expected 14 for 5, 15 for 5. I’m not saying Bol can’t challenge with 15steps. She can without dropping. Bershawn used to 15 step in the lands of 13 stepping giant men going over 3 foot tall hurdles. Women’s hurdles are only 2.5 feet and Bol is very tall so 14 steps if she brings it to Paris will be SPICY. I think this race will be one of the best of the entire event. I don’t anticipate any female going sub 50 anytime soon but I think 1-2 challengers to syd go sub 51 or near it.

Bol is a fierce competitor. She is a joy to watch. I wish her and her fans luck. If all goes according to talent and preparation she should be proud of her silver. I and the world, except Bol die hard fans, would be shocked if Bol beat Syd when both are healthy. If you had to bet your life, who would you pick? Different than who you want. Just saying. Thanks for the response.

Sydney going to get her 50.68 at the Olympics for new WR
@_MicZ_3 ай бұрын
2:27 Yep, "some" were calling for a WR ... certainly not you 10 days ago 🙂 It's a good start of her season, they played it safe with the 15 stride pattern (Kersee explicitly said that in his interview) and Sydney is definitely gonna improve from here on out. I know this is a KZbin channel that like to use superlatives, but this time is not "crazy" (certainly not for Sydney), setting the world lead is not "crazy" when the lead was 53.71 and winning by 3 seconds is not "crazy" when the line up wasn't made up of elite hurdlers ...
@oilguy7773 ай бұрын
Seriously. This channel is now like shopping at a discount store. Sure there are some worthy videos put out but one must click through 10 to find one whose content matches the superlative ridden click bait titles. If this is the title for this race - what should be the title for Chebet’s WR? 🦗
