I was on the water for this - Three grand ($6K inflation-adjusted) for two tickets (with some chick I don't even remember the name of) by far the most expensive event I've ever been to. Old crowed boat, bad champagne, cold canapes and worth every-fucking-cent! Most epic night of my life. This song takes me me back there. OMG, the feelings, standing on the precipice of the future, the apprehension of Y2K, the hope of the new millennium, this incredible musical piece leading to the final seconds of a thousand years, 2 million people ecstatic people lining the harbor shore screaming the numbers down, the never-again-equaled fireworks lighting the entire sky horizon to horizon and then diming to reveal a blazing message "Eternity" shining across the bridge. I still get chills and feel fortunate to have been alive at just the right moment to be there. Thanks for the memories.

I remember watching this live on TV back in 1999, absolutely mesmerized by the magnificently intricate floats on the harbour timed *perfectly* to The Ghost of Time. I knew that I was watching something incredible, a "never to be seen again" performance of all the best things about our great city. I bought the CD a week later and it's one of my cherished. Thank you so much for this special upload, big thanks to Iva Davies, IceHouse, Richard Tognetti, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Taikoz & Guy Pratt

Absolutely extraordinary piece of art. As a few have said here, this was an amazing night and the way this particular classic built up before Iva even stated to sing was mesmerising. I remember being at a friends place and watching it on a big screen. We were all saying 'what is this' as we couldn't quite pick it and it had that familiarity about it. Then, he started to sing and wow, what an epic performance. Thanks for posting.

I’ve only found it this year after looking for it for 23 years - nothing matches it - to this day.

I was watching CNN's coverage of Y2K here in the USA while having breakfast and seeing a clip of this performance(10:13) and was floored by what little I saw. A few day's later, I asked who this was on a newsgroup and got the name of the performer. A week after that, I was at a music store and found the CD and snatched it up before the manager was going to ship it back. I always wanted to see the whole thing. Thank you for posting this.

+airdriver have a look at my playlists. Ignore the others (my 9 yr old has taken over my acct, hence the LPS pic lol) but click on "Classics". You'll see the original 80's clip and some other Icehouse classics, plus a couple of live recent performances of Great Southern Land. They are rock royalty here, Iva Davies sounds the same now as he did 30 yrs ago & I'd say 90% of Aus want & see this as our proper national anthem. If you love it, you'll love the live performances - whole band & they still tour thankfully :-)

SAME! CNN's 24 hours of New Years coverage that year was probably the best thing they've ever done. Wish i could find the full 24 hours to view again.

Du coup, dans les années suivantes, j'ai acheté quatre 33tours: Primitive Men Sidewalk Measure for Measure Man of colours Ensuite, j'ai oublié le groupe. -The Berlin Tapes -The Ghost Of Time Et La version extra longue de"Great Southern Land" avec la participation des Aborigènes. QUEL PIED ! SENSATION INIMAGINABLE ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
