Newtown is a fantastic station for trainspotting. clear view to 5 (?) lines worth of trains, some of which stop and some don't, running completely contrasting services (all stops to homebush vs express 1-stop to katoomba and bathurst). I think you see every model along this inner west rail corridor, from 40yo v-sets, explorer and xpt to brand new series 2s. Very cool spot :D

I know they rebuilt Newtown 'recently' but it's quite small and sometimes can't handle peak. Like only two platforms on an island platform? Other stations even have more even if they don't use it.

I actually got lost at that station so basically I was meant to get off a summer hill but I missed it. So then I got on a train to go back but that train didn’t stop at that station so I ended up at Newtown.
