The organist is Robert Ampt on a Move Records CD titled Centenary Plus.

what a mighty organ-prospect.....wonderful sound,,,,,

I think this record is taken from the cd «Centenary Plus», played by Sydney city organist Robert Ampt and recorded in 1993 (it's the opening piece). It's still present in Move Records catalogue.

I have been there and listened to this organ since I was a child. I would have liked to see your handwork and your footwork. Possible? Wonderful organ and well played! This is a very quiet piece so far, but it's lovely.......................................NOW I have to change that........................the finale is brilliant and so brilliantly played and uplifting. The music is from a CD released in the early 90's by ABC Classics, of renowned organist David Drury playing the Sydney Town Hall Organ. The organ is by Hill and Son and made in 1886-89. It has 5 manuals. All pictures are of the Sydney Town Hall Organ. Also has the famous 64 foot Contra Trombone pedal stop!!

The organ has 5 manuals, about 126 stops, over 9,000 pipes, it has a fully working 64 foot stop. Built by Hill, no money was spared, it is Hill's greatest organ, and the greatest English Romantic organ in the world.

This organ is one of only two which possess a naturally aspirated (wind based) 64 foot stop. The other is the Midmer-Losh instrument in Atlantic City (N.J.)'s Boardwalk Hall.

This is still, as far as I know, the largest organ in the southern hemisphere.

Town Hall organs and Cathedral organs are of necessity significantly different in the way they're voiced for the acoustics and expected use in which they're placed. Town Halls typically don't have the ringing acoustics of great cavernous stone-lined cathedrals. If the organist is Robert Ampt, the organ's curator, no one knows the instrument better than he.

Magnificent!! Did Theodopoulos actually play it !! And is it the above organ ?? It is rather beautiful. Is this the keyboard of the Sydney Town Hall Organ (viz 4 manuals).? cazzie511

THEODOPOULOS is a brilliant organist and he brings out the best in the Sydney Town Hall organ. Who are you, please? cazzie511.

Magnificent organ but the playing speed is a bit ponderous. If you look for Liverpool Cathedral Organ.Ian Tracey Plays G.F Handel you will find a better speed, even in the huge acoustic of that cathedral but there again Ian Tracey is a genius in my opinion.

To Matthew B below, Robert Ampt is the equal of Ian Tracey, just not so well known. I have Prof Tracey's DVD with the same piece on it, and I like each interpretation equally. Difference is what makes music so fascinating. Col, NZ.

nice organ but the tempo is very pedestrian which spoils the performance for me.
