This was my grandma's favorite plant She had two of them on her apartment, which she kept lush and beautiful until she had to go to a home, ten years ago Those two plants basically died when she passed away, a year ago (Oct 11), but now they've come back I'm trying to learn to take better care of them, I just bought a third one two days ago, that I'll be placing on her grave next week, on the anniversary of her passing. Thanks for the video

Oxalis is also my very favorite. You are describing a very lovely gesture for your grandmother. I would love to think someone might place an oxalis on my grave. Do you intend to plant rhizomes in the ground? I think this would be the best way. I hope they’re doing well for you. I grab them at St. Patrick’s Day time, the only time I can get them in the US. ❤️🇺🇸

@@Bronte866 Unfortunately I've been SWAMPED with work these past weeks (trying to start a new business), couldn't make it to Mother's Day to visit her and check on the flowers 😕 last I did (some 3 months ago) the plant had way too much moisture and the leaves were turning green, from all the rain out there in the open (I understand it is an indoor plant) I wish it wasn't so but things get obnoxiously in the way sometimes, hopefully I'll be able to make it soon, thank you for the kind words 😊

@@AvyScottandFlower I dunno how things are going, but Oxalis actually really likes being outdoors (except in the cold). If you want to keep oxalis successfully by your grandmother's grave, give it part shade & rain coverage, perhaps a small sail if there aren't any shrubs or trees to shade it. Don't leave her out if it's going to be cold, she may not make it through a cold winter. Its worth mentioning, though, I have had Oxalis propagate new corms from fallen stalks & overwinter outside (but that's very atypical). You can easily keep oxalis out for your grandmother with these amendments. They don't need frequent watering, their corms actually store water & energy. If they go through a drought, the foliage will die back, but she springs back pretty fast from completely bare corms. Just don't give up on her, she is able to weather pretty much any storm with you. Good luck, I hope things work out, it's a lovely idea.

@@rickfromhell Thanks much for the recommendations!! I do water them much more frequently now but with small amounts of water; I was pouring way too much water on them (where the stems would burst out with water), but also too infrequently, so the plants would also dry up. As per the one I planted by my grandma's tombstone, it died, but then it revived indeed! It's exposed to the harsh elements outside in an open field graveyard, but it has held on, although the rains and open field conditions turn the leaves kind of green. I was so moved, when I saw the plant surviving, a few months ago. I think Oxalis was my grandma's favorite because I may have gifted one to her, when I was just a kid (I think I maybe bought it by a botanical garden). My memory is blurry but I think that may have been the reason why (she was always a plant person). I'm planning to go to the place were I bought the one I took to the graveyard, and learn about and buy proper supplements for it, next (maybe I'll do it next month, which is/was my grandma's birthday).

My mom got her Oxalis a month before I was born, and it's still going strong!! For my birthday she propagated it and gave me my own. I learned how to take care of plants growing up because of my mom's plants and particularly her Oxalis; it feels good to be able to add another gorgeous plant to my collection. Oxalis honestly are surprisingly hardy plants albeit dramatic, my mom has dropped them countless times and left them outside too long in the heat and they're still kicking two decades later.

My oxalis is slowly going into dormancy. Every year at this time I expect it. Our Canadian fall less light and colder temps put her to sleep. She sleeps in a dark cool basement until January when I bring her out give her a wee drink of water and wait for growth. Every year she gets bigger and bigger. About 5 years now. Leaf’s out in time for St. Paddy’s Day. ☘️

I live in Southern California. My oxalis does not tolerate our very hot summers well. I just brought mine out of it’s brown paper bag, (in October) hoping it will grow during our cooler seasonal weather. Not sure if it will work, but I’m trying.

I bought some of this and my husband threw it in a multi plant pot outside and it's doing OK in the shade. I wonder if it's able to be like an office plant? I would love to take like an 8in pot of this to work for my desk but I worry that it would just go dormant without actual sunshine. Other plants at work are doing well in my dept with no windows. Pretty sure there's some MIL tongue. Anyone know what it would do in an office w/o actual sunlight?

I had to pause the video at 8:13 to THANK you for showing how YOU tell if the plant is thirsty. How you have moved it around your home. I don’t comprehend nor have I had luck when people say when the top inch of soil is dry and then HOW much water to use, people are vague, so THANK you. I adore this plant, the colors the way the leaves change through the day, the butterfly shape, my aunt has one and ingot my first one yesterday, so I am so happy to have found your page. Excited to look through it. Really appreciate the information and your time producing it for us. 🙋🏾❤️new subscriber . I feel more confident now.

I acquired some of this plant corns from my mom’s garden before she passed. Since I gotten it I have planted outside which got pretty lushy (just not as much as yours) outdoor. But in the winter it gets so cold I usually bring it indoor but due to the lack of light it has very small leaves. I probably should put it in direct light so it could get bigger. Im just glad that I gotten this plant because I love the color purple and its pretty lavender color flowers that it gives and when it reminds me of my mom whose in heaven.

I bought an oxalis about a year and a half ago. Placed in the garden (in the UK), when it started dying back last autumn, I dug it up and split it into three plants. On mine, below the corms it had very thick (1 cm x 6-7cm) white bulbous roots. Just dug it up again and split it, planting some up for in home. That was two weeks ago happy to say it’s starting to leaf up really well looking forward to a good display Love your videos, you’ve really inspired me with moss poles. Thank you🌱💕

I had two small {4 inch pots} oxalis that I'd purchased in the spring {New Jersey, East Coast USA} and had them outdoors in the summer, paying very little attention to them. I was debating if I should bother bringing them indoors for the winter. Then I saw your beauty! I decided to put the two plants into one pot and, to my delight, today the plant is very happy and has grown and flowered quite a bit. This clip was most helpful and informative, like always. Thank you!

I have never had any of my oxalis go into a dormant state in 45 yrs. First time I have heard the rhizomes called “corns.” They are my very favorite plant. I give the same care to all varieties/colors & use only clay pots providing lots of breathability as they would have outside. In the past I did overwater them once & this produced fungus on the leaves - very bad. Now I let them dry out but I water immediately after that or it will end them. A tricky balance. fertilize 2 or 3X a yr with plant spikes.

My aunt just recently gave me an oxalis. She was hesitant to give me some because the stems are too thin and it might not survive the 14 hrs travel time by ship whe i go back home. But she still gave me some because she saw how i just fell in love with it. As soon as i arrived, i checked the plant and true enough it looked so sad i thought it will die in a few days. I planted it in a small pot. Some of the leaves, flowers and stems dried out. And the leaves are folded. Now i'm left with only 7 leaves. Today is the 7th day since i arrived home and i noticed 6 of the leaves opened up. So i guess it looks promising that it survived. I hope it will thrive amd grow as lush as yours. Thank you for the video. By the way i'm from the Philippines. Thank you again for your video.

I love the purple color of this oxalis! It's one of my favorites! I also started with just 1 or 2 corms and mine has flourished. I definitely found it to be a thirsty plant. I have to water it more than most of my other types. Since I live in Washington state (USA), I keep mine under LED light to keep it growing year round. I think mine is ready for a re-pot too. Here is a rule that I have learned when it comes to fertilizer, use half of the recommended amount of the fertilizer but apply it twice as often this will give your plants a more even dose over time, another way to look at is it smoothes out the peaks and valleys of larger doses with more infrequent applications. It really is a game changer. Thanks for the video I always learn something.

One of my favourite plants, beautiful colour and form. Mine (UK) goes semi-dormant in winter, doesn't completely die back but it does reduce down to about 10-15% of it's full bloom. I water mine when it starts to droop (usually once a week(ish) in summer, down to once a fortnight(ish) in winter), because if you over water it goes dormant. If you do overwater, let it dry out completely then water and it should come back.

Best thing to do is to split it up into individual bulbs - dig it up, you'll find that the leaves only grow from each end of the corm. The bulbits in between don't do anything unless you pull them apart. If you separate them you'll have a load of new growth.

@@sydneyplantguy Yeah, you’re scaring me when you say that all started w/ 1. I bought the 10 pack of corms off amz. My plant is still small. I certainly shocked it though & repotted, prior to watching this, & a lot of tiny roots were pulled off. Oops! I planted anyway & was able to keep about 6 w/ roots.

I've got one that looks like yours it's over 25 years old and it's only died back once about 12 years ago , I have always keep it inside near a window .Sorry to say I have not repottied for years but it seems quite happy and I'm afraid of upsetting it .

I already own 1 sad oxalis outside - maxes out at 3-4 stems, it's been 2 years. My cat destroyed another 2. A possum killed my 4th. Damn your video and sexy purple jumbo plant...cos now I've gone and bought another oxalis online thinking "maybe this one will love me!"

This is my goal. I was gifted one and then it died off. I kept it because a small one started to pop through. 😂😂 it only has 4 "stocks" atm but I'm hoping it will do soo much better this time around.

I just brought mine home never knowing I needed one until I saw yours, I treated it right away and it’s all folded lol not happy!! I hope it transitions ok, but we’ll see! It looks like it’s been at the nursery for a long time, needs to be repotted I think, but we’re going into fall here in Canada so I think I’ll leave it till next year.

1st Your Plant Is Beautifully 💜 Thank You So Much For This Video! When I got mine last year, it was full & beautiful. Until now, I didn’t know that they went through a dormant period, so I watered mine all winter, resulting in only a few blooms remaining. I hope that I didn’t ruin it. Would you please advise me how to proceed?

I have never been able to grow one of these and I am really good with plants! So thank you for your tips; honestly the only thing I hadn't been doing was giving it food... I've tried it and all kinds of different light, so next one I get I will give it food! We'll see how it goes. Love all your plants! Could you please do a tutorial on how to make moss poles? The kind that you use are not available in the US- at least in Denver Colorado!🌿
